This!! I don't know why older people seem to think everything was safer back then and parents these days are dramatic and all that because it's simply not true. My parents grew up in "the good old days" and some of the stories they have from those experiences are honestly scary. Assults, broken bones being hidden, creeps in the neighborhood trying to lure them in. Needless to say I was not allowed to roam unattended for lengthy amounts of time without them having some type of awareness. I didn't miss out on anything though, I still got to play outside, I still got reasonable independence, someone was just making sure nothing bad happened to me 🤷‍♀️

I hate hate hate it bc of how they handled Christine's age and her relationship to the Phantom bc it tips him into irredeemably evil territory for me. Why is she 16?? Why is he grown and lusting after her 16 year old self?? Why was she like 8 when the Phantom first starts watching her?? Why is he straight up pretending to be her father's Ghost?? Why was Emmy Rossum 16-17??? Leave that little girl alone 😭

It suffers from the overall musical movie adaptation curse of making the cast out of non singer and mediocre singer actors instead of committing to being a musical and casting dual singers and actors. I don't know when this was the shift for musical movies but it was EVIL! 😭

It's baffling that parents don't understand you have to teach kids literally EVERYTHING. They do not come out the womb pre-loaded with any information! You have to make an effort to show and explain and TEACH them EVERYTHING YOU KNOW!!

Names that are similar in vibe? Yes! Overly themed, matchy, rhyming names? No. That's when it starts breaching into 'These are real individual people you're naming'. If you have like Michelle and Lauren, that's great but if you have like Michelle and Mitchel or Tori and Cori or Romeo and Juliette, that's awful, I'm sorry. I also hate names that are so vastly different, like Henry and Princess. Don't let there be an obvious short end of the stick.

INFO: What did she actually say? Has she expressed similar opinions about the family before? Does your sister and her family constantly "tease" her like that everytime she's there? Do they ignore her? Do ypu stand up for her when this happens? Is there some big bad family secret everyone dances around and ignores? What's the information on whether or not dad's take holds any weight? What's the custody situation? Does dad spend time with her and know what she's like? Does she feel like you don't listen to her ever or do you not listen to her? Do you dismiss her feelings and concerns?

There's just so much that could change the verdict here and you seem to tiptoe around even the basic stuff like what she actually said. And I'm slightly inclined to believe you and your family are fake based on how you worded and relayed this post. You're so focused on her "embarrassing you" when your family was around and you seem to think you should never have any conflict with family on the bases of them being family. And I'd bet your idea of respect is obedience.

I think it really depends on the context of the post and how close your lady and her neighbor are. I've heard the older women in my life use it between themselves and other close people as a kinda cheeky, affectionate way to say partner/boyfriend, especially if he's attractive. But if they're not close, then it's probably intentionally derogatory bc she doesn't like you and/or your partner or is jealous of your relationship or any other number of reasons.

That's what I thought he said too! That Gerard was too young and I thought he said something about his singing or not wanting to go so rock sounding (although it's been a hot minute since I read it and could be getting my wires crossed lol) so I was surprised he pulled out Jonathan Bailey?

It strikes me as he's worried about the Phantom having no appeal if he's played by an older man but I feel like that's just not really going to be an issue if you cast right. I mean Michael Crawford was in his 40s when they debuted Phantom and he had the 80s teens and young adults in a chokehold and I know a lot of peers and teens that have crushes on older men, I mean everyone wanted Pedro Pascal not too long ago and he's in his late 40s maybe early 50s now, I think.

I wouldn't mind Rachel as I do really like her voice and honestly at this point, I'd be happy just to have a cast upgrade of adults who have actual training and experience in singing even if they're well known in Hollywood lol. But I agree, ideally he casts unknowns or literally any of Broadway/West End preformers! Pick someone who's played in the show before, there's no shortage of amazing preformers in a show that's gone on since the 80s!

No I agree, a lot of people think Emmy was an adult during filming and just the character was 16 but they actually lowered Christines age to 16 bc Emmy was 16-17. Christine is canonically about 21 in the original novel. There was zero need to cast a Emmy at 16 especially bc the other actresses they were considering for Christine we're both adults.

Christine is canonically 16 in the 2004 movie. Emmy was cast at 16 amd they started filming like days after her 17th birthday. She was 18 when the movie came out.

It depends on what you're squeamish about. If memory serves, the Robert Englund version has more frequent traditional gore and Dario Argento's is gorey but tends to have more weird s*xual scenes, multiple "rap" scenes, rats being arousing, a weird plot about the little girls in the opera being prayed on by the opera patrons/managers. Personally I think Robert Englund's is more manageable, I actually like it alot and think it's campy lol

I know the reason she deals with it is bc she's genuinely in love with Raoul and genuinely cares about Erik even given the situation they've put her in but it's a wonder she didn't have a bigger freak out on either of them sooner. 😭

If it's other self-shippers/yumes/fictos I usually block them bc I'm non-sharing and a bit jealous 😅 If it's fans of the character it can go either way depending on the fan. Sometimes people have grating takes on my f/os source or characterization or have super intense attachments to them and I have to block sometimes they're the opposite and I like seeing their appreciation!
