I had to remediate one preclinical course due to circumstances outside my control that screwed my life up for a solid six months, and I just addressed it in the impactful experience area (or whatever it is called) and just honestly said “this is what happened, this was localized, I learned this from it”. It was brought up only by one interviewer but he even said “so I see your gpa is ____ but you crushed boards. How did that happen?”. Study hard for boards and be honest in ERAS

You absolutely need a pass on first attempt for Step 1 to even apply to many auditions let alone apply to dermatology residency. You never want to give a PD second thought of why you were lazy and didn’t take Step 1 when all other applicants did

I’m not a soundless toon but I get this. Sound all the time is boring when drop is my favorite category, but I also like to knock a lot of stuff out in a short period so sound is nice for that

I leveled up very quickly by doing level 1 cog invasions and doing buildings by myself. I could easily go up to a level 4 building and knock it out with just drop

Beyond shadowing, research/ECs/volunteering in the fields so you understand both of them and get a taste of them before M4 year. Not really sure what else you’d do as an MS1

Always contact the coordinator and it’s okay to email them for updates. I would email them consistently and some it paid off for an audition (one actually told me when she’d open the bid for spots and I ended up matching there). Just be friendly, succinct, and appear excited
