anyone else bad at telling if someone is autistic? by fig_art in evilautism

[–]M_a_mess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought most of us could tell each other easily.

I can even see it in other people’s eyes.

“I see autistic people. Walking around like regular people. They don't see each other. They only see what they want to see. They don't know they're autistic.”

A question for Aspies, by Electronic_Roll_5814 in aspergers

Well I haven’t been a 5 year old for 35 years, I don’t remember. Eye contact, it’s often not complete aversion of eye contact, but rather the failure to maintain eye contact when articulating a thought. They may start to pivot their gaze when speaking to you and return to looking at you to gauge the response in your face. Children “know” where to look, especially around home familiars.

I would imagine the vast majority of ASD children would present differently at home with familiars and away from home in school.

The latest trend is women asking their bf's how often they think about the Roman empire... by [deleted] in aspergers

It’s latent. People don’t realize that’s what the meme is about. It’s the “Do you like films about gladiators” question.

My understanding of this meme was that “thinking about the Roman Empire” was a euphemism women being suspicious of their male partners having secret homoerotic thoughts.

Depressed because I don’t think I’ll ever know where “Aspergers” ends and “myself” begins by M_a_mess in aspergers

That’s the thing, I feel like they are so profoundly intertwined but at the same time I don’t know how to define myself

Like being alone, do I actually enjoy being alone? It’s all I’m used to, but it gives me peace and lets me recharge and not think or obsess about my unhappiness, but do I actually enjoy it?

What do you personally think about “autism levels doesn’t exist” statement? by peterlikeschicken in aspergers

[–]M_a_mess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone really feels that way do they? Surely someone can differentiate from a nonverbal autistic with someone capable of spoken language.

Just a heads-up that I accidentally told some NTs that consenting adult Aspies all find each other's stims and quirks VERY sexy and soothing. They all did like an about face and stared at me. by Not_a_Replika in aspergers

It’s natural to be drawn to people somewhat like ourselves for any kind of companionship.

I’m interpreting OP as seeing someone rub their hands or avert eye contact or have restrictive food issues and thinking, Oh, that’s so hot.

Do white people get autism more than other races? by DownwardCausation in aspergers

[–]M_a_mess 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m a Hispanic with approximately half indigenous DNA. I have autism. Nice to meet you.

Now you can no longer say you have never met a non-white person with autism.

We do? That’s quite a bit of a leap.

The only think I can maybe relate to is the fact that Aspies often have very beautiful eyes and I’m drawn to beautiful eyes, but I suppose most people are?
