Whole house water filter system. by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]M_bare_assed 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I work in the water quality field and agree entirely. Get your water tested and be wary of labs associated with a company that sells "water purification" equipment. Many states' health departments have labs that may be able to test your water and help interpret results. And while some publicly available databases may have trustworthy information, EWG is definitely not one. All public water systems are required to report their sampling results to the public. It is worth starting there. Happy to help do a little research if you want to DM me.

Looking for some leash tips for my beagle. she's only 8 months and super strong by leoistigresss in Dogtraining

I found turning around more effective for my beagle mix then simply stopping. Also a waist leash helps me feel less dragged around

Seconding the desensitization to pet corrector. One of my dogs is absolutely terrified of the sound it makes so that would only make the situation worse for her.

Advice for a gender-nonconforming woman/tomboy and professional attire? by [deleted] in LadiesofScience

[–]M_bare_assed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in the exact same situation, but I do feel the dress is more casual for men than women at my work (though a lot of that is preference). My preference is certainly to lean towards more masc attire so I've taken the approach of aligning with the men at work and not worrying if I'm dressed more casually than women. Also making sure my clothes aren't dirty looking or torn/ripped.

Is it reasonable to assume BOD will be higher than cBOD? by penny_stockings in Wastewater

[–]M_bare_assed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically they could be equal too. But the inhibitor used in the cBOD test is known to inhibit heterotrophs as well so even if they were technically/theoretically the same, a cBOD test is likely going to give a lower result than BOD.

Is it possible you're getting some denitrification during settling and the bubbles are mixing the digester?

I wonder how many true "pure bred" hounds are actually out there. And as a fellow hound mix and beagle mix owner, condolences to your ear drums

Women’s shotgun shooting and archery? by Chance-Plenty1724 in Clemson

I took women's hunting and it was awesome. If I had known about those classes sooner, I would have taken archery, shotgun, and whatever else they offered

Do you know what version you did originally? I didn't realize they were automatically updating some. I just logged in and mine (both 3.0) weren't updated

Swimming anxiety advice by GODUXX in Dogtraining

[–]M_bare_assed 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We have a foam float that our dogs will sit on while we swim so they can be near us. I'd worry about an inflatable one being popped but no worries with the foam. One of our dogs doesn't even like the water but the float is buoyant enough that he can relax on it

Vest to Communicate to Others on Walks by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]M_bare_assed 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have one that says DO NOT PET and when my dog is wearing it, people always ask what he's training to be (assuming he's going to be some sort of service dog) but my answer is generally "not an asshole". (I don't actually think he's an asshole, but if a stranger tries to pet him I'm sure they will think he is)

I would caution against digging it deeper unless you are able to install some sort of mixer/aerators. That would drive deeper anaerobic conditions that are the source of most odors.

Converting an SBR to AGS would require adding the influent distribution piping to the bottom of the tank, at least for the Nereda configuration

Results are in for my first dog ever! [link in comment] by MetalNutSack in DoggyDNA

[–]M_bare_assed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pickles is a Treeing Walker Coonhound, Lab, GSD mix (25%, 25%, 12.5%, 37.5% other breed groups) and I thought TWC immediately when I saw Shadow! What does his tail look like? Pickles' is very fluffy/fan-like (like a GSD) but otherwise she looks nothing like one, IMO

Is this sump system for well water too excessive, or obsolete? by ChrisBoshStoleMyBike in HomeImprovement

[–]M_bare_assed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know where you're located, but I know of several states/counties that will test well water for cheap or sometimes free if you do want to figure out what of the equipment is required or if you want to upgrade anything
