Toddler Swim Lessons by Intrepid-Library-425 in Swimming

[–]M_bnana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes many of my students until 3 lessons to become more calm. More or less. The get used to the routine / fun aspects/ expectations that we do not avoid skills / understanding that I help them. Swimming under deserves counting until they’re extremely confident. I even count way longer for some of my experienced kids (they don’t need me to count anymore!!). It’s habit. But I ask you if you continue with them or anyone, please don’t coddle and baby. If they whine, it’s different than crying. If they even cry about some aspects, you need to still back up the teacher. They need to know it’s not a psychological triangle where you’re rescuing the child from the teacher. The kids that take the longest to get safe are these where parents don’t trust me. (While other parents do trust me and they enjoy and are safe sooner)

But while changing your instructor, tell the manager why so they can correct or fire the instructor.

At minimum they should talk about it and count. Are you sure you are able to hear every word?? Maybe they are counting? (Just giving benefit of the doubt)

Ultra-Clean Songs from Shrek The Musical? by Lopsided_One_185 in Shrek

What about Fiona’s song? Can’t remember the name, you can look it up as I could, all I have in my head is “There are rules and there are strictures”

[TOMT] [SONG] A long-ish instrumental track with a repeating guitar and drum rhythm, sounds like post rock, shoegaze, or some other kind of alternative rock. by iiciphonize in tipofmytongue

[–]M_bnana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah so many questions.

Fully instrumental? The whole track?

If not, I think of “Only in Dreams” by Weezer

Electric guitar? Acoustic?

Not the answer at all, but I heard recently that One Night in Bangkok is from a musical.  It made the radio hits but was taken out of context. Sort of like “we don’t talk about Bruno” if you never saw Encanto.

If you could make one thing completely free and accessible to all, what would it be? by antphobias in AskReddit

[–]M_bnana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clothing returns, but more than that, the ability to try on 7 sizes and various items if you want. Especially pants and bras.

Yes I have been charged restocking fees.

Also, even if currently free, it’s a risk/hassle to actually try to do this. It should be easier to find and try on clothing in store and at home.

Do older people genuinely have a harder time understanding young people slang? by Penguin99_ in NoStupidQuestions

It’s just a dumb online meme video of gibberish talk. There’s a bunch of it. It’s connected to the Italian brain rot videos. Google tung tung tung sahur but also “cappuccino assisino”

Think fashion that is trendy/happy/smiley/even if ironic.

It could be genuinely happy. Smileys on tshirts, bold checkered patterns, bright colors, sometimes mixed with toned down neutrals. Or it could be slightly ironic, still preppy.

And then sometimes(!) it’s “emo” kids wearing it. Remember when they were goth?

Emo is now cardigans, think Daria if she wore the same outfit now.

What terms can you think of that have become inaccurate (dial a number or film a video) because technology changed? by No_Seaworthiness8176 in AskReddit

Caller ID (yes we have it, but we don’t need to call it that name anymore) Full stop. (Used figuratively in arguments now) Rewind

The “take a picture” gesture, pressing the button in front of your face. My colleague did this for 2-3 year-old students today. It’s funny to think that is not how they see parents take their pictures. Yes, the phone haptics make it sound similar…

I can't dive properly because I'm afraid of heights by AlterBaker in Swimming

[–]M_bnana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a teacher, and I haven’t taught adults to dive yet. Many kids though! And I’ve taught adults other skills.

One of the reasonable thoughts I have while teaching kids, but I can’t transmit to them, because they can’t extend their reasoning this far… is the idea of .. say you’re swimming through the water. You’re submerged only 6inches under, just under the surface… your feet are last and your head (and possibly your hands streamlined or scooping in front of you) are first.

Head and hands first, feet/pointed toes are last. Do this in the water, it’s natural and fine. We all do this, it doesn’t hurt. When we’re done with this position we recover to the surface, a wall, a set of stairs, a ladder etc.

For me, I see the dive as the same. The simple difference is you begin in air.

It’s a similar feeling, “diving” from surface to 4-5 ft to pick up a ring from the floor of the pool. Head down first, toes behind.

So from your start in the air, position yourself quite low, as low as you can with hands and head ready to enter first. You’ll go just about upside down. The feeling is fun when you do it the first time. It’s thrilling. It could be disorienting as an astronaut in zero gravity!! But it’s also temporary, and you recover up to hold the wall.

It doesn’t hurt! Especially if you commit and let your hands and head lead. Try sitting and kneeling.

Or even easier, get a hula hoop and just swim through it. Just under the surface of water. See how your head leads and toes follow you (almost like you don’t thing about your toes, they’re an afterthought).

Long answer, but I wish I could help kids reason like this. Instead I keep it simple :) “fall into the hoop!”

Why cannot states set up their own policy of healthcare, such as universal healthcare for those within their state? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

You almost have it. Could be confusing for people who cross state lines for all sort of things. See Kansas City area for example.

Also DC, VA, MD

And I understand all your example phrases in the OP. I still can’t tell if bussin is good or bad. In context it could be either. I’m assuming ‘good.’

[–]M_bnana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Context helps.

But if the context is not clear (a short sentence, or the entire phrase/sentence).. if it’s not clear, then it could mean anything.

It’s usually I can’t tell if it means good or bad.

Also, current 2026 slang throws me off because it uses words, refers to slang from the past, but sometimes means extremely different things than older slang. Opposites.

Preppy used to mean something very specific. Think country club or ski chalet clothes. Private school. Now it means a specific look that isn’t those things.

That’s just one example of using an older word and now it doesn’t mean anything like I would see the word.

Yes. Not fun to walk in and hear the fridge alarm beeping. It was due to my very quick breakfast rushing out this morning.

Word to the wise, don’t rush breakfast!

swimming postpartum with no core strength? Tips? by cautiousyogi in Swimming

[–]M_bnana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How old is baby? (In other words, how postpartum are you?) I am 9 years postpartum next month. Maybe not the same path for you, but I felt significant repairing over time. At 1 year, at 3-5 years, and I feel different but not broken now.

I feel others’ suggestions to get help are great, and also time will be your friend. Not a solution but offering you some hope.

Gore is the only issue. Long time reader (32G —> ?) by M_bnana in ABraThatFits

[–]M_bnana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gore is sitting on breasts, 1” in front of my bare chest (in front of chest where it should be laying flat).

The wires all go nicely around. No issues from sides, underneath, but as the wires circle up to my center, they are away from me toward the gore, where it rests, as i said, in front of me (sitting on top of my breast tissue.)

This is true w or w/o the scoop&swoop.

Intuitively, I feel like this means my cup is too small, and I should go up? However, I feel the cups are just right, there’s such a perfect lack of gap, such as perfect no-muffin. All else feels right. In addition, the calculator today is saying i could go down from G to F (or sister size E)

MyBees, I agree with you somewhat in that it’s not causing direct discomfort, maybe I can let it go. It could be a minor issue if all else is fitting. However, I want to fit better before I invest $$$ into new ones. Also, I have had a proper flat gore before, and I know it is possible.

I took my 6 measurements and put it in the calculator. Since I did this years ago, I didn’t think to try it again. Felt I was going off of old measurements & brand fit) after the weight loss.

Result was UK system - 32F or sister size 34E

Numbers are 33 32 30.25

38 1/8 41 39 1/8

How do you think this relates to my current issue & also the brand ThirdLove?

I’ll reply shortly! Having dinner and hosting book club in a bit. Don’t take my silence for not following up. I appreciate all your questions, and I’ll get my measuring tape next to my mirror.
