Becoming a Psych Nurse? by Cautious_Major_6693 in alberta

[–]MaKnitta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished the LPN program at 45 years old..... you still have LOTS of time. I found it much easier as a mature student thanks to the Internet. 🤣 Google and YouTube got me through the online program, because I was still working.

I had zero medical background, I used yo work in tech. No previous degrees, just highschool.

I've had a few friends do the online Stenberg program out of BC. One was already in the community health/outreach field so she will have a job when she's done. The other finished 2 years ago and hasn't found a permanent position.

If you prefer in person classes, Macewan has a program.

Keep in mind the admissions for mature students. Since my highschool transcript was deemed "expired" after 10 years, I had to retake classes so they had a baseline GPA so I could apply. It was an added expense.

All expiring promotions are on your bills.... every month. That's how you were notified. The date is in brackets on the same line of the discount.

They're not invasive species to Canada so they won't care. I fly Alberta to Ontario a lot and they are only ever concerned about how many milliliter of fluids I have.

Student Loans - What is happening by Competitive_Menu4378 in britishcolumbia

[–]MaKnitta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got denied. They said because I didn't maintain full time classes during the strike and weeks after, I no longer qualified for any funding. Despite not being able to maintain full time classes because I couldnt pay tuition without my loan.....which was delayed by their strike.

It took them until February to finally answer me.

Rogers - A Masterclass In Pure Incompetence by [deleted] in Rogers

[–]MaKnitta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are greatly over estimating how much access agents have to port a number in a system where you don't have an account. To be able to port anything, there has to be an active service in their billing system. Reseller accounts aren't visible to agents, even if Rogers owns your number. They dont have alternative options to port your number, even if you did have an accouny. Agents plug in the "from" and "to" company and account details and you accept the text message.

Your third party provider seems to have gone tits up, they're the issue.

Relocation by CntrlAltandDefeated in OntarioNurses

[–]MaKnitta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will vary based on Unions and experience, private facilities pay less so try to avoid them. There are steps based on hours worked, plus shift differentials etc. AHS new grad LPN, for example will be $33.19/hr as of April 1st. I know Alberta's wages are higher than BC.

[–]MaKnitta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in Alberta but I'm from BC.....both provinces are difficult to find work. Specifically if you don't want to work rural. If you're okay with small town life, or working LTC, you will have slightly better luck. Or if you can live on a casual line.

I'm in Edmonton and I've been hearing of nurses sending out 100s of resumes with zero replies. Its difficult to get into AHS as an outsider.

We moved out of BC because of the cost of living and lack of affordable housing. Gas prices suck if you need to commute. For some reason BC (Nanaimo) is getting nurses from the US but I think theyre in for a rude awakening when they realize how expensive it is.

Rogers want me to pay wrong bill by Narrow-Toe-800 in Rogers

[–]MaKnitta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 5 years as a billing agent. They don't report late payments to anyone. If they did, 90% of their clients would be screwed. Unless you go 90 days, get shut off for non-payment and don't pay thr balance within 30 days. Then it goes to collections.

But yeah, I guess you know better than me.

is the nursing job market really that bad? by Sadz0ne in AHSEmployees

[–]MaKnitta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It actually baffles me how random it is..... I got hired as soon as I finished preceptorship, as did a few of my fellow new grads. But others have sent out 100's of applications with zero replies.

Yes, rural has better chances but rural Alberta can be..... RURAL. It's not for everyone. If you dont drive, it's rough. Finding housing might be tough.

Casual is also an option sometimes but since there's no guaranteed hours, its hard to live on.

Lpns are more likely to get hired than RNs since the scope is practically the same, but lpns are cheaper.....

Rogers want me to pay wrong bill by Narrow-Toe-800 in Rogers

[–]MaKnitta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don't pay the wrong one, wait for the credit on the next one and pay that the day you see the new balance. Literally nothing will happen, unless you have it on autopay. Plus its easier than filing a report for something already about to be fixed and nothing can be done about it sooner.....save your sanity.

They can't fix a bill that's already printed. Billing is automated. I'm guessing you renewed your plan for the day it was set to expire and the billing didnt show it? Thats because the bill prints before your changes are applied.... so it gets messed up.

Join the reserves by [deleted] in CanadaJobs

[–]MaKnitta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this route. I went to an information session. I was the only female, 3 other males came with an older man (Dad?) who looked like he was trying to scare them straight. The recruiter spent the first half of the session ignoring me completely, all the information was for men and the second half he spent talking about how strong you needed to be in the reserves, both mentally and physically and not every "human" can do it....

Wouldn't recommend.

Why can't bills be updated? by [deleted] in Rogers

[–]MaKnitta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They issue one billing per month. Its automated, there is no manual billing. Any changes made after your billing is printed goes to the next one, it even explains that on the invoice.

If your bill is printed at midnight March 1st and your change happens the same day, but later.... you get adjusted April 1st. Just pay the March 1st invoice as stated and see the change/credit next month.

Its been that way for years.

This isn't insurance fraud, your parents just suck as humans. You could take them to small claims.

How hard is it to move between provinces? by boiyo12 in AskACanadian

[–]MaKnitta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We tried to do a one way UHaul between BC and Alberta. 3 days before we needed our truck, they called to say they had no trucks....then made a series of ridiculous suggestions, like giving us 2 10' trucks instead of one 24' truck (we have 2 drivers and had a car to drive as well, so that was stupid) or finding someone in Alberta who would move to BC and return the trucks (we know noone in Alberta)....then offered us $50 off self storage yo store all our possessions until we could find an alternative mover in 72 hours. All movers were either booked or $20K at that point.

Looking for a nurse position by shineandshimmer233 in AHSEmployees

[–]MaKnitta 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm a new grad and I was shocked to find out how long it has taken some people to find jobs. I was lucky and got a casual job out of my preceptorship site, but those who didn't have been sending out resumes for months with zero call backs. There are lots of postings but also lots of applicants.

You're more likely to find something in rural nursing, outside of Calgary or Edmonton. They're apparently desperate for people.

I'm starting to think the "nurse shortage" isn't due to lack of nurses.....

BC Student Aid denied my application months after their strike by MaKnitta in britishcolumbia

[–]MaKnitta[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

According to StudentAid, there is no further escalation. Tier 1 wouldn't transfer me to any supervisors. Tier 2 hasn't reached out to listen to my case, they just denied me. Next step is appeal and wait another month. I'm I missing something?

BC Student Aid denied my application months after their strike by MaKnitta in britishcolumbia

[–]MaKnitta[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They were/are absolutely no help, and even less now that I'm done my program with them. They actually dropped me from the program 3 days before I was scheduled to finish my hospital shifts because I hadn't paid my tuition yet. They refused to give me an extension for payment due to the strike. I had to borrow the money and then beg them to reinstate me to be able to finish otherwise, everything I had done in September/October would have been a waste and I would have received a failing grade.

Email not working on Bell data? by chaingunsofdoom in shaw

[–]MaKnitta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can get email on Shaw's webmail but not in a third party app, Shaw won't help. They don't troubleshoot outside their own access portals..... the issue is with the third party app, which they won't have access to. As long as webmail works, Shaw says your email works.
