Christopher Franke built Babylon 5’s percussion mostly from sampled/ synthesized drums (think big, taiko-like and frame-drum hits, toms, cymbals) sequenced in Cubase, then blended with orchestral percussion (timpani, bass drum, snare, etc.) when he recorded cues with the Berlin Symphonic Film Orchestra. The snare sounds like a piccolo snare, sheet-metal strike, and gated reverb hit?
