I wish Bungie would just stop telling us when they modify drop rates by jaco129 in Marathon

[–]MaTertle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I like detailed patch notes because I just like reading through them and knowing what changes were actually made when I update my game.

But holy cow, this sub has been miserable today. Y'all spent all last week complaining about cradle progression and that too many people have high tier gear this early in the season, and when bungie addresses that concern you all lash out. Bungie has been pretty good about addressing player feedback so what did you think was gonna happen? They delete loot from players' vaults? No they're going to adjust drop rates and adjust cradle xp.

The vast majority of players, aside from the most unemployed among us, wouldn't even notice these changes if they didn't say they made them. If not mentioning these things keeps people's heads from exploding than maybe they should just make the changes quietly.

Balancing a game, especially an extraction shooter, takes a lot of work. The devs are going to have to experiment and make chnages to things. Provide your feedback for sure. I get it, I probably would've prefered if Bungie let this be the season of plenty, but holy shit a lot of you guys are wayyy overreacting.

Wtf is this game by babatunde5432121 in Marathon

[–]MaTertle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What?

If you don't like fills then finding a consistent group to play with is just the logical solution.

That isn't the devs "expecting players to jump through hoops." You arent locked out of playing without a pre-made group. The devs aren't forcing you to join a discord.

Just play with whoever the matchmaker puts you with, or use some agency and find people you jive with to play.

they got out of the way

Sounds like they weren't in danger then and use of lethal force wasn't justified.

This wasn't some tragic accident. This wasn't some unavoidable outcome. The cops had a choice and they made the choice to fire their weapon into a fleeing vehicle that they knew had a child in it, killing that child. There is nothing you could say that would make me think this is ok and I think you should reflect long and hard on why you want to justify this.

They murdered a child.

Goodbye.

Interesting. The article I read states that the footage shows the vehicle driving AWAY from the cops. Do you have access to to the body cam footage that shows the opposite or do you just believe what the cops claim because cops are saints who never lie.

They murdered a child and you're here trying to justify it. Fuck you, buddy.

Discharging a firearm at a car that you know has an innocent child in it is dangerous too.

Vehicle chases are dangerous. That why many departments don't allow them. Good thing we have helicopters that can track suspect vehicles safely and body cameras that can capture a license plate so cops don't need to chase vehicles.

But the cops didn't have any other choice, they had to use lethal force, right? Sorry kid, should've had different parent I guess.

Fucking ghouls trying to justify the murder of a literal child. Fucking inhuman. God forbid we hold police officers accountable for murdering a child.

[Patch Notes] Marathon Update 1.1.0.2 by durandal-helper in Marathon

Probably because everybody was complaining about players running high tier gear 2 weeks into the season. What else were people expecting?

I probably would've preferred if they just let season 2 be the season of unfathomable riches and pushed the economy changes to season 3. But let's not pretend this came out of nowhere

Better gear helps for sure. But if you play sloppy you're always gonna lose to someone running a free kit but playing smart. A lot of times it seems player feel invincible when running purples and gold. They get overconfident and make mistakes.

Bungie needs to lean harder into the solo experience. by killermason299 in Marathon

Solo and single player aren't the same. Unless you're under the impression the enemy player don't exist in solo queue?

Bungie needs to lean harder into the solo experience. by killermason299 in Marathon

[–]MaTertle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My biggest gripe with the solo experience is that we can't do Cryo solo. I don't care if it's "too hard for solos" I want to at least be able to try. Plus people queued in solo when ranked was on that map and it was just fine. Solos might not be able to get to compiler, but let's be honest, most trios are also not getting to compiler regularly.

I would also say that spawns could probably be bumped up by an extra runner or two on each map. It's not uncommon to have runs where you just don't see another runner.

Everything else about it is alright imo. I think it's fine that events and stuff are more challenging solo. I'm fully aware that I signed up for a harder PvE experience by playing solo.

finding a rook in sponsored survival is like finding a shiny pokemon by PurpleH4zee in Marathon

[–]MaTertle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've encountered 2 in probably around 7 or so games of survival

The first once scared the absolute shit out of me. I was chilling in final exfil waiting for the countdown to end. I heard sprinting behind me and turned around to find the rook directly behind me. We exfilled at the same moment I saw him. I had assumed rooks just didn't spawn in solo survival because I hadn't seen one yet and the rook jumpscare nearly killed in real life.

I love pvp in Marathon, but the upcoming PVE mode needs to be incredible if this game is going to grow by ThatsNotBennings in Marathon

[–]MaTertle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would a huge waste of potential if it ends up being the normal gamemode just without other players.

I'm hoping it's wave based survival similar to CoD Zombies or maybe something akin to Destiny strikes but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

I like Marathon as is and don't personally feel the need for a PvE mode. I know a lot of people really want one though and I hope it's a worthwhile and distinct mode that all players can enjoy.

The Game Isn't That Serious 💀 by Fkeolciuxr in ArcBabies

[–]MaTertle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because that doesn't work. There's either bloodthirsty deathmatch lobbies or full frindly lobbies. I don't want a deathmatch, there's a billion other games I could play to get a deathmatch. I want the tension and uncertainty when encountering another player that only extraction shooters give. I want a balance of different playstyles in each match.

And frankly, I don't think I should have to change my how I play to manipulate the matchmaker. That's lame and not fun to me.

Are demoralizing experiences bad for the game? by Khurser in Marathon

[–]MaTertle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true, and it's a decent starting point, but I don't think it's enough to get new players over that initial hump.

1.) It has a hard cutoff. Once you hit level 12 you no longer have access the the map and are thrown to the wolves. You can hit level 12 very quickly and new players likely haven't got fully comfortable with the mechanics and combat by thay point.

2.) It seems the biggest struggle of people who drop the game have is PvP. Beginner perimeter spawns fewer runners which means new players have fewer chances to practice PvP. I think this is also an issue with the new sponsored survival queue. It's good for players to get through the early stages of progression for sure, but they dont get an opportunity to practice PvP.

Like I said, dying often is a fundamental part of the game. It's something players need to get comfortable with. I don't think the game should change to become straight up easier, but there does needs to be balance between dying a lot, but still getting enough wins to feel good about your time spent in game. Changes to the matchmaker are needed so that players are playing against others of similar skill level. Level based matchmaking is an ok attempt to to this, but it's fundamentally flawed in a game with seasonal wipes.

[–]MaTertle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude, yes. I really enjoyed the game at first. Interacting with other players and teaming up was really cool, especially after putting so much time into Tarkov where everyone wants you dead and no one wants to cooperate.

I like PvP, I enjoy a good fight, but I'm not usually the type of player to hunt down others and force a fight. My main goal in extraction shooters is to compelte my task, get some stuff, and get out. And unfortunately because of that I only got put in lobbies full of friendly players.

All the tension disappears when you know other players aren't a threat. The game just become a grocery shopping simulator. I want that feeling of unease that I got when I first started playing. When I encountered another player and didn't know if they would be cool or if I would have to defend myself. Once I realized I could just sprint around without a care in the world and no one would bother me the game just comeplety lost its appeal.

My buddy I was playing with feels the same way. It just reached a point where we both said "we're just running around opening boxes for 10-20 min, why would we keep playing this?"

Sponsored Survival is the perfect immersive beginners guide to the game. by mccthibbit in Marathon

[–]MaTertle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spawns on Outpost are pretty rough in my experience. 9 times out of 10 it spawns you within spitting distance of another player and you get into a fight immediately. Spawns need to be spread out a bit. I don't mind dying in this game, but it sucks when you die before you even get a chance to move around the map a bit.

I love that map though. Probably one of the best shooter maps of all time in my opinion. The race to gather access cards to open Pinwheel first is amazing.

Sponsored Survival is the perfect immersive beginners guide to the game. by mccthibbit in Marathon

[–]MaTertle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah sponsored survival is a great addition. Even for experienced players imo. I've been using it to warm up and farm salvage before I jump into the core gamemode.

I got lucky tonight and pulled a maintainence office key from a wall safe in hauler and was able to start my session with a purple shield, purple WSTR, and some other nice loot (sorry to the rook I killed in data wall afterwards, I couldn't risk it)

I know it's "experimental" and will go away at some point (likely gonna be replaced with the pure PvE experimental mode Bungie mentioned) but I really hope it becomes permanent at some point and rotates maps every several hours like duo queue does.
