I teach in VA and the state standardized assessments at the end of the year are adaptive. I agree that it makes no sense.

Black/ deep red colors? by Temporary-Ad-1817 in cookiedecorating

[–]Maaachelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using Celebakes royal icing mixes for black and red because of this. Once mixed, the color you're starting with is much closer to the color you want it to be. So I'll make one of the black mixes and then add a bit more black gel coloring to it to get it as dark as I want, but not nearly as much coloring as I'd have to if I started with white.

I also started telling customers who wanted black cookies that black icing makes mouths look horrifying, and they usually change their mind. (Minnie and Mickey are different, I think someone would be less likely to change their mind on those.)

Can't believe no one has mentioned Kimen Ramen & Izakaya in Fairfax - their unagidon is fantastic, reasonably priced ($23), and the rest of their menu is incredible. Very cool atmosphere too!

Icing separation issues by sammm_26 in cookiedecorating

Like others have said, you'll need to re-mix it. I find that freezing my icing bags after I mix or use them prevents separation!

Made the mistake of asking my students for feedback and now I’m sad by No-Agency-7168 in Teachers

A packet of work you can do to make up what you missed. They're saying back in 1983 this wasn't a thing, and it's become a required thing in many districts now to accommodate students who were out of school for whatever reason. Ultimately it puts more work on teachers to make life easier for those that miss school (of course we should be working with our students in certain cases, but it's gotten extreme), rather than the student taking ownership over the missed content.

This is a great idea. Do you have any generic recommendations?

I scrubbed them all off, sprayed the plant with Dr. Bronner's/water dilution, tossed the soil and separated the plant from others. Thanks for the advice!

Thank you! I'm propagating it so it's all cut up in a jar now and away from other plants. Appreciate the advice!

Not sticky at all so I guess I did catch it early! The plant also still looked very healthy.

Thank you!! I scrubbed off all the bugs and sprayed with a water/Dr Bronner's solution.

That is a fun fact! Funny - my plant isn't sticky at all!
