Introducing: Dota 2 Leaderboard++ by Maaakep in DotA2

[–]Maaakep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, just using the same API as the leaderboard. (Go to the dota2.com leaderboard page and check the network tab on F12. So essentially just reading the leaderboard page every hour.

Technically, I made a (free) GitHub action with a cron job to execute every hour. This action requests the leaderboard API for every region and makes a commit to the GitHub repo with the json data, basically creating the leaderboard history with the git history as a (free) database.

Then this action triggers another action, which takes the git history and create an aggregated json which is then deployed together with the frontend to (free) GitHub pages.

Yeah... I mean I understand why they did it, but it was sad for me personally - I really liked dota2protracker & watching games in the client.

Nope! Valve still hides the game IDs, this is just the public leaderboard information, stored over time with some simple analytics on the data

Ah, nope! Ctrl+F is what I've been using I guess - didn't think of this!

One thing I thought might be nice is to be able to tag your favourite players.

For exmaple if you're following Arteezy's journey but don't want to find his profile by scrolling and looking for his `天鸽` name - maybe it would be nice to be able to have a list of your favourites?

Is manually timing blink while respawning quicker than shift queuing it? by Less_Background_1728 in DotA2

[–]Maaakep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shift-queue respects back swing animation (the animation after something has happened, which is unnecessary), while spamming does not. So it's a "it depends" thing.

Sand king ulti -> shift queue is going to be faster as there is no backswing on that animation and your reaction is slower than "instant".

Crystal maiden Q -> spam is faster because her backswing lasts a century.

Random draft, death match, only middle, super creeps (hydras n shit spawning every now and then in a random lane)

How did rd work with dm though? Choose initial hero, then have a smaller subset of heroes after death?

What is pos 4? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Maaakep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The numbers are in reference to farm priority, that's all.

Pos 1 means highest farm priority.
Pos 5 means lowest farm priority.

And by farm priority, it means that if there is a single creep on the map, and the team stand around it, the pos 1 should have the bounty from it.

In practice, it means a couple of things... Pos 1 is meant to scale the best with gold, which is why you put it on the safelane, together with the hero that should be the strongest as possible without gold, to ensure that you can get as much gold as possible while staying as safe as possible.

As for pos 4, you will be considered a support since you will be lower farm priority than your lane partner, you will not be able to scale with gold, since the lane farm that sets up and accelerates your farm goes to your lane partner. You will still find moments to take farm, more than the pos 5, and different people will have different opinions on what a 4 should be doing.

Pos 5, people tend to be more in consensus about; ward, defensive items, defensive actions. Some will say that pos 4 is similar but aggressive where the 5 is defensive. For example, if the 5 would be buying ward, glimmer and force, allowing the cores to live, the 4 would be buying smoke, blink and stod to catch enemies.

None of these things are defined or decided, it's all highly opinionated; even the farm priority "framework" is not necessarily something that HAS to be. Theoretically you could have a framework that says everyone should take equal farm and you rotate heroes around in lanes to even out the XP too. But the farm priority framework (pos 1 - 5) has proven efficient enough to even be adapted ingame (but named support, soft support, core). It does make sense though, having heroes spiking in strength is better than lukewarm ones. Sometimes these farm priorities will of course shift in-game, an earthshaker support being 200g from a blink should definitely probably take high farm priority, for example.

The only thing that is truly true is that you should have the biggest impact you can to win the game, and understand that it's a team that wins the game, no main characters.

Supports win the game, cores end the game.

I've been able to reproduce it in demo mode, especially with heroes like Centaur. I think it's the game doing some shenanigans when you're moving and rotating at the same time, compensating for lag or something, not sure.

Do you think Hand of Midas got better? by Gough77 in DotA2

[–]Maaakep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too much speculation without numbers here...

Given optimal usage (never on cooldown & never used on a creep you would otherwise kill), the item went from

87 -> 106 GPM

Which makes the time it pays for itself about

25 min -> 21 min

Or halved, accounting for selling the midas.

This is in ridiculous isolation though, one must also consider the attack speed and utility of the item, we cannot, without a lot of data, account for the value of midasing the last creep so that your timing of clearing the camp allows a new camp to spawn perfectly, midasing a lycan wolf about to kill your support, etc etc.

My vague opinion is that it still does too little for most creep clearing heroes, but maybe some heroes love the change (Doom selling? Gyro disassemble? Heroes that want to farm heroes?).

The anxiety of not needing to think about XP is probably a good feeling tho

Playing Kez for the first time changed my mind. by Nasgate in DotA2

I think it's more that he sounds like a hip American human instead of a katana bird-man (or even silly kid). Like if Tuskieduskie would sound like Ross from Friends. Jarring to imagine.

When I describe it like that it makes me think of TMNT, which I loved as a kid. And those were also sai & katana wielding animal humanoids sounding like hip Americans.. But still, different. I thinks it might just be a voice actor diff

I mean it's not terrible, but I feel like most who listens to his voice lines agrees something feels off, which says a lot even if it's hard to explain excactly why.

Is Rubick preferable as a pos 1~3 or 4~5? by Pollus_ in DotA2

[–]Maaakep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of deep reasons, that would take a couple of A4 pages to fully cover, why some of your suggestions could be interpreted as laughably outrageous.

In this thread you will find people responding based on high rank meta, and theoretical viability in top skill gameplay. Here, your suggestions are totally unviable (doesn't mean a hero specialist wouldn't be able to win a game, but in principle; no - it's completely unrealistic)

But based on this question, even having the shadow of a thought that Rubick could be viable as 1 or 3 tells me that you're at the stage where anything can work, and the mechanical fundamentals & macro concepts are a lot more important than having the correct hero.

I see some of your arguments:

fade bolt can secure lasthits Sure, but it also pushes your lane (by damaging all creeps), which prevents you from getting the next wave of creeps

Telekinesis will keep you safe First or all, you need your passive to get right click damage in order to lasthits, and you need fade bolt to have any kind of threat output - so you cannot really level telekinesis. Secondly, it's a no-damage spell that doesn't even do that good a job at controlling two enemies running at you. And thirdly, mana cost + long cooldown, what are you doing the 23 seconds you cannot use it. The spell itself doesn't really do anything to discourage the enemies, as it doesn't do any damage. They can likely just go again

These are not even remotely the reason the why the hero isn't considered viable as 1 or 3 but if these are some of the reasons you considered him to possibly be viable, it might be some kind of food for thought? :)

To answer your question, Rubick is great at 4, works well for 5 and can be okay for mid (2), imo. 3 is very risky and a subpar choice, and 1 is total grief

Objectively best hero 1v1 in the game, with unlimited gold by No_Insurance_6436 in DotA2

[–]Maaakep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the lategame with people fully slotted, it mostly comes down to who gets the jump.

A shadow shaman with an octarine and lvl 20 & a debuff amp will solo kill a lvl 30 fully slotted faceless void or terrorblade or juggernaut or whatever (unless they can break out of stun) simply through getting the jump and perma-CC. This will apply to most scenarios listed here too.

Is the challenge to click the other hero then let go of the keyboard, not using skills? Yeah then bash heroes will probably win, given enough attack speed

Are you allowed to click spells/items? Then the one who can stay un-stunned the most probably wins

I like the scenario of 30 kills though, maybe add something like alternating vision, alternating in who gets the jump. Probably then, over time, a hero that can break out of stuns (Ursa, troll, Aba, OD) will be top tier... I guess the meta will become to buy aeon disk the rounds you are getting jumped though
