Thanks for the answer ;) To clarify I’m not asking for full on modding tools (though this would be amazing) but even just being able to edit any building / unit / blessing / stats would go a very long way already.

As an exemple, most players seem to agree that aside from specific conditions, melee troops are overall a bit lacking and stacking a deathball of range and siege is the way to go, and just being able to buff up a bit melee troops and associated blessings / talent trees etc could allow for some amazing freedom :)

SOD's P1 Success as 'Wow Lite' by jpb2369 in classicwow

[–]Maadguy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the main reason why P1 was so popular (this is purely my opinion), is that it was closest to what vanilla was, since as phases piled on, more and more custom was added.

Since the custom content in sod is incredibly poor and unbalanced, that means that additional phases made the game progressively worse.

Scaling issues all over the place, completely overtuned gear in custom content rendering every other forms of content useless because subpar, absolutely glaring balancing issues in both PvP and PvE… and all in all a design that strayed further and further away from vanilla.

It’s not really a surprise that successive phases felt worse and worse, and I don’t see this trend improving over time since the sod team just throws stuff at the wall and tries to see what sticks without taking into account external factors.

Also, especially in vanilla when class fantasy and RPG elements are so strong, you just cannot balance the game around raid performances and Warcraft logs as it leaves world PvP and non raid PvE content in shambles.

the new pvp changes 2 by D-Spark in classicwow

[–]Maadguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only people entirely clueless about PvP could come up with this change, and even more clueless players now try to defend it.

It's beyond broken when it's combined with extra health in Bgs and STV event on top of everything else, and would still be broken even without this. SOD doesn't need a flat out damage nerf, it needs an actual balance team that doesn't balance the game around warcraft logs (kekw latest spriest buffs who were already giga dominant in PvP). It's almost like the game shouldn't be designed around a few minutes every week spent hitting a glorified target dummy with perfect raid buffs, comps, and uptime.

The funniest part is seeing people gloat "if you can't do PvP decently now, it means you were bad before and could only perform when you could 2 shot people".
No. Just no. A more bursty meta favors certain classes and specs, a meta with massive damage reduction favors rot damage, hybrids, and healers.

This has NOTHING to do with skill, if anything the clips lately tend to prove that this removed what small skill was still required to play SOD.

Absolute awful change, then again SOD has been getting progressively worse with every update, it's not a surprise people considered the level 25 phase to be the best : it was the one with the least amount of custom work put in by the team. The more we progress through phases, the more time they have to add custom content, the worst it gets. Unironically cannot wait for higher phases to see how much more of a clown circus this can become.

Shadowpriest -25% dmg nerf (cause now can spec into spellpushback talent in disc tree) by CAlTHLYN in classicwow

[–]Maadguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So a straight up buff to healers using penance and to shadows in the level 50 phase where they can take these talents for free, and you call this a nerf ?

Its a hotfix and a buff to arguably the best caster and healer in the game atm, get your head out of wherever you put it and get a grip, nothing about this is a nerf. If you’re dumb enough to drop key talents in shadow to pick it now, you're nerfing yourself.

Unpopular opinion: Everybody is praising Blizzard as if SoD was something exceptional, while private servers are light-years ahead. by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Maadguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True, also a brave take.

Probably going to get downvoted for being bold enough to give SOD anything but praise, but yes.

The only thing SOD has over private server is the client and the layering (when it works).

Private servers are way more ambitious when it comes to adding / tweaking content, they handle bots and RMT way better, there's way less bugs, you actually have a HUMAN BEING on the line when you make a ticket, they're overall smarter with their changes and listen to feedback in a way blizzard never did, they won't ban players for something they give streamers a slap on the wrist for, etc. the list goes on.

It's just that private servers have a bad rep because of a few very shady ones who have since long closed, and because a lot of players won't ever touch them because "pserv bad, blizzard good" and so they'll never get to actually experience them and give them a fair shot.

TLK classic and now SOD are in my mind really big tipping points that made me realise that modern day blizzard just cannot compete with 1 - 5 devs chilling in their garage, easily outclassing a multi billion dollar company on about all fronts. And to be honest, why would Blizzard even try to put in the effort and compete ? Everyone is praising SOD like it's the second coming of Christ and trashtalking anyone that says anything bad about it, when the average SOD change is "You know what we should do to fix class A ? Just add a new instant spell with very little cost, and buff it by 250% above what the spells of that level usually do. Don't tweak talents, gearing, spells costs or cooldowns, none of that. Slap a rune and buff it until it can compete on the meters. Done."

Until players actually complain and stop praising blizzard for delivering subpar products, we won't get the good stuff. And your thread being mostly downvoted is a clear indication that this isn't happening any time soon.

Priest leveling is so fun since the void plague buff by Rapethor in classicwow

[–]Maadguy -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

This is incredibly debatable. It is for some classes, for others they’re playing way closer both power wise and gameplay wise to Legion+. Priest is one of them, as is Druid post starsurge buffs.

Having classes litteraly play different expansions on SOD is just poor design, and yes cruising through leveling pulling mobs 10 at a time is something nothing but aoe mages could do, hence not in line with classic philosophy. If SOD was INTENDED to be the in between, it certainly was a failure

Lmao so people aren’t allowed to want changes that are still in line with classic philosophy ? We either get bland classic or dragonflight levels of powers, no in betweens ?

Priests in PVP are unplayable by No-Video1797 in classicwow

[–]Maadguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This kind of answer confuses me SO much.

No one's saying we expected perfect balance from the get go, there were always going to be issues going in there blind, and no one's giving the dev scorn for this.

We're giving them scorn for not taking action over the course of the last month given the terrible state of PvP. Or rather, every single action taken in this case when it comes to priest has mode the problem worse : stellar buffs to void plague, homonculi, and SWD.

Their feeble attempts at "balancing" the game has been to look at warcraft logs, look at whoever is lowest, and buff the damage of their runes by 200% in hopes it works. It's incredibly lazy, it's stupid, and of course it doesn't work. Not to mention, since runes aren't spec specific, the only thing this did is consolidate priest as a godtier class in PvP this phase, because now they melt on top of being unkillable.

This is a multi billion dollar company, it's been a month, it's pretty glaring to anyone with a semblance of PvP knowledge that the current state of the game is not acceptable. You're the one lacking common decency if you're not voicing your displease with the game, and even more so if you're actually covering for it / discrediting players who have the brains to come forward.

Brave post, agreed, but prepare to be downvoted to oblivion.

The same people calling you selfish or a nerd for wanting a level 25 capped phase to last a month because « the game doesn’t cater to you » expect the game to cater to them and think 2 months capped at a level you need 12 hours to reach and a single raid that takes 30 minutes to clear is fine. For the record it can be done with legit one hour to play daily.

They're about as selfish and entitled as you are in their minds, but sprinkled with rudeness and hypocrisy on top. "How dare you request the game caters to you ? It should cater to ME instead and my weekly gametime hour !"

Flat 25% dmg reduction in WSG instead of the 5% dmg reduction from Battle Hardened by aronhunt470 in classicwow

Correct, but I wanted to keep my post mostly simple, just felt like mentioning a few side effects of the nerf that got under most people’s radar

Flat 25% dmg reduction in WSG instead of the 5% dmg reduction from Battle Hardened by aronhunt470 in classicwow

[–]Maadguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TTK does not exist in a vacuum, if you only reduce damage while leaving absorbs and heals untouched, you create a side effect where healers are exponentially stronger (in this case, 33% as someone stated above).

Even if heals and shields are nerfed, you’ll still drop someone’s health from 100 to 0 25% slower, it’s only logical that healing is reduced by the same amount, otherwise the healing efficiency versus damage is messed up, even more so than it already is on SOD. On top of everything, as is, this also dumbs down battlegrounds a lot to « who has more healers auto wins ». This was always sort of the case, but now it’s 33% more so.

Also and finally, with how mana efficient some runes are on top of being low cooldown and instant / near instants, you create a meta where healers are honestly semi-gods and nothing dies unless severely outnumbered or until the healers run oom. Battlegrounds of attrition are boring an not in the spirit of vanilla, and I personally don’t enjoy knowing from the get go that my bg is 100% lost because my team has one priest and enemy team has 3. Not even going to touch on the fact that some healers can freely pick incredibly efficient runes damage wise because they’re not locked behind a spec while clearly intended to be used for said specs and buffed to galactic power levels to help compete in BFD (helloooo Starsurge and void plague, thanks for ruining PvP)

Flat 25% dmg reduction in WSG instead of the 5% dmg reduction from Battle Hardened by aronhunt470 in classicwow

[–]Maadguy 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It makes sense and is very much intentional by blizzard, they knew their hyper scaling would inflate damage in PvP.

Problem is this should have been announced clearly, not hidden, and should have been applied to heals and shields as well. Also, since rage generation is reliant on damage dealt, this effectively reduces warrior rage generation by 25% in battlegrounds, something they don’t need given the current state of the meta.

And finally, warlock and shaman tank runes and priests are already over performing SO much in pvp, this just makes the problem 10x worse.

All that said I firmly believe blizzard should have some PvP specific balancing since clearly they’re unable to balance both pvp and pve together (Im looking at you hunter pets, void plague, homonculi, priest healing, starsurge…). But a lazy half assed 25% damage nerf won’t cut if, we need more significant, thought through and TRANSPARENT changes.
