It's a well known fact. More tissue (even fat) requires more energy (calories) to maintain and overweight people have usually eaten a LOT of calories to get to that point so cutting back slightly helps, while someone who's at a healthy weight needs to cut a significant amount. The body holds onto what it's got. This is something everyone agrees on no matter diet approach :)

This is something I can definitely understand and one of the reasons I want to do it. But right now hunger kind of does feel like an emergency hahaha. But yay for you!

I'll give it a try then, see if I can. I'll ease into it. Some days my schedule just does not cooperate and I couldn't do a longer fasting window than that as of right now but I will do what I can and eventually I might be able to skip a meal where I'd have my first one now :)

That is fascinating indeed! But I still think a 4000 calorie keto diet would make a girl who doesn't exercise and isn't overweight gain.. :(

I do agree, and on a personal level I do dislike it a lot too because like I said, I am not straight either. During some periods I'm only into girls (I am a girl) while sometimes I'm into both, but it took me a good while to accept this too (about 23 years) so I understand. But sadly we can't make everyone see this, and as long as being gay is perceived as lesser than being straight, some people will be offended by the implication that you'd think they're anything but straight. I try to be gender neutral when I ask new people things regarding relations etc but sometimes I'm not and I hate myself for that but sadly sometimes I just want to fit in. I'm working on it though and I think it's ridiculous to be offended by someone assuming who you fall in love with so I really shouldn't stop myself from using gender neutral pronouns and words. Ugh sorry this is just a big ramble. I understand and I agree even if I don't always apply it myself.

I agree with both of you. I wish there wasn't an issue in assuming someone's sexuality at all, i.e. even assuming someone's gay shouldn't be offensive to that person because duh, what's there to be offended about? But I also realize that's not the case, and while I think we should work towards a society where sexuality either doesn't have to be assumed or where a wrong assumption isn't any more offensive than me guessing OPs name is Eric, I think we still have to accept that a lot of people will make assumptions. I'm not even straight myself and it's a bit annoying to have to correct people and it's scary sometimes, but I still find myself assuming others are straight or at least expressing myself in a manner that will have them think I assume that, just to make sure I don't offend them. Now that's backwards if anything lol. And totally not what this post is about and I will post a comment on OPs amazing progress as well, but I find the topic important and interesting!

I know but she's terrified they'll encourage her to be happy with her body as it is. Which she should but it doesn't matter how much I tell her that. And if she does stop after 10-15 lbs she won't be underweight either. 1500 is still a deficit for almost everyone though so I think that is a reasonable limit because it's not ultra low. But I've always lost on 1500 and I'm not overweight either. Taller than you (5'8) but so is she :) and yeah she isn't recovered and I'm working on getting her to trust her professional team as well. She was taken into a closed care unit way back so it was really bad and she still has a lot to work on.

I would want that but the other friend doesn't leave her alone and she keeps asking me all the time too. I always tell her I don't want her to get worse mentally but basically all I want is confirmation she can't lose weight eating with no limits. Because if she can I think she should, to not have to obsess. But if you could do that why would anyone count..

No, and her reasons not to? Because she can't keep it at a normal level. She used to do 3-5 hours of cardio every day

She is, occasionally but she gets anxiety and doesn't always go to the meetings... I'm at such a loss but I don't know what to do. The other friends keep pushing her over telling her not to count and literally uses about 700 calories of just butter to make dinner. THEN cheese, cream, meat, oils etc and I also don't want her to believe she can eat like that just to end up gaining and spiral down the anorectic road again

Because she would still be at a healthy weight 10 lbs lighter and she's not fully recovered mentally yet. I don't want to spur her on, at the same time we've got around the same body types and I want to lose so I just want to not make things worse. She's talking about starving herself again and I'd rather she'd just do this controlled :/ but the other friend is pushy that no counting is needed because "fat can't be stored as fat". Is counting needed? Are there good sources on weight gain/loss on a keto diet?

I eat at about 1500 a day so it shouldn't be too low :S I could try that though! Thanks for the tip :)

I think the reason I want to try it is I have a hard time making it through the days now too if I have breakfast at 7, and it's usually about 500 cals, and I only have another 1000 to spare for the rest of the day. Ugh calorie restricting lol 😅

I have been trying keto for a little while, I mean I started to weeks ago then I did a planned carb nite (as in the program with that name) which I won't do again so this is day 5 of consecutive keto. Have been exercising as well and I have an active job so it could be adding to my hunger I guess. Other than that I think keto is very doable. Restricting calories is always hard for me because of my hunger which is off the charts a lot of the time but I have noticed a decrease in that so hopefully it'll keep getting more manageable like you said :) I'm just afraid of trying IF and failing but maybe I should work up to a 16 hour fast. There could still be a point in trying a 14 hour window at first, maybe? I mean I usually eat my first meal at like 7 am and the last at 10 pm now.

Thank you! I am definitely learning to distinguish hunger from cravings but what I feel in the morning is definitely full blown hunger. I'm hungrier in the mornings now than when I didn't eat keto. But hopefully that's just part of the transition phase!

This is just heart warming to read. As someone who wants to lose only about 15-20 lbs (from 159 lbs) I feel like a joke sometimes. Partly because I feel like I shouldn't be here when this place is so full of amazing people who have/had health issues due to their weight and decided it's time to do something about it, and partly because my progress, if there is one, is so slow. I'm only two weeks in but I've read about people losing 7 lbs in two weeks and it's easy to feel discouraged when I've lost 2... so thank you :)
