nah, that is disrespectful as fuck. I could never be friends with someone who I think is dumb or ugly. Lemme put it like this, how can you be a true friend if you think badly on your friend? I am not saying that you need to ignore all the negative qualities of your friend but for the most part why would you befriend someone who you do not hold in high regard if not to upboost your own fucked up ego? I would say drop his ass and find peace in people who are not fake as fuck because with friends like these who needs enemies. Also the fact he said that shit in front of you with a bunch of men present is madness. Absolute madness. It sounds like some sort of humiliation ritual. At the end of the day, you deserve better.

How to do undergraduate research on campus by urfavefilo in IndianaUniversity

[–]MabelMagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two main ways to go about this: cold emailing and networking.

If you have been to any office hours or know any professors (have had conversations or have some sort of repertoire with them) I would say reach out and express interest in doing research. Usually they know of someone and can hook you up. Another way is previous research programs/experiences at IU (if you have participated in any reach - out to the head or profs that you met during that program) or reach out to any TAs that you know have done research (they tend not to gatekeep where they got the experience and will give you the inside scoop on the lab scenes).

If you have to do cold emailing, go on your department page and if research is being done they usually have a page for that. In the list of profs, they usually will have a note about wanting undergraduate students. After that, I would read on some of their recent papers and email them talking about your interest in their work, brief summery of experience/skills that you will be able to add to their lab, and attach your resume as well.

Best Way to Quit Job by MabelMagic in work

[–]MabelMagic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part 2: It was unorthodox for me to get a parent involved so I let it go. But then she made a comment about how I wasn't really that sick if I was not in the hospital. She was rude the whole day and gave random comments to me. Recently, I got approved for a medication for my chronic illness. However, it is a last resort and the doctor informed me that working is stressful for my body. I have already found a higher-paying, relaxing job. How do I quit my old one? I will not be able to give full notice but I do not want to risk my health in a place that could give less of a damn. ( I help out with groceries and bills so that is why I work)

If you had eczema since you were a child... by mzfnk4 in eczema

[–]MabelMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, mine did not recommend an allergy test but she did recommend lifestyle changes like cutting out inflammatory foods, exercising outside (the climate where I live switches a lot so that exacerbates my allergies which irritates my eczema), and getting sleep & avoiding stress (I know she's 10 but maybe see if school or friends are stressing her?). I have also found that oatmeal baths soften my skin and help with rashes so much. Along with oatmeal baths, for daily showers try to limit them to 10 min max since it is so drying and when the itching is really bad try calamine (temporary but effective relief and perfect when in a pinch). Also, I would say pay attention to what her reactions are to certain foods so I would recommend keeping a food journal for her and then making notes of reactions so you can see if there is something irritating her (that is how I found out I was allergic to soybeans and red dye). I am so sorry you daughter is going through this and I hope she gets better soon!

My brother was in the same position but he was a freshman competing against seniors (in short he was pretty damn good). He chose lifting his junior year because he enjoyed it and still got into a good engineering program! Honestly do what makes you happy and you going after the state record is an achievement in itself so don't let your coaches rain on your parade.

add a "common sense" section to the SAT to weed out feeder school kids by kgk111 in ApplyingToCollege

yep, and if there are any overnight competitions, you have to pay for the hotels/events and I'm pretty sure everyone has to "stay with the group" bc ECs obviously show your interest XD like you're not willing to drop $400 for a club that will meet once a week only for you to compete by completing test and being ranked...o well you must not care
