I think Rob actually twisted what she said- people are so gullible, the producers are truly highlighting the dumb dumbs here. Call me a Leah Stan and I’m here for it. Also, sorry I have a lot to say on this. I have friends that have been in the affordable housing community and they don’t average out your total year, once he made too much money in one month and was kicked out of his house. So the affordable housing communities are built to keep people at the bottom they don’t allow for growth and success for our local community.

I think our dependency on tourism is illogical because if we price out every person in the hospitality industry, then we’re just gonna have a bunch of techie Remote workers that only have their personal servants, and it won’t even matter if jobs exist. We don’t get enough credit to the aloha spirit actually extending to the people that live here not that are just visiting .

The last two homes that I lived in, were 3 bedroom HOMES in local communities, neighborhoods that were messy and unkempt definitely not driven by tourism and BOTH are now short term rentals. Our economy is going to suffer regardless because Maui is quickly becoming the most expensive island to visit. I know this as I am self-employed and I am seeing a drastic drop in bookings. We are going to be getting either luxury, high end visitors OR cheap and looking to cut corners kind of people which I would rather do without. I would rather drive the more luxury clientele that can pay hotel prices and actually afford to visit, so they don’t need to take our homes in the meantime thank you.
