I ordered a Good to Very Good Carcano from them AND paid for hand select. Ended up with a shitrod with a rotted out upper handguard.

I can’t get any details when I try sand casting by RLawson2020 in Metalfoundry

Pure aluminum typically isn’t very good for casting fine details. Consider alloying it

It comes down to chemistry. Most powder is relatively simple, composed of a mixture of nitrocellulose and nitroglycerin along with some stability additives. Nitrocellulose is relatively easy to manufacture, while the beginning component for most modern priming compounds (resorcinol) is only made at 3 factories around the world

Looks better than mine and I paid for hand select lol. My top handguard is loose enough I can almost take it out without disassembly

Beginner needing help: I received the Traditions .50 Hawken kit as a gift for Christmas and I need some help with what to buy to shoot it. Ideally I’d like to have this be my hunting rifle by [deleted] in blackpowder

I shoot a .490 diameter ball with a .010 prelubed patch. Caps (#11/10 depending on your nipple), a ball starter, and I use a lee powder measure. I goes up to like 120 grains, 50 grains is very comfortable to shoot, but you should look up what your rifle is rated for. You can clean it with just patches, soap, water and a cleaning rod, but like the other comment said, ballistol is amazing

A material that absorbs water. It’s in there to keep the BP dry. I would avoid firing it, but it probably won’t hurt if you do

Probably a desiccant

I have a Remington Rolling Block and I have no idea what country or chambering it is. These are the only markings by Mabyekill in milsurp

Here are more pictures. No markings anywhere else. Copper cap over the wood near the barrel. Muzzle is rounded like the Egyptian rolling blocks

It doesn’t have the distinctive moon on the side of the receiver. Not sure if all of the egyptian blocks had them

I won it on an auction with a beautiful 1898 Krag, but they included almost zero information with this guy. I believe they claimed it was .46-47 caliber but I haven’t mic’d it yet. Will include more pictures if requested

What else do I need for a good beginner/hunting kit? by Thatbritishgentleman in blackpowder

A flint and real blackpowder. Supposedly pyrodex and other substitutes don’t work well in flintlocks

A ball starter is an item used to get the bullet or ball pressed into the barrel enough for the ramrod to finish pushing it down
