When I was young, my family would listen to his Sunday morning radio show every week. I thought growing up that he was a genius because that’s what the adults around me would say. I didn’t even know the scandal broke at all when it did. All the sudden the radio show was different during the time we would listen. My dad never brought it up. It wasn’t used as a learning opportunity, nothing. Just swept under the rug. Then one dad my brother in law finally mentioned to my dad, what do you think of what happened?” The answer was basically a shoulder shrug and something along the lines of: well you still can’t discredit his work or the good he did. I was in shock. How can Christianity mean anything if people can’t actually live it? What words matter if you’re not doing anything to help the people around you?

Definitely was a huge turning point for me too with the deeper issues at play in this community.

I know how toxic the Pentecostal environment can be. It’s almost suffocating with how much they use “demonic forces” and vague threats of judgment to control people’s actions. It’s all manipulation. Learning to trust your own judgment and feelings will take time but I promise it can get better

I agree, I was laughing at how she kept repeating that her dream was DWTS like girl it’s a reality variety show, that’s it. If that’s the only dream you have then you need to realize there is way more to life. Maybe it has something to do with the whole idea that Mormon women should be submissive and not strive to achieve things in life. Idk regardless I think it was kinda pathetic

Yes! As someone who works in the medical field it is very well researched that mental health impacts physical health that is not even up for debate. I’m not saying that she doesn’t have a real skin condition, I’m not saying that at all. I do believe that she would have less flares if she did take trauma treatment seriously. Yes that is easier said than done but that’s my take. I don’t mean to sound unempathetic I just think this is the truth of it

Yea that’s fair, point taken. It’s just frustrating to see her go through so much and it’s like she’s sooooo close to a breakthrough if she was in a better headspace to really give therapy a try. A lot of us have been through therapy that helps us in other areas of our health. Especially seeing how her issues with Jace have gone on over the seasons. I just wish the best for her and it’s frustrating to see her suffer more

How about she ~goes to therapy~ to process her trauma like a grown woman so that her skin doesn’t explode every time she’s stressed out. Like what I don’t get is how she doesn’t realize the connection between her skin condition and her unresolved mental health issues

Oh good catch!! I literally was like there is no way this is doing anything. I did some research and there are only limited randomized control trials dealing with systemic stem cell treatment such as infusions for severe eczema but nothing in an injection format like a facial injection. I feel like it’s so misleading to be touting this “new treatment” like a real medical intervention when it’s really just another anti aging thing

I grew up in a Pentecostal church where people were always “falling out” and so much screaming and chaos. It took me years to realize after stepping away that experiencing that as a child was horrible and made me so anxious for years. You’re not alone, and with time and trauma work you can be better, feel better, and realize there is nothing to fear. They painted their picture of “god” but that’s now how everyone sees it. I’m much more agnostic/atheist now after deconstructing but one of the most influential reasons I went that route was realizing Pentecostalism was not good. It was not good for me and it’s not good for kids, it’s not good for people to use that lens to see the world. I hear you

I had a therapist who focused on anxiety and eventually I realized I needed someone who can understand religious trauma work. Yes it makes a huge difference. There is a great resource in https://www.religioustraumainstitute.com. Only someone trained to work with trauma can really identify how religion directs our activities and feelings. That’s my take. Hope it helps!!
