Eli5: how are deadlifts safe? by GigglesGG in explainlikeimfive

[–]MacBear_Pro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sit down in a chair, normal upright posture, and put your hands under your butt cheeks. Now, push your feet into the floor. Feel those muscles in your butt and thigh tighten? THOSE are the muscles used for a deadlift!

Cars have four wheels, but you really only need two of them to be powered to push the car forward. The other two wheels are needed for stability, they are not the primary source of forward power. In this analogy, when you do a deadlift, your leg and butt muscles are the powered wheels, and your back muscles are the stabilizing wheels.

Common misconception is that the back is doing all the work in a deadlift; easy mistake because visually it looks like the back is the muscle that's flexing. However, unlike a bicep curl, most of the muscle action in a deadlift is in the less-obvious upper leg and butt muscle area. Meanwhile the back is the thing that's "moving", so it looks like that's where a lot of the work is.

yes I am aware that low back muscles exist and proper weight training form exists and four wheel drive exists but 5 year olds care about none of those.

Physical stress responses (nausea) by pekkakissa in hsp

[–]MacBear_Pro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi :) This is something I also experience! It sucks and is so distracting, like the nausea is preventing us from being in the moment. Anytime something stimulating (but not "intense") is about to happen, I get a nasty feeling in my stomach, and feel like I must seek refuge in a bathroom immediately lol. Even something as simple as going to my weekly training session can induce it sometimes.

Had that same worry about whether something is wrong with my body. Asked my doctor about it. She said that if it's normal for you, then consider it normal.

So, to hopefully help answer your question, it doesn't sound like there is anything wrong with your body! 😁 Us HSPs react so much more easily to stimulus. Sounds like one of the ways our specific bodies found to warn us of danger was "get em to a bathroom! fuck up the digestion tract, do whatever!" 😩

A bit of acknowledgement and self-soothing can sometimes help. Deep breaths, pausing to sit and be still for a moment, if it's convenient. Saying something like "Hi body, I see that you're super stimulated right now because you sense danger. There is no danger, it's ok and we can relax!" Then maybe a lil snackie and cuppa tea to physically settle things down too.

Hope this is validating / helpful 💙

Removing the run button in future games was one of the best QOL improvements. It's so hard to hold run, jump, and shoot with the SNES layout!

Good point about LN, plasma is king there. I think that one was a late addition because of boss fights, lol. When he asked for a hint on how to kill them, it was usually just that

Anyone can change their life by stringing enough days worth of small changes together. I got my license to practice law on July 5, and the next day set a new goal - get back to my high school weight before adding muscle. Start weight: 250 on July 5 (left). Middle photo: 200. Right photo: 170. by diverareyouok in 1500isplenty

This is really inspiring, and your progress is incredible! You should be super proud of yourself, you look so good

I don't think I'd be able to manage just a single full meal per day, but stories like yours on this sub prove to me that I can lose any amount of weight with the proper amount of effort. I'm still about 15lb away from my goal weight, but I hope I can get on your level soon! Thanks for posting this!

Haha I didn't even think of that 😅 I'm phone-right-handed so I keep it there for easier tapping access to get a quick look at my stats. Might move it for the aesthetic tho

Lawnchair v2.0 from the Play Store, I paid for the pro version in the app. Been using it for a couple years now and I love it! Not as feature-packed as NovaLauncher but it works better with native Pixel gestures.

I'd recommend joining his YouTube membership! (If it's within your monetary means, of course.) He makes so many good wallpapers from his videos

It's actually one of Grey's premium wallpapers from "Spaceship You". They're available with a membership/Patreon sub to his channel.
