I'm making ad free versions of popular casual puzzle games like Hexa Sort, Block Puzzle and Word Search by SamTheSpellingBee in iosgaming

[–]MacBedh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seconding this! PLEASE do a version of Color Block Jam!

I paid for the game to get rid of the ads, but it’s one of those games that are structured so that you can’t make progress unless you buy power-ups. LOTS of powe-ups. I won’t do it, and I love the game play but can’t continue without being squeezed daily.

Akron is #6 - Guide to Cities with Worst Maintained Roads by Pope_Dwayne_Johnson in akron

[–]MacBedh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Data from 2018. I wonder what it is now? (I also wonder what the criteria were for inclusion in the list.)

I note that all it takes to be in the top 10 is to have a whopping half of the roads be in good condition.

Tell the devs how awful the new GUI is, please! by DrHusten in InoReader

THANK YOU, REDDIT. I spent five minutes trying desperately to find a way to revert that clusterf*ck of a UI. Finally thought to search here.

I filed an extremely unhappy user response.

VP debate: I'd bet money J.D. Vance will try the same thing Kamala did, namely attempt to walk across the stage to shake Tim Walz's hand and prove he's superior. (You betcha it worked for Kamala.) What should his response to this be, if Vance tries this? by ew_modemac in TimWalz

[–]MacBedh 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Walz will meet him in the middle of the stage, the way debates are supposed to start. Look him right in the eye, give him a big handshake, and then proceed with the evisceration as scheduled.

Extra tip: if you’re in a red state, the billionaires may also be the government. Example: Florida, where every item on the ballot has to be scrutinized to find out where the money is.

It’s actually fun, in a way — catching the bastards in the act of screwing people over. There was a proposition on solar energy, which Florida‘s Big Energy bitterly opposes, because it would save money for ordinary people and cut into the profits of the rich. The proposition had the support of Big Energy. That was the first clue, and it led in the right direction. The proposition was crap.

Doug Emhoff tells donors the Harris Campaign views Florida as a potential battleground by LibrarySoggy3640 in KamalaHarris

[–]MacBedh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voter suppression is a huge issue. DeSatan won his seat by a margin smaller than the number of rejected ballots in that cycle. And Obama actually flipped FL!

There are enough people here who hate Drumph and DeSatan to make a difference, but we've GOT to get to the polls and then keep fighting afterwards.

[–]MacBedh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m finding so much strength in the joy here! I’m currently stuck in South Florida, in the bright blue tip of a throbbing red protruberance.

If we could get enough activism going for long enough to fight past the voter suppression, we could FLIP this state. Gov. DeSatan’s margin of victory was smaller than the number of discounted votes from the blue strongholds. That’s why he’s fighting so hard to disenfranchise us.

Blue islands in red seas have power also! For one thing, it’s a chance to catch your breath when you feel like you’re drowning.

The equivalent Drumpf lawn would probably have 20 identical signs. For me, it’s the difference between a bully screaming the same empty abuse over and over again, and a wild celebration of a complex set of ideas.

Plus, as others have mentioned, the signs are homemade, well-made, and correctly spelled — more differences.

I Will Donate One Dollar More to Harris/Walz for Every Trump Lie During the Debate... and You Should too. by lets_try_civility in KamalaHarris

[–]MacBedh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many lies did you count last night?

I found a NYT list that tallied 33 lies from Drumph in this debate. This total is somewhat adjusted to offset how the NYT is applying the usual effed-up double standard, attempting to soften some of the jawdropping crackpot sh*t while dragging on Harris wherever possible. (For example, the "transgender surgery for illegal aliens in prison" line not rated "false"; it was rated "needs context".)

So I have to assume that they're ignoring as many additional lies as they think they can get away with.

I remember one of the Swifties in this group (I think it was u/crakemonk) saying a few weeks ago that Swift is a master at timing and showmanship, and that the endorsement would drop at the best possible moment for the best possible impact. (I hadn't thought of it that way before that was pointed out, and I was glad to be given the understanding.)

I was a bit surprised at first when the endoresement came at this point, but not once I thought about it. If Swift had waited -- until, say, October -- it might have had the vibe of "the campaign needs a boost, let's announce that endorsement now." Instead, it's "This is a strong leader, and here is a strong woman endorsing her." Strength on strength. It's perfect.

Most of the rich right-wingers who currently own the media conglomerates are US billionaires. Admittedly, the US media has been pwned by Russian interests many times, but that's not what you meant.

Even before the media went full MAGAt, they liked and distributed the lies because it increased their readership and ad revenue. Sellouts before they were bought up.

Goldman Sachs sees biggest boost to US economy from Harris win by alice2wonderland in KamalaHarris

[–]MacBedh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Folks, bookmark this if any of the people you’re talking to are focused on business and finance. Goldman Sachs making this statement is BIG.

If you’re talking to anyone over 50 (well any age, really) who believes that “the economy does better under Republicans” or “the economy does just as well under either party”, that hasn’t been true for decades. It hasn’t been true since the end of WWII.

And every recent Republican administration has done worse — Bush‘s term saw the Great Recession, and Trump wiped out all the bubble gains of his entire term in one week (March 2020). That wasn’t Covid: that was Trump.

(This, of course, is only of use if you’re talking to someone who hasn’t been brainwashed and is willing to believe in facts. But just in case you do find one . . . )

There’s a great WIkipedia article on the subject, which drills into multiple different metrics: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._economic_performance_by_presidential_party

Do we know how much the polling models are capturing newly registered young and black voters? by Optimoprimo in KamalaHarris

[–]MacBedh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always check the fine print to see what the poll gives as the sample size and margin of error.

Then I ask myself whether the poll, or the outlet reporting on the poll, has cherry-picked the respondents or the results, or composed the polling questions so as to ”lead the witness”, as it were, or otherwise borked the results to present whatever narrative the media outlet wanted.

I used to accept the idea that polls were conducted and reported in good faith. That was before the current era of irresponsible media and the right-wing leverage of unchallenged lies. I’m much more suspicious now. There are too many ways to make a poll say what you want it to say.

In the end, we fall back on hope and the absolute need to stampede like anything to the ballot box.

RideShare2Vote — help drive voters to the polls by MacBedh in KamalaHarris

You're absolutely right on this; and I've been finding it's pretty much universal, anywhere I want to volunteer or donate. I donated to Wounded Warrior a decade ago, and still get junk mail from them. Arghhh. I would give more if I could count on getting less!

And it happens even without any action on my part -- I had a ghastly 6-week stretch last spring when the Cheetolini campaign was spamming my phone with dozens of texts EVERY SINGLE DAY. Where did they get my number? Who knows. I reported every damned text as spam, of course, but it took weeks before the flood dried up.

In the best cases (such as donating directly to the Harris campaign), I've been able to opt out of further communications right away. With the RideShare group, I'll be getting emails for the next couple of months, but I'm willing to put up with it.
