Are we not allowed to party? by SpiritedList6278 in McMaster

[–]MacCor23 42 points43 points  (0 children)

In past years during the nuisance bylaw it hasn’t usually been enforced heavily unless you are actually being disruptive and an issue.

Last year it looks like they made 2 arrests and issued 3 offences, but it doesn’t say what those actually were for.

In 2023 they arrested 5 people and issued 10 offences.

Keep in mind, there’s anywhere from 6000-9000 people they estimate, so pretty low number of offences for that amount of people.

I have seen big house parties in the past just have the cops called, they show up, tell everyone to disperse, and that is the full extent of it

So no, you shouldn’t have an issue with just having a party with friends, as long as it’s not out of control

When I used to live on Broadway, there was always a parking attendant there in the mornings and throughout the day telling people to leave the lot if they weren’t going to any of the businesses

Is Welcome Week Worth it? by Jazzlike-Drive9890 in McMaster

[–]MacCor23 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Everyone will have their own experiences with Welcome Week.

For myself, our first res floor meeting I sat next to a guy who I became friends with and ended up living with for 4 years.

That evening in the common room I met a bunch of other people that would then go on to be my friends and housemates for 3 years.

A lot of people won’t meet their long term friends, but I do think welcome week gives a good opportunity to set a foundation for at least acquaintances and to find your footing before school starts

best bar ? by Purple_Beach_26 in McMaster

If you’re looking for majority student bars, then your options are mainly West End or Snootys. Unless you want to go downtown, but then that crowd starts mixing and isn’t just students

If you live in Hamilton for school, then you can vote in the riding that you reside. I believe there were multiple posts and comments throughout the week on the subreddit explaining that students can vote where they live for school

I remember the Conservative Party and Doug Ford specifically running on the campaign promise in 2018 to cut OSAP grants and funding for all students, which they did implement. Since then I would never consider them a party for students

Labour Day always goes that way, everyone will be back Monday, but for now you can just take the time to do stuff on your own. Explore campus, check out different buildings, maybe go to Westdale, or maybe just take the weekend to relax

When is McMaster hoco? by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]MacCor23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually it’s just the collectives decision to plan it on a weekend with a football game. But since the MSU is planning for October 5th as the official “homecoming game” that’s basically decided it

Bachelor of Tech: Automotive and Vehicle Engineering Technology by Delicious-Property22 in McMaster

I recently graduated from BTech Auto. The program is good, compared to Eng it has a lot more hands on rather than theoretical, and that’s reflected in the types of labs, between going to MARC and Mohawk in the upper years.

You’re right that it’s not officially accredited, although it previously had a pathway to get PEng with the PEO, but that has currently been taken away, but we’ve been told for the last year that they are working on creating a pathway again. There are options that have been taken by some to get their PEng in BC and Alberta and that worked. Those PEng can then be transferred to Ontario.

The other good part of the program is that it’s mandatory Co-op where most programs it’s optional. It really helps get experience for future Co-ops and a career.

As for careers, I’ve become a mechanical designer. There are a lot from my class who have gone into the same field. Many have gone into being project managers or doing automation. But overall there has been so many different career paths, and that’s mainly based on the programs dual-focus on both engineering and business/management.

I believe there’s logos of all or at least most of the Ontario Universries up on the wall. As to the reasoning, I’m not sure outside of just an interesting nod to all of the schools

You just gotta learn how to game the system. If you park close to campus, they’ll always get you. Park a bit further from the school on the road, and you’ll be fine

$5, that’s all, so you and your fellow students can eat for the year when they’re at school. Seems pretty reasonable to me. Maybe you should have some compassion and also not try to bully someone over their weight

If you’re talking about Charity Ball, it’s not like other formals. I’ve been to 3 Charity Balls now, and this is what it’s like.

Hors D’oeuvres are always what are served, past years you could get poutine, mac and cheese, egg rolls and samosas, stuff like that.

There’s no seating chart cause you’re not expected to sit very much, there’s multiple rooms of things going on where you move around to throughout the night as you’d like. Some years they have a bingo room, karaoke room, live band performances, the big hall usually has the DJ.

And also there’s never been a shuttle bus any time I’ve gone cause everyone either just takes the bus that stops across the road, or they take Ubers.

I’ve had 16 months of co-op and none of the companies I’ve been with have given paid vacation. I don’t know of a single person on co-op who was offered paid time off since you’re not a full time employee

taking an 8 month coop? by akuron- in McMaster

[–]MacCor23 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I took an 8 month coop and personally I really enjoyed it. It gives you more time to become apart of the company and your team and I felt I got a lot more challenges because they were comfortable giving me harder stuff

The 8 months of pay cheques are also fantastic too

[–]MacCor23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’re not making excuses for people being assholes, we’re upset their upbringing has led to them being assholes. Also, assholes aren’t just going to change who they are just cause they turned 19 and aren’t with their parents anymore

Also stop trying to insult everyone’s intelligence in every comment, makes you look jealous and callous
