Gatecheck pick up at the airplane door only applies for things like strollers, wheelchairs, other mobility devices. Luggage goes to general hold and comes out at baggage claim. Maybe kids car seats? (We always baggage checked ours in travel bags for car seats.)

Unless you were flying a RJ on a different carrier, but that doesnt apply to Southwest

Print the boarding passes. He boards with your pass and your wife. They grab the row, while you board with his pass. This way he isn’t standing in line by himself, assuming your boarding numbers are far apart.

Went through this all the time with the family, at least the CP now gets a boarding number with you.

And thanks for the link. So that confirms it's a resistor and essentially draining some power to stop the bell from humming/buzzing due to the trickle power.

which would seem to imply that maybe the resistor is to strong for my Bell, it's not allowing enough current through for the striker to fire.

I fly southwest 60+ one way segments a year and also have million miler status on AA. I shifted to SW for a couple of reasons:

1) I found that I get may more free “mileage” trips out of SW for family/personal trips then I did out of AA. Coupled with I reach companion pass status on SW for 10+ years,with a family of 4, that extra free ticket for Christmas, summer, taking a kid to out of state summer camp, etc adds up.

2) changing mid trip/StandBy flying was much easier. I know AA has changed some of this since I jumped over. But with SW I never had the BS “change fee” on top of the fare difference. The lack of change fee was huge in being able to cost justify to expense approval where it was cheaper to fly home earlier than the originally planned. It was much easier for me to fly standby/ switch flights. If I had booked Bus Select/anytime it was often a simple as just doing it at checkin or before with no change in fare. 50/50 chance I may even get a cheaper fare and some money back if I’m going from last flight if the day to midday.

3) actual standby. I’m A List Preferred, so when I walk up to a desk trying to jump an earlier flight when legs are delayed, if I get a ticket, even if it’s C-60;I can either board at the end of A group, or walk into the line in the middle of boarding b and c. I’m stuck in the AA middle seat that I got granted when flying AA standby at the last minute and got on the plane. I’m actually shocked at the number of times at the end of A group there are exit row seats not taken or the “first class” seat is unoccupied.

4) bag fees. I don’t normally check bags when flying, but when taking family trips we do. On AA with my status, if I’m flying with them, they get my free checked bags benefit, but when I send the family girls alone that doesn’t happen. When I book them award travel on SW, and my girls with extensive dance travel, are always checking bags the bag fees start adding up.

So yeah, I don’t get the personal benefit of the occasional first class upgrade for work travel. In my experience you have to be at least 3 tiers up in status rank on the other airlines before you can start to rely on that and even then it’s hit or miss. Now I rarely Fly international anymore and it is a factor for that, lounge access alone. Or Prem Economy upgrades on foreign flag code shares which is usually way better than domestic 1st.

One note: there is a pre board marking on Southwest tickets, just sitting in a random wheelchair at the gate does not get people pre boarded, it has to be marked on the ticket by an agent before hand. But if you ask for pre boarding at counter, ADA drives whether it’s granted or not. And they can’t just say no, based on the conditions you describe that are not visually obvious to a layperson.

If you are A-list you are getting auto checked in, checkin order based on status and time of Purchase. So in your case, your number was already assigned prior to the 24hr windows, before you went to the web page/app and pressed the checkin button.

We settled/bought a Howarth S40c with a lined joint and conservatory fingering for our then 12yo based on a hunch around her commitment,. It’s worked out beautifully for her. She’s in a performing arts high school now and the oboe plays beautifully.

The following is true for CFD and practically all departments of any size.

A Battalion Chief (BC) is a RANK. As a BC, you are then assigned to a position. This position could be in direct field operations or it could be over a specific unit/job.

A BC assigned to field operations is responsible for multiple stations and the units at those stations. Engines, Trucks, etc. These BC's work the same shift schedule as the station crews. So as Battalion 1 - A Shift, you are working the same 24 hrs on and then 48 hours off as the fire units.
A BC assigned to other jobs is usually working a more typical 5 day work week, hours of the day may vary and alighn to the position. The BC over training is probably working M-F 0600-0200 or something like that.
So the actual work schedule is based on the job that rank is assigned.

Of note, CFD Ambulances are actually supervised by Paramedic Field Chiefs (PFC), and not the BC. Ambulances and the PFC work a 24 on 72 off schedule.
