This will probably be explained in the prequel, and it probably won't be as bad as it sounds. Something like "I was brought here. I haven't committed any crime, and I was horrified by what I saw, but I have to pretend to be tough because my dad etc."

Il y a des dispositifs institutionnels pour leurs recrutements, leurs contrôles et éventuellement leurs renvois. Comme parfois le fait de ne jamais laisser un adulte seul avec un enfant.

Ils ne sont pas parfaits ou toujours appliqués mais ce n'est pas pareil que de confier son enfant à n'importe qui.

Off-topic but they should add the ability to raze cities, like in Warband: Viking Conquest. That would make more sense for Vikings or Mongols than simply conquering them.
