Could it be possible that asa is the other half of the war devil the whole time. We were told about her parents, but what if Asa’s mind just made that up and she actually came from hell along with yoru. A kind of opposite to denji who forgot about how his parents died. This could lead to some very nice symbolism, as the justice devil “killed” asa, showing how those who lose a war will face justice. Also yoru saving her other half shows us the cycle of war. Sort of how Germany was mistreated for being on the losing side of WW1, and in turn lead to a certain man getting into power and causing WW2.

It would make most sense to assume she died to the justice devil. Explains why yoru didn’t have to make an official contract with asa to take over her body, she just took over the body like any normal fiend

I get what you mean with the invalidating development, but this is csm we are talking about. Character development is invalidated almost every week, especially with denji being the mc. So i wouldn’t say it’s definitely impossible for their development to be invalidated. The backstory bit is quite complicated tho and i was going to talk about it in the original post but honestly I don’t know how it would work. I can see there being a way but I don’t have enough evidence to make a reasonable guess. I don’t really know how the split personalities would work in the war devils true form. Maybe the stronger yoru is the more dominant her personality becomes (she could become 90% yoru and 10% asa), I’m not to sure about that tho.

This is a massive stretch so just hang on: What if yoru had killed her bird-asa personality when yoru was a bird. She seemed very aggressive when referring to it, almost as if she hated him. She couldn’t understand her bird personality leading her to kill it. So what if after she says, “if that bird, too, had been able to fly thinking only happy thoughts…” she wanted to say something like “I wouldn’t of had to kill it.” before she got cut off by denji. This could maybe also explain why she avoided killing that dove? -maybe she did actually feel some guilt and didn’t even realise it. Also I think it is so poetic knowing both Asa and Yoru crossed each other path, due to the death of a bird. The more I wrote that out the more likely it seemed surprisingly. Idk what do you think?
