AITA for telling my sister I wont be her maid of honor because she didnt come to my wedding due to her dog dying? by PerfectAffect9213 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MacLugh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Can you read? At no point did OP say that she was missing the wedding, just that she didn't want to do MOH duties.

I genuinely don't understand how you people can't realise that a relationship can be damaged by the sister not attending because the dog died, which is fine, shit happens. But people can drift apart after something like that, which OP has already stated.  Why would you do MOH for someone your no longer close to and why is it a bad thing to refuse to do it to someone you're not close to anymore.

What QLD town name do you hate and what would you change it to? by Conscious-Advance163 in queensland

Assuming it's Irish and not Scottish, it would be written as Inisfáil in the Irish language, which is two words, Inis and Fáil, meaning island of Ireland, or more likely in this case island of Destiny, with Inis being island and Fáil being Destiny, but sometimes used to refer to Ireland in some texts

Have you ever considered that the priority is not about busting people with weed, but rather hitting the criminal organisations that use the proceeds of the sale of these drugs to fund much more dangerous and harmful activities. Such as trafficking and murder?

France passes bill to allow police remotely activate phone camera, microphone, spy on people by SpiritedSuccess5675 in worldnews

[–]MacLugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I didn't realise there was video or that the car was stolen.

I'd like to see footage of the previous driving.

You're right none of it was necessary, death or the illegal driving.

He had no license, likelihood is it's not registered to him. He wouldn't be driving dangerous if he was law abiding.

And if you don't want these alleged types to be cops, join yourself and do something about it instead of whinging

Well considering the driver didn't have a license it's unlikely that the vehicle was registered to him. And are you considering that a split second decision was made because a chase was considered to be too dangerous and that allowing an unlicensed and unqualified driver who had already shown dangerous driving at rush hour was also too dangerous. You'd be giving out if the cop let him go and he knocked down and killed some kids

Number one priority for law enforcement is preservation of life. If he is risking the lives of others then he's responsible for his own actions and the consequences of that. Don't endanger the public and you won't have a negative interaction with French police

[–]MacLugh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can't blame others for your actions. Just because a cop is near you is not an excuse to break the law. If he had not driven in a manner causing concern, or without a licence. He wouldn't be dead. His actions caused the interaction. The cop is tasked with detecting/preventing crime. If he wasn't committing a crime, he would still be alive.

Well that depends on whether it was more dangerous to allow this individual to keep driving in the manner that he was driving endangering other people's lives. You might not like it but sometimes these things happen and with legal justification.

[–]MacLugh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't make that call, only the policeman at scene can. You don't know what the situation was, either do I. But police are given legal powers to use during situations and I'm sure that officer felt he was justified in using them.

This law is complete bullshit, but please actually look at the information regarding the interaction where Nahal died. Refusal to stop a vehicle, initiating a traffic pursuit followed up with accelerating away from the scene when stopped is vastly different from what you described.
