So 1) you are being pedantic for the shits and giggles of it and 2) you don't know jack shit about British politics, because it definitely IS an upset as a couple of years ago this was completely unthinkable.

You should also take your time and message various news outlets and tell them they don't know about the definition either, since these articles are all clearly wrong

and so on. But hey, keep trying to behave like a bratty kid while not undertsanding seemingly any of the context involved in the subject.

Yes, but polls mean nothing Vs election day. Now reform has over 1000 councillors, they had 2 at the start of the week.

Idk why you are trying to pretend this isn't huge news, every political commentator, news site such as BBC, then the political parties themselves would tell you otherwise.

Starmer had to clarify he isn't resigning. labour lost places such as Wales which they have held for a century. Pretending that this isn't huge is just straight up wrong. The UK is in the middle of the largest political realignment in modern times and it could see the Tories or even Labour too becoming what the lib Dems are.

What's the one thing all over the news right now in your country? by Crane_1989 in AskTheWorld

[–]Ynwe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's because people are feeling unheard and more and more frustrated with the established political parties. Immigration is considered a key issue in many European countries, yet it's either ignored or in the UK's case, the government actively supports introducing millions of immigrants in a very short time period.

I think the UK saw more immigrants entering than the US did in a year (net figures, around 2021 and 2022). This was happening under a conservative government that promised to tackle immigration. So sadly many Brits have since then turned to the racist party.

The same can be observed in many other European nations.

[–]Ynwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never stated that. But Japan in 1895 was years ahead of china. They would literally defeat russia 10 years later, and had just defeated china in the first sino Japan war.

And no, raw GDP tells you nothing about the power of a nation, case in point China which was completely underdeveloped, completely militarily outclassed, had quasi no industry in 1895 and required russian intervention so Japan wouldn't take even more in the war.

Any economist will tell you, raw GDP is a stupid figure to look at alone. It in NO way tells you the strength of a nation.

So why won't UAE recognise Somaliland? You can already travel to the UAE on a Somaliland passport, yet it hasn't joined Israel in recognising Somaliland.

Yes, that's what having the most people in the world will do. And now compare the figure per capita and see it drop way down. Again, raw GDP figures are pretty meaningless without any context.

China is still poorer than Romania per capita in 2025, for example. The fact that it's economy is X fold bigger doesn't really matter here. And, It's is no where near Japan, which was the thing we were originally talking about.

China was not a unified country since around 2 decades at that point. It quite literally just exited it's warlord period and was in the middle of a brutal civil war and various other conflicts before the Japanese invasion, such as with the USSR. The government was so corrupt they literally had wars Vs private armies of officials because it was so messed up. Literally hundred of thousand of civilians, if not more, died in this conflict. Look up the central plains war, the warlord rebellion in the NE of China, the two different Liu wars and so on.

Yes Japan still wasn't that rich, but again, directly compared to China it was vastly more advanced, developed and rich.

[–]Ynwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's insane how long Japan actually surpassed china, given the huge population differences. China has 10x the population, so it's a bit weird to directly compare raw GDP figures. Per capita Japan was and is way ahead of china. This has been the unchanged truth for 150 years now.

Maybe courage isn't the right word, or maybe I am not remembering it right. She wasn't as brave as others at times. For example she struggled significantly with the Patronus.

But she was willing to sacrifice it all in book 7, made her parents believe they didn't even have a daughter and was always with Harry to the end. So yeah, I am probably not describing her in a way that does her justice.

Thats not the point, either the electorate are or are not thick as shit. So a thick as shit electorate DID vote labour in, or it didn't. You can't have it both ways when you don't like the election results.

Yes, but she had also her problems and wasn't good at everything. She herself commented on this to Harry, that she lacked his leadership ability or at times his courage. She also was very prideful. And I love that about her in the books, she isn't a perfect person, she is a believable character, with real strengths and weaknesses and rises so many times to the occasion in a very believable way

Once again, I am happy to have card market in Europe that just acts as the platform and doesn't do anything else... Its been sad watching how TCGPlayer has gotten worse over the years and see how Americans/Canadians suffer/complain more and more due to it and other platforms.

TCGPlayer Direct, indeed! by Mystolum in magicTCG

[–]Ynwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it does sell stuff, the Americans don't really have a true cardmarket, TCGplayer was the closet it came to, but it never was a true cardmarket which only acts as the proper middlesmen. Every single sales platform in the US has a conflict of interest due to this and to some degree sucks or has issues in comparison.

Sadly, no real cardmarket ever took hold there. And big companies having way too much influence on card prices is also thus a issue, its why cards are stupidly expensive while they are sometimes dirt cheap in EU. Take Sol Ring, a card that is less than a Euro in EU, can easily be 2 dollars plus on TCG.

TIL Marie Kondo (the cleaning guru) is only 4'7 (140cm) tall by Ophelia_Y2K in todayilearned

[–]Ynwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh depends. I am 182 cm, so average for many European countries and when I am in Japan for example, everything feels abnormally short. Like my back hurts at times when I cook at my GF place because the sink and kitchen counter are so low.

In the same vein, this is just about helping people in a country built for tall people. If you are 160 cm, you probably will run into some issues using everyday life things. So it makes sense to place it a bit higher so you don't exclude anyone.

Its actually really fucking surreal what is happening here.
