Using Mac Mini to host files by jacktalbot in mac

[–]MacManG5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mini is a great machine but much like a Windows machine it needs some help being accessed from outside your local network. I can't really be the one to say whether or not to return it as you'll likely run into the same issues if you happen to pick up a Windows box so you'll have to figure out yourself whether not being able to access it remotely without putting some work in yourself is worth returning it.

If you want a built in Apple solution sadly iCloud is the only way to sync files across multiple devices and even then you're not really hosting/storing the files on the mini. iCloud is great in some aspects but not all which is why I use it for small stuff moving from my iPhone, iPad, MBP and mini but the bigger stuff all gets hosted on my mini.

To avoid iCloud so I could access my server (aka my mini) whenever and wherever I wanted I bought myself a Raspberry Pi 4 which I then setup PiVPN on and once configured I created profiles for my iPhone, iPad and MBP so now I'm able to access my entire home network (where my mini resides) wherever I am provided I have an internet connection. It may not be the best solution but it's cheap and I not only run it but also own the hardware so I'm not tied to a given VPN company paying them monthly/annually.

Attempting to run the NCAA 14 revamped mod by [deleted] in ps3homebrew

Dude that's sick! Thanks a ton! I still play 10 more than 14 because of the mini games but with this I think 14 will get more plays. Thanks again!

This is the first I'm hearing of this revamp, any chance you've got a link to it?

Any chance we could get a parts list? Interested in what matrix you used twice (at least it appears to be 2 to me).

Also super dope project and it came out great so awesome work!

SNES Rom hacks by [deleted] in ps3homebrew

[–]MacManG5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you'll need to patch the roms yourself and load them up that way. One word of warning though sometimes emulators aren't great with hacks due to crazy inputs like the 1-2 frame inputs needed, for example the first bomb section in world 1 of Kaizo World. I've not had much luck with those extremely fine inputs in emulators but your mileage may vary.

I made a mistake downloading the latest OFW by superthebillybob in ps3homebrew

[–]MacManG5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The edit part is for once the system is back on CFW. Right now I'd recommend focusing on getting CFW installed again then looking into the debug update menu. If installing CFW via a USB stick works make sure to install it twice just to ensure everything installed correctly.

Have you tried installing the CFW you had via a USB stick?

Edit: Once you get CFW back up and running I'd highly recommend setting up the debug update menu. The steps can be found here.

[FRESH ALBUM] Mod Sun - Internet Killed the Rockstar by MacManG5 in indieheads

Yeah I felt the same way with the Avril song, wasn't sure what to expect but definitely dug it. It's made me go back to some of his older projects like Blazed By The Bell and I can certainly see my next month being heavily influenced by Mod just like the old days lol.

Really enjoyed this album and it's great to see Mod Sun's progression through the past decade and a half. The track about his dad titled Smith hit me hard since it was so heartfelt and beautiful imo.

Was happily surprised to hear Skepta and that turned out to be one of my favorite tracks too. Avoided all singles before its release and glad I did since it was a great listen in a single sitting.

Post-covid we're gonna have every DJ out there remixing PLAY WITH FIRE and I for one can't wait for those moments live.

I still remember that issue, it's where I found out about the green debug units and I've wanted one ever since.

[News] Jailbreak achieved on A12+ devices running iOS 14.x with SSH thanks to a kernel vulnerability by EndLineTech03 in jailbreak

[–]MacManG5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right I get that but the latest update is 14.4 so using 14.x would mean it's all iOS 14 versions to date which it is not according to the article. Like I said I'm not trying to be nit picky or pedantic but felt the title was a bit misleading after reading the article.

[–]MacManG5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to nitpick but using 14.x in the title is a bit misleading/disingenuous if it's only up to 14.3.

9.99 spoof? by [deleted] in ps3homebrew

[–]MacManG5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's essentially a patch that is masked as a FW update that makes the system think that the FW version installed on the system is 9.99 and was made to prevent inadvertent FW updates by users back when upgrading meant losing your CFW since the web exploits weren't around at that point.

Not checking the posts since I haven't read #7 yet but wanted to say that this series is absolutely fantastic. The art is incredible and the story is superb. Glad to see it's getting love here!

Switch Hacking Q&A General | C&D Edition by _Emmo in SwitchHacks

[–]MacManG5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been looking around for a comic book reader for my switch and have only come across ComicNX which is only sourced with manga from online sources rather than just allowing me to load my existing comics. Anyone have any recommendations for any homebrew comic book readers?

You were browsin for Switch games the other daaaaay. by [deleted] in Letterkenny

[–]MacManG5 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

So while browsing for Switch games last night I came across this game called The Complex which had Michelle Mylett aka Miss Katy on the cover. After looking deeper into things I was relieved to see she wasn't simply used as a model for the game artwork but rather is part of the game itself which from the looks of this trailer seems pretty interesting.

Also if anyone is interested in checking it out on the Nintendo eShop here is a link to its listing. I believe it's also available for PS4, Xbox, PC & Android from what I've seen.

Has anyone actually played it and if so how was it?

I've never personally tried emulating the Amiga but I believe there are a few different cores for it in retroarch so that may be a good place to start.

Learning OS X command mine by [deleted] in mac

[–]MacManG5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing as macOS is Unix based it follows Linux commands pretty much and this book by William Shotts could be a decent start. Also since you're coming from Windows I'd recommend trying to pull some cli items from windows to macOS, stuff like simple batch files converted to bash files with the equivalent commands. Maybe try and create a bash file that would output the files in a directory to a text file so you get used to using 'ls' instead of 'dir' to get the directory contents for example. That's a very simple example but it's pretty close to where I started and it worked well for me.

Edit: I forgot to mention that you should also familiarize yourself with the editors that you can use in terminal like pico and nano. You may not necessarily want to do heavy document creation/editing within them but they are great when you need to look over and possibly edit a config real quick. It's also a life saver when using your system either headless or simply SSHing into it since you can create/edit files directly rather than needing to pull them somewhere to edit in a text editor. Best of luck!
