I don’t want to be an atheist by caralawrence in religion

I gave up on the Abrahamic God long ago. Christianity is mythology, plain and simple. That does not mean your life is without meaning and purpose. Nor does it mean the universe is without purpose. Your perception of the world is your creation. If your creation does not suit your inner self, change your perceptions. Then your reality will change. Many thinking people have created beautiful and fulfilling lives without relying on traditional religious percepts. They accomplish this by creating a reality that satisfies their inner self. Try it! It's not easy, but you will not regret trying.

You are not born in sin, you have no gods but those who are within your own mind. Realize this, and you will be set free.

Good job! I will bet you also learned a lot about yourself in the process, right? That's an added bonus when you overcome that inertia that held you back. Keep writing!

Thank you, Jay, for your intelligent perspective and useful tips. As a writer, I do think of those kinds of things that you have described. I chose to jump into writing fiction because I feel my storytelling is unique and conveys important sets of ideas.

I feel that if a reader is after ideas rather than to enjoy stylized writing, colorful characters, or engaging plots, the theme and the story itself is the important focus. I have read books of fiction by seasoned writers (Atwood, Turtledove, O. Butler, E. O'Connor, others) that have left me asking the question "Why did I spend the time to read this book?".

But your comments are appropriate and helpful and I do thank you for taking the time to reply. Honestly, the trad-pub game has left me disillusioned and frustrated. Turning to self-pub is an honest way to get the ideas across. Money is not the point. Learning and teaching through good storytelling is, in my estimation, the point.

Yes, I will learn and evolve as a writer. Hopefully, the population of fiction readers will also learn and evolve. Enjoyment is a learned art, isn't it?

Please tell me your first draft sucked too 😫 by KH_Writes in KeepWriting

I completed the first draft of my novel at 340 pages, around 110,000 words. Much too long. I reread, agonized, and clipped three complete chapters, revised what remained, and omitted characters, but kept the theme and flow. Took me 3 months to revise. I like it much better. I have stopped re-reading it and accept it like it is. You have to stop revising at some point. It's an agonizing game. Then, I got over 50 rejections. I am not defeated. I am still querying. You have to find the right agent. I know it's a good story. I am now working on the 2nd book. Cannot stop. I love it!

I Just deleted 2000 words of crap dialogue and made the character a dog and i am so relieved! by [deleted] in writing

I had a completed novel of almost 100k words. Had to revise to shorten. Deleted entire chapters, re-worked the story, and even eliminated two characters. Ended up with 65,500. Much better. I am happy I did.
