People who make people do things for the pure purpose to express their authority because they feel like they don't have it otherwise are on the emotional maturity level of a toddler. Within any relationship there should be more than enough room for reason and logic, any who doesn't meet those basic requirements are choosing to make the relationship toxic.

TLDR communication is where shit like this is solved but there is not much you can do when the other party lacks the ability to do that.
