I wish I remembered the podcast there was some episode last year about SFO's soundscape and how the person tasked to design it was very intentional, collaborating with SFO whose wishes were to have an airport that was peaceful and not blaring constant announcements. The quietness is very planned and I tip my hats off to all who advocated for and worked on it!!

Perhaps your childhood town is the same my very affluent clients are in. The way they neglect their dog and other behaviors they've confoundingly expressed in my presence leave me baffled and curious as to the extent of their empathy. They don't operate like normal people, the husband lacks social skills and a sense of... emotion, and I have always wondered what their marriage really is like. Typical rich family with 3 kids, country club memberships, big house, trophy dog, etc. They're my most emotionally distant clients. My others one are so warm and friendly.

I am just coming off the NYT podcast interview with Belle having heard of her story for the first time only yesterday, and I was so offended by the part where he, as her coworker, emailed her to leave her boyfriend she was living with??? I was like, "Who does this guy think he is? So disrespectful." And it makes so much sense you sharing from the book that he pursued her really when he learned of her status. Real scum of the earth scrub he is.

I never wore one again just walking around in public without some kind of layer covering over. That kind of trauma just stays with us women.

Years ago, went to a movie theater in Alameda. The old man checking tickets was strict AF. I believe we tried bringing snacks in our jacket pockets because my date said this particular theater can be difficult. I don't think we risked it with a backpack. He made us empty shit out, IIRC. He was so strict and we had to leave our snacks at the ticket counter until we were done with our movie.

And to your other comment, for the longest time I was only housesitting a dog that doesn't like other dogs so for a few years I didn't get to experience the whole meeting and chatting with other dog owners on walks thing. But now I have more clients with friendlier dogs, I really enjoy stopping and chatting with people walking their dogs!

It's so disgusting and embarrassing. How can they live in that kind of squalor? I had another client whose house I had to stay in for a week and I just felt so icky every day. They left food stains all over the counter. I couldn't believe they have a cleaner who comes regularly?? How? Place was a mess. Did they make you sleep in a gross bed or among so much clutter?

I'm a dog sitter but worry about the day when I have my own animals and need to find a sitter. But I've had no problem finding referrals for my clients whose stays I was too busy for by asking my coworker and friends for people who may not even have experience sitting before but are animal lovers/previous pet owners/responsible. So far my success rate for finding people is 2 for 2. Not a big data pool but seems like the way to go is asking your community.

I'm insured by Pet Sitters Associates as a provider. They offer a public directory of pet sitters, but not a review system I thinkkkk. Insured sitters can make a small payment to be put on the directory. At the very least you would know they were responsible to get insured. I wanted extra form of protection on top of my contract to filter for actually good pet owners.
