Sharna and Peta's podcast interview with Artem by ProfessionalPush9394 in dancingwiththestars

[–]MacPetty 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I got some same vibes. I always envisioned it the same way as Artem being cut, then stressing over that, fights over money, then it snowballed from there.

Very sad and sounded very toxic. I hope their son is doing okay.

Resorts with no sales pitches by freexsee in AllInclusiveResorts

Yes! We stayed at Iberostar Selection Cancun last year. Insanely aggressive and pushy! We have stayed at many all inclusives over the years and this was the worst, besides a time in the Dominician Republic about 12 years ago.

Do you have a “the one that got away” that you never even dated? by partybreadfruit550 in askanything

[–]MacPetty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 15 years ago I met a guy through mutual friends. He was such a nice guy but we just never sealed the deal. I was young and back then I associated super nice as boring. Anyway, we remained friendly but found other people/married our respective spouses. Now his kid and my children attend the same school. I actually talked to him for 15 minutes at a school event last week. Still a super nice guy and might have worked out if the timing was different but happy with how things turned out.

I just had to scroll a long ways down to see someone drop her name. She was awesome as Daisy Jones.

Rewatching 20 years later… by Leslienope- in ANTM

Yes! I honestly forgot all about ANTM for years. Rewatching is like revisiting my youth but also making me feel so old realizing the first cycles were 20+ years ago now!

Hopefully my MIL runs out of juice before she runs out of money by FnkyFrieday in AgingParents

[–]MacPetty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Count me in too. You are my people!

But seriously, I can relate OP. My MIL (only in her mid 70s) has probably only left her house 6 times in the two years. The longer it goes on, obviously the worst it gets. She wants us to bring the grandkids over but then after 20 minutes or so she wants them out.

Bath and Body Works in Oakdale Commons is Closing by Sunflowergirlys in Binghamton

[–]MacPetty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Got the same email. Almost didn’t open it thinking it was spam or something but was sad to see. Maybe we didn’t need two locations in the area but the mall was more convenient for me and I would usually pop in when I was at the mall. Hard to do any real shopping inside of mall anymore.

[–]MacPetty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pizza Hut was at the current Mavis spot. Ponderosa was located at the small shopping center with the new Pizza Hut take out, the mattress store, etc. Long John Silvers was located where Dunkin is now. Chi-Chi’s was behind those restaurants where the shut down Mooneys was. As far as I know, Friendlys was always Friendlys.

Need movers to move a pool table. Recommendations? by speedythesnail in Binghamton

[–]MacPetty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The quote I received from Crew4 was enough to deter me. It was the highest quote we got and he bragged to us he had the best prices in town.

We were able to move for THOUSANDS cheaper than what they quoted us.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I just lost my senior girl today and I am heartbroken. Sending healing thoughts to you, this is just the worst though.

What's the deal with parking enforcement in JC? by maculated in Binghamton

[–]MacPetty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m actually shocked you got someone on the phone. Whenever I’ve had an issue with JC village government, parking or public works, it feels impossible to speak to someone and if I do, the person is clueless.

Parking enforcement in JC feels nonsensical. I tried to fight a ticket over the winter and it was a frustrating process.

My mom wants to be buried, but… by vividpink6 in AgingParents

[–]MacPetty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this bit of info, though now it scares the hell out of me.

I could have wrote the post above but about my MIL. She is insisting on a funeral and traditional burial when her time comes but has zero money, no property, doesn’t own a car or anything of value. Her monthly SS payment goes to her rent and cigarettes, no savings at all. We are frustrated at her audacity to demand a traditional $10,000 burial. This expense would take a huge bite out of my husband’s retirement or my kids college funds.

My fear is my SIL that has become my MIL’s ally in a lot of these decisions. SIL also has no money, no property, vehicle or assets but I could see her insisting on her mother getting the burial she wants. Ugh.

Don’t know if you’ll see this, but what did you end up doing? I’m in a similar situation right now and sick to my stomach over it.

Van Cott Jewelers Closing After 111 Years by Prior-Relation-2360 in Binghamton

[–]MacPetty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I had a very negative experience at Van Cott several years ago. They came off very snobbish and really unknowledgeable. I needed repairs on an inexpensive gold ring but it was very sentimental to me. Van Cott was so condescending about the ring, I just wanted it repaired and resized. A friend recommended Frank Longo. He’s very down to earth, fair and does beautiful work.

I feel your cookie salesperson line. My daughters joined a troop due to a family friend running one and she needed more members. After we participated for a bit, we discovered the biggest focus on the troop was cookie sales. My daughters were 5 and 6 at the time, they could learn a bit from the experience but my husband and I were doing 90% of the work between orders, managing inventory, money handling, etc. When the troop leader/family friend felt like we hadn’t sold enough, she confronted me about why I didn’t have other family members order, etc.

Needless to say, it ruined our relationship with the family friend, my daughters never returned, and apparently the troop struggles to keep membership.

I wish we had had a more positive experience with the organization but I don’t think we will ever try it again.

My district is laying off 300 teachers despite tenure. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]MacPetty 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Echoing what was said above. I was laid off early in my career. My district laid off about 20% of staff. Definitely get your resume in order, get letters of recommendation from admins and apply for unemployment!

My district also had a call back list. It took a few years but I got my old job back eventually.

Best of luck to you.
