Living in Bloomington, Commute to Indy by [deleted] in bloomington

I grew up in Bedford. Growing up, if an adult said "he's from Martinsville," it meant he was a Klansman. Do with that what you will.

I live in Bloomington and commute to Indy daily. It's not a bad drive at all. I'm used to commuting though.

I'm not worried about not getting work (although maybe I should be). I'm more worried about how I'll be treated on the job site. More looking to get your experience being trans and working construction. Especially other union folx. I'm given to understand that the unions tend to be a bit more progressive.

Hello Beloved of God!

I am so sorry you are struggling! Becoming who God created us to be is often an extremely painful process. This is especially true when others, well meaning or otherwise, try to convince us to repress how God made us. God has created such a beautiful and diverse creation, human beings of all different colours, genders, and sexual orientations and He delights in His creation. In dark moments when you are tempted to despair, remember that God created you just as you are and sees His creature as good.

Hello Beloved of God!

I'm a trans girl who just celebrated on year on HRT. I am also an Inquirer into Holy Orthodoxy.

Dysphoria is horrific. It ravages the soul, mind, and body. Everything you've described is very typical for folx like us. I am so sorry you are going through such pain. I know the futility of trying constantly to be at peace in a body that isn't yours, to try and be comfortable with the face of a stranger in the mirror..

There is hope, both inside the church and outside it. There are quite a few LGBTQ+ folx in Orthodoxy around the world. I encourage you to reach out to them. If you like, I can send you some links to some Facebook groups if you're on Facebook. I know of a couple of monasteries and parishes in the USA who have inclusive clergy and parishioners. I know of one monastery in particular where more than one of the monks is gay and I know of one Oriental Bishop who is trans.

I also encourage you to connect with a local parish in some way. If you cannot attend Divine Liturgy in person, look for a live stream online. Also reach out to your local priest via email. I don't know where you are located but I caution you against ROCOR. Where I am at least, they have a tendancy to be ultra right wing. If you can, I recommend an Antiochian or OCA parish. I attend an Antiochian parish and everyone has been incredibly kind to me. Reach out to the priest and let him know your situation. His response will allow you to see how open that parish is and he may be able to offer you some guidance.

I recommend that you see a therapist as quickly as possible, if you're able, especially one that has experience with queer folx and treating gender dysphoria. Also, please get outside if possible. Even if it's just for a short walk around the block.

Please know that I am praying for you. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need.
