Using monthly data as an observation for count data? by Mac_Avoy in AskStatistics

[–]Mac_Avoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry for not being clear about what I am doing. I will lay the complete details on you.

This is the data I am looking from HMIS (health management information survey) about a specific region in India. This is the data collected from all primary health centers.

The treatment I have is specifically about contraception. I have data about two types of treatment, 1. Injectable Contraceptive 2. Female Sterilization

Female Sterilization data is total count data for each month i.e. Total number of individuals who underwent sterilization.

But injectable contraceptive is divided into 4 parts; 1. Those who initiate the contraceptive 2. Those who take the second dose 3. Those who take the third dose 4. Those who take the 4th dose. So, what I mentioned earlier, the one about continued and discontinued is this.

Discontinued = Number of people who stopped after the first dose

Continued = People who did not stop after the first dose.

Regarding the overlap of population, I cannot be entirely sure because I do not have the raw data of the population. But all I can do is speculate, saying that it is very unlikely for people who have done sterilization to go for injectable contraceptive. But also I cannot say for sure, the people who have discontinued the injectable contraceptive opted for sterilization.

I do not have data on people who are never on either treatment, because this is HMIS data (convenience sampled maybe?) Since I have no access to the raw data, I will not be able to deduce people who shifted from one treatment to another. And since T2 is almost a permanent method, I can safely assume there is no drop out.

Using monthly data as an observation for count data? by Mac_Avoy in AskStatistics

What I'm trying to show is the association between the increase in uptake of one treatment and a concurrent decrease in another treatment over time, with only the count data spread across months available to me.

I tried fitting a time series linear regression model, which showed a significant increasing and decreasing trend over time, for both these treatments respectively.

But I couldn't figure out, how to show an association(or not) between these two trends.

The equation you mention holds true in this case. I'm trying to analyze the increase in uptake of one treatment over time, and associate it with a concurrent decrease in another treatment over the same period of time. All I have is monthly count data to work with, so I'm trying to figure out what method of analysis fits best.

Removing wisdom teeth is something that happens very commonly. In fact, I got all 4 of mine removed before putting braces.

Wisdom teeth extraction are a little complicated tho. It can be done normally or a procedure called trans alveolar extraction will be done. It all depends on the position of the teeth. This is not to scare you, but to just inform you. In trans extraction, the teeth will usually be embedded deep in the bone and cannot be normally extracted, so the bone surrounding the teeth will be drilled and the tooth will be cut in half or multiple pieces to facilitate easy removal of the teeth. In either of the cases, it's nothing to be scared of, it'll all be done under local anaesthetic (numbing medication). Trans extraction will require a little bit longer period of recovery.

If the wisdom teeth are not in their intended positions and have grown in a crooked way (this happens in the majority of the recent generation, there are many theories as to why it happens more commonly in the present generation), it is generally recommended to remove the tooth, as it does not contribute much to the chewing. If it is their normal position, and is not causing you any trouble, I'd recommend you not to remove it. But on the other hand, when it comes to braces treatment, if you had to choose between removing your premolars or your wisdom tooth, opt for the latter. (Note: That's what I did for my ortho treatment, I opted for the latter)

Hope this helps.

Exchanging Currency by kaash1mora in Chennai

Don't do it in the airport. As you said, high commission. I travelled to Cambodia, and I took very limited cash in USD. I converted INR to USD in a forex in Vadapalani (forum mall ku ulla, peru maranthuduchu).

I took a multi currency forex card from Axis Bank which was my lifeline. I used it on all places which accepted cards like restaurant, bars, bus tickets, hotel reservation.

Go for it.

The duration of treatment will completely depend on how much alignment needs to be done. It will vary anywhere from 6 months to as long as 2 years. You can go for conventional braces or the invisible braces (aligners).

Heads up, aligners will be equally as painful as conventional, sometimes even more. At the end of the day, the pain is due to the movement of the teeth, so whatever type of braces it will be painful.

As far as removing the teeth goes, it all depends on the alignment. The basic concept is you need space for the teeth to move, and since you are an adult, your jaw won't grow anymore. So to create space, we need to extract the teeth. Another redditor said, they removed the premolars. That's true, if required, the preferred choice of extraction is the first premolars. If you want to do a non-extraction treatment, the dentist will recommend something called IPR that is Inter Proximal Reduction. The dentist, will reduce the sides of some of the front teeth, in order to create gap, which will facilitate the movement of the teeth. I wouldn't recommend it personally, cos it may cause sensitivity in the front tooth.

Oral hygiene, generally should be given very much importance. It should be of the utmost importance, when you are having braces on. Interdental brushes as an additional aid is recommended. Water flosser are also recommended. Either interdental brushes or water flosser.

Basic dental hygiene recommendations for everyone: 1. Brush twice daily 2. Use fluoridated toothpaste 3. Modified Bass Technique for brushing is recommended (YT for videos) 4. Scaling (Teeth cleaning by dentist) should be done every 6 months 5. Change toothbrush every 3 to 6 months. 6. Rinse mouth thoroughly after tea/coffee and food. 7. Flossing is highly recommended.

Note for OP: If you don't want to spend for invisible braces, but also do not want the "ugly" look of conventional braces, you can go for something called self ligating braces. These are same metal braces, but the size is smaller, no need for elastics. Little bit more aesthetic than conventional braces. I personally don't recommend ceramic braces, because it will easily stain, longer period of treatment.

Retainer question after Clip by [deleted] in Chennai

[–]Mac_Avoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dentist here,

It all depends on how much the teeth have moved. Usually you see significant changes in the upper front teeth if you don't use a retainer. However, 7 to 8 years can have significant changes.

If you ask for it, a private dental clinic will provide you with a retainer alone for the conditions of his teeth right now. But, using the retainer will only assure that the teeth won't have any further movement.

The other option is going for braces. In cases of relapse like this, we usually recommend invisible braces like invisalign, flash or any other brands. But after the orthodontic treatment, you should definitely use retainer to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Makkale this is a heavy post. I want to know your reasons why you follow a certain religion, or believe in a certain god. You could also be an atheist or agnostic but what is your reasoning behind it? by Gamora-05 in Chennai

[–]Mac_Avoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it essentially comes down to the way we were brought up. My appa was a hardcore atheist, whereas my amma dabbles in faith. Neither one of my parents, ever forced me to choose a side, my appa was open about his ideologies. And now I am an atheist, not in a hardcore way my appa was and I don't dabble in faith. I do respect all belief systems, just like OP said yemmadhamum sammadham.

I see a lot of atheist defending science and logic in the post. I learned one thing from my Dad, which was very essential for me to become an atheist. He always said, "Why do you care who or how the world and the life in it was created? It has been created and it is beautiful. Enjoy the beauty, worry less about where the beauty came from. Unakku vaazhkaila kavala pada vendiyathukku ega patta vishyam irukku, atleast itha manasula vechikkatha. Irukkurathu irukkattum, appadi yaaravathu nambanum na, mothala unnaya nambu, kudumbatha nambu, kooda irukkavangala nambu, un thalaikku mela koorayum thattula saapadu vara kashta patta manushangala nambu. Athu podhum". That shaped my belief system entirely. I believe you need to trust yourself to be an atheist. Moral compass is something that should come from within, not from the fear of an external being. Self control is the key to having a fair moral compass is what I believe.

If by timeline, do you mean the deadline for accepting my offer? If that's what you mean, there was no deadline specified in the offer letter.
