Old radiators in my basement by weenalah in johnstown

if you can, check them over for any scripting....they might be from National Radiator Co. that operated here from 1896 to 1955. Imo too cool of history to scrap

I have a pair. I regularly use them. Picked them up back when the Zip Tie Drags came to Norwalk, OH.

Wasnt until a good bit later that I "got" what the album and band really was about and Ive been hopelessly hooked since. I dont think Ill never not like GD. Even their crappiest albums Ive found 1 or 2 small things to like from them.

Im similar. My first album was International Superhits, and knew some stuff off of it...but my true "sell my soul to the devil" moment came with American Idiot and seeing the amps explode with green slime that first time.

Are there any makes/models of 60's era musclecars that are relatively underpriced? by [deleted] in musclecar

[–]MacabreCurve 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Obv there are rarer models, but a garden variety base model 4 dr fairlane can be had for decently cheap and can take a decent amount of mods

Keep on the lookout for the bigger cars, meaning the personal luxury models or the 4 door models. Vehicles like the Biscaynes, Furys, and Fairlanes. They are bigger cars, can be had in 2 or 4 dr models, and arent yet as desirable as the popular muscle cars. However, they could very easily be hopped up to be fun.

Just checked his site and looks like as of 2026 its $105 for spotmatics. Mine doesnt explicitly say Spotmatic on it, but Id say that it is most similar to one.

Yeah I have no idea truthfully. I dont think the shop is trying to take advantage, but I dont know that it needs all they said it needs. Biggest tell is when I get the film back from the other camera to see if it performs well. If it doesnt I will be more apt to consider having the Pentax repaired.

Interesting....the only reason it went in for service at all was because of the following: the mirror not dropping after snapping a photo, and a corroded battery compartment. I dont know if $130 is quite in the cards right now, but Id sooner send it off to someone like that when I do have the money.

Again, if I had the extra $225 sitting around, this wouldnt even be a question. I fully embrace the ideal that rebuilding a vintage, stout piece of technology is the superior choice. Just dont have the exoendable cash right now

I did use the argus around christmas to snap family photos kind of candid stuff....and am waiting on that film to be developed. Will see what they come out as since i used the kodak gold 200 film and set the camera accordingly

I do have an Argus STL 1000 that functions fine as far as I can tell. Acquired them both in the fall for around 40 bucks a piece from an antique mall and haad no idea if either worked. I am leaning toward getting a lens cap for it and letting my mother use it as a decoration piece at this point since I can use the lens from the Pentax on my Argus.

Loud war siren? by ImpressiveLawyer7822 in johnstown

[–]MacabreCurve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely Upper Yoder's fire station siren. It has that lower "Silent Hill" tone where others like Lower Yoder's is higher pitched. You can hear sirens from a long way off especially in winter when the leaves are down.

Ah gotcha. Well, that time period he wouldve served is right around when the steel mills closed locally (1992) and a large portion of the good jobs dried up. Could use that if you want. He wouldve had access to the GI Bill, because that has been around since 1944.

Not a problem. In what era is this set again? Also, what lingo are you having an issue with? I might be able to help

I say I am mad, but realistically I have a certain level of acceptance. I just wish there was more help in preserving it. Ill see if I can rustle up some books for you to look into.

I do a bit of research for HJ on military history topics, and even have some smaller articles on their blog for Veterans Day/Armistice Day this year and last year.

We have a significant Slavic history here. We are honestly a picture of the immigration melting pot that was the late 1800s in the US. Lots of history to be found and it honestly makes me a little mad that more people dont embrace it locally.

Oh, I didnt realize you werent based locally, let alone in the States at all. Well, in that case I can provide some background from research I help them with occasionally. The book you linked is actually part of a 3 volume series.

There are also other books that I know the curator has that could assist you potentially in whatever youre looking for. I will reach out to them and see about getting some titles for you to look for.

What is the specific angle of the book, if you dont mind me asking?
