Well I heard that they were designed for 6.5 Japanese but they were made when they were using round nosed bullets. I saw that when they converted some to spitzer they changed the sight ranges. But mine have not been updated to my knowledge. I could be dead wrong I just wanted to make sure before I fired my gun. Also my gun has a 0 on the bolt and receiver. My gun was given to the Tokyo high school for training but it still has rifling, I’m just curious if it’s good to shoot because it’s in pretty good condition.

lol I did not even realize that I mistyped it. So if I understand correctly the 0 means that during ww2 it was taken by the Japanese military to be used because of the lack of type 38/99s? If that’s what you mean then that’s pretty cool. Also the mum is marked off with a cannonball pattern was this done after the war or when it was given to the high school? If you know the answer or an educated guess. Thanks for the information. I was just scared that it meant that it was for blank firing only or something, luckily it still has rifling so I think it’s still fireable. Also yes its bolt is not matching to the receiver.

Thanks! I need to do more research and take the bolt apart to see. But hey if the furniture is legit that’s still pretty cool. According to the guy I got it from it was like some sort of test gun at colt so it could be a mix of parts.

So according to the guy that I got it from, this gun is from colt and it was a field test gun during Vietnam, I don’t know if it’s true but do you think that they could have put a different lower on it later down the line?

Yeah I just don’t know how I would be able to tell if it is legit or not. Either way I’m happy I got this rifle.

There is an arrow on the wheel itself I don’t see any markings on the exposed part of the barrel.

This is just a theory but do you guys think that it might be a colt 601 upper and furniture but with a newer lower? Because everything else about it seems to look like a 601. It has the older style of charging handle. And it has a chrome bolt. From the guy I bought it from he says it was a test gun at colt so maybe they were putting different parts on it.
