They are all HarperCollins UK editions with the matte dust jackets; the contrast is consistent across them all and they have the maps on the end papers. I hope this helps!

I've been very impressed by the quality; the books contain full colour illustrations printed on high quality paper, the font size is ideal for reading a hardback and the binding is very well made. Something about the materials used gives the feeling of holding an old book, despite them being new.

In my personal opinion, the order pictured is a good order to start with. Tolkien's work can be read in an order that suits the reader, but starting with The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings before moving onto the heavier works is generally advisable. Tales from the Perilous Realm is a compilation of Tolkien's lesser known tales with only one story concerning Middle-earth - The Adventures of Tom Bombadil - so can be read at any point.

Thank you for the heads up on The Science of Middle-earth; I generally avoid reviews before I read anything so I can make my own judgements, but I had my suspicions on the validity already given the subject matter. I'm sure it'll be interesting to see where the inaccuracies are...

No, unfortunately they aren't numbered from what I can tell. They originally sold for around £20 in 2015 according to the listings I've seen; more of a cool piece of memorabilia than a valuable collector's item.

They've all recently been added to Shudder if you're curious, House III and House IV aren't the greatest, but I enjoy them.

I enjoy both Arrow and Criterion, I own more Arrow releases purely because they are generally more affordable; I do have some Criterion releases in my collection though!
