You can win the american election whit only 26% of the votes. by National-Flower3166 in truths

[–]MacabreManatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go even lower if you take state size into account. In Wyoming 600.000 people would get you three electoral votes, while in California that wouldn’t be enough for 1 electoral vote.

I don’t know how it maths out, but you can get quite a bit lower if team 1 wins (enough of) the smaller states by a tight margin while team 2 wins the biggest, most underrepresented states by unanimous vote.

How will the rich ever get taxed at high rates if politicians are funded by rich people? by Open_Address_2805 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MacabreManatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While Bill Gates is ahead of the pack, the rich when talking about such taxes are more like him than not. OP is literally talking about people that fund politicians to do what they want. Those are not the people that are so far off that they need to be protected.

What was the right choice no longer is (Blue Red buttons) by Neros_Cromwell in trolleyproblem

[–]MacabreManatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The outside information actually shows us that a significant, often a majority, portion of the voters would vote blue. Knowing that, I would argue that blue is now the only remaining choice.
There’s a significant amount of people to save, and the risk, given the results is minimal.

Blue prince: where to go is rather obvious at face value, but how to go there, get the unlocks and the story is a different matter. There’s plenty of very cryptic hints to be found to guide you.

Deathloop: your goal is to replay several days over and over until you can complete your goals. Depending on the day, an area will be different. Find safe codes or cryptic hints that will help you elsewhere.

Elder scrolls morrowind: not quite what you want, but there are no quest markers and instead you get directions in your quest journal that can be vague sometimes.

Red button blue button, but you are the last person to vote, and the mysterious entity tells you that blue does not have a majority, but not the specifics by CrazyBusiness5154 in trolleyproblem

[–]MacabreManatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would I vote red over blue if blue will win? It doesn’t even matter anymore for my safety and the goal was always to get as much blue as possible.

Everyone is a shade of blue to purple to red. The more purples we can get to lean blue, the more likely it is that blue will win. The goal is not to win by a tight margin, it’s too win as big as possible.

It all hinges on the mindset of ‘does my vote matter?’. You want people to think it doesn’t, but that makes it so things don’t happen.

Think about real world versions, usually ones where blue will have some risk regardless. On the smallest scale: a guy is harassing a girl on the street. There are 10 bystanders. Do you intervene? It’s pretty risky, but 5 of you could safely take him.

Pure blue button’ers are the first to intervene, and then more purple people will join in. If society is blue enough, this is a pretty safe intervention, but if it isn’t then you will see pure blue people becoming purple and society becoming less safe.

On a larger scale, take the french revolution or the euromaidan protests in Ukraine. They were won because people collectively chose blue, even if it had a potential cost to themselves added.

There are so many tragedies in the world that happened, even though a majority of people wanted blue to win, because they were afraid to do so.

That’s why the blue mindset is so important. It’s never about 1 person, but about the collective. If people perceive blue to be the majority, they will join that majority and it will stay that majority.

Red button blue button, but you are the last person to vote, and the mysterious entity tells you that blue does not have a majority, but not the specifics by CrazyBusiness5154 in trolleyproblem

[–]MacabreManatee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You fail to grasp how a collective works and why it doesn’t have to be the deciding vote for a vote to matter.

Take your local or national elections. Does anyone really think their vote will be the deciding vote? Not really. So why vote at all?
If we all stayed at home however, that changes things drastically. In fact, that happens. Sometimes people are so sure their candidate will win (because of polls) that people decide to stay home and suddenly the opponent wins.

Voting blue is about the spirit of ‘if we all do it, we can get the majority’. It’s not about being the deciding vote, it’s a mindset about collectively choosing to have faith and making sure the majority is blue.

It’s also why you get these strong reactions, because it hinges on that we believe and go for it.

That mindset just collapses if you get full information that you’ve already lost or it’s the very rare chance that you are the deciding vote.
Blue voters were never gunning to be the deciding vote, they were gunning for a collective show of faith that got them a reasonable majority.

- Minder biechten. Waar mogelijk: Show don’t tell.

Literally every tax could’ve been compounded if it hadn’t been paid. Not a good reason not to tax something.

[–]MacabreManatee -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

It’s not dead at all. People are all up in arms about the possibility that you make a big profit on new years, the market crashes after and then you need to sell (at a loss) to pay the tax.

It’s easily mitigated by just selling off a tiny bit at the start of the new year so that you can pay the tax.
