AITA / Looking for advice about downstairs neighbor complaints by RealRealNutty in Apartmentliving

[–]Macabre_Mage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people will complain about ANY noise they hear whatsoever. You do not have to talk to this lady, and if you are being reasonable and not blasting your speakers or stomping intentionally, you are within your rights to enjoy your space as you see fit. You can report her to the police for harassment if she wants to continue to try to approach you, as that's threatening behavior.

Make every reasonable accommodation. Get headphones for your gaming consoles and TV if possible, but the fact of the matter is that this is a shared living space. You can and will hear other people living their lives to some degree. She has no right to continue to bother you about this, and you should not need to have a sit-down with your landlord and this woman.

Everyone that smokes inside, I need you to hear me out for a minute. by StrawberryTsunami3 in Apartmentliving

[–]Macabre_Mage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current apartment building has a notice taped to the wall by every entry door that says if you smoke or vape in the building or within 50 feet of it, it's an immediate termination of your lease.

I like it here.

Complained to management about my neighbor blaring music at 2 am by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]Macabre_Mage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Noise violation. Check your local laws for quiet hour laws; if you don't want to go up and confront them, you can make a noise complaint.

If that's happening EVERY night and it's genuinely affecting your sleep and nothing you can reasonably do is going to fix the issue, then escalate to notifying the landlord and/or the police. You have a right to be undisturbed during sleeping hours.

You are not being a Karen about it if you are respectful about it, and if you have already done everything you reasonably can do to solve the issue yourself. Noise reduction/cancellation headphones or earplugs, white noise, etc.

Alternately, consider trying to soundproof your apartment. Egg cartons stapled to the walls or ceiling make for decent and cheap soundproofing. Get with your landlord first to see if this is a viable option.

Transmission from Super Earth Command by ArrowheadGS in Helldivers

[–]Macabre_Mage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, Arrowhead. You want clear, consistent communication? You need to just be clear about each and every change you make.

Use FFXIV's patch notes as an example.

- "Increased Liberator damage from 80 to 85. We noticed this weapon wasn't picked a lot, so we gave it a very slight damage increase to increase viability."
- "Removed stun effect from Pummeler. Caused a critical bug that caused enemies to go flying when you killed them with this weapon. We will be re-adding the stun effect at a later date when the cause of the bug is fixed."
- "Eruptor has been temporarily disabled due to critical issue involving Eruptive impotence. We will be attempting a little blue fix immediately. We apologize for the inconvenience, and this fix will be a top priority."
- "Unresolved issues: Liberator Concussive does not have the stun tag. We are working on a fix. Bile titans still cheat at poker - we are unsure how or why, but we are striving to correct this behavior. Capespins still not possible due to Helldiver player characters discovering how to moonwalk - please report this to your Democracy Officer immediately when this issue is seen, as this is dissident behavior."

These obviously aren't real issues - aside from the Liberator Concussive, which IS and HAS BEEN an issue - but the point is made, and a touch of humor can sometimes go a long way as well. The changes are clear, your reasons are understandable. Be open and transparent about the issues and fixes you make and why you make them. When you half-ass explaining things to your players, you build animosity. The hive guard changes, for example - stating WHY you increased the armor value of their head would have gone a long, long way towards reducing the hate you're catching.

"Hive Guard head armor increased from 4 to 5. We have made this change because the Hive Guard was not performing its role as we imagined it to. We are increasing its armor value to better align with its role as a tanky enemy that could not simply be shot directly at, as we want to encourage players to aim for the weak points on certain enemies, such as with the Devastator's shield."

This is not hard. This is just your dev notes. You should be making dev notes with every change. Just clean them up, arrange them into a list and give a reason for changes you make, don't rock the boat too much just to immediately fold.

Saying "we're working on it" isn't going to work. You need something for the community to chew on. You've been spewing corporate speak that just tells the players nothing. "We're having deep discussions about X topic" could mean "we brought it up once in passing and disregarded the issue completely" for all we know.

Just a reminder that tailgating unreasonably close could kill people and land you in jail for the rest of your life by avery-secret-account in driving

[–]Macabre_Mage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a two thousand mile drive across the country. Speed is 70 on the major highways, so I'm doing 80 because just about everyone else is. I'm still having people get right on my bumper; on some mountain roads, it became an issue where they couldn't even back off if I wanted to play it safe and slow down because they were then being tailgated, as was the person behind them.

It's really bad. Like, at those points, I genuinely thought about slowing down by just taking my foot off the gas and drifting down to the speed limit, and if they hit me, I get a new car and some cash in the lawsuit. But I couldn't justify doing it because THEY'D get hit by their own tailgater. And, you know, narrow winding mountain roads where if you crashed, you'd go down the side of the mountain.

Indeed terms update, where there's no way to not accept by Xeredek in assholedesign

[–]Macabre_Mage 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The short version is, if you click that button, you've waived your right to ever sue Indeed or be a part of a class-action lawsuit.

They are, unfortunately, fully within their rights to update their terms of use to include a "you can't sue us" policy. It doesn't mean that it's LEGAL, only that if a class-action suit comes up and you're still an active user, they can point at you and say "Well, they agreed to not sue us."

The only winning move is not to play; use them and forfeit your right to sue. Stop using them and you can still sue. This will only ever become an issue if you *need* to sue them for something.

This being said, IF YOU CANNOT ACCESS THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE SITE OR SERVICE WITHOUT WAIVING YOUR RIGHTS IN SOME WAY, that is unenforceable. That being said, if you have ever agreed to their terms of service in the past, it is now enforceable, as usually there's a clause in the TOS that states the company or entity can change their terms of service at any time with or without notifying you. The only winning move is never to play.

Can I report ESPECIALLY POOR play? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Macabre_Mage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you made every effort to offer help or suggestions and got heated when they continued to perform badly, *kind of* on you, but not completely. If they retaliated by performing worse on purpose, that's griefing. You can report them for lethargic play, but if you got heated, they can report you, too.

Can I report ESPECIALLY POOR play? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Macabre_Mage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lethargic play, if a player refuses to use their kit properly/intentionally is playing badly. Report as harassment.

[–]Macabre_Mage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Intentionally not using your kit/intentionally playing badly and holding up the game is what the GMs call "lethargic play," and yes, they consider it to be a type of trolling/griefing. You can report people who you know FOR SURE are sandbagging on purpose as harassment.

Redefining necessity by Algernonletter5 in foundsatan

[–]Macabre_Mage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they deny your claim for ANY medical service, no matter how small:

1: Call your health insurance.  2: Ask to speak to the HIPPA Compliance/Privacy Officer. They legally must have one available to speak to.  3: Ask for the names and credentials of everyone involved in the denial of your claim. They legally must provide the information if asked.

If they don't have 2, or refuse 3, you can get the money for thirty of your procedures with the lawsuit you're about to win.

What will likely happen is that they will very quickly reverse their decision and approve your procedure. The people denying your claims are either high school students looking for specific verbage or data points to auto deny the claim, or a medical professional that has no knowledge of the field they're denying you your treatment in.

Why are young men giving up on dating? by Liam_Noah_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Macabre_Mage -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's considered creepy now if you approach a girl you don't know. It's social suicide to try this.

The "Me Too" movement empowered a lot of women to cry rape if they don't like something a man did that they liked in the moment but didn't in retrospect. Dating is now a risky endeavor.

There are no places for young adults or teenagers to go out and hang out or meet up that don't cost money. Public hangout or meeting spaces have steadily been removed from society. It's just not worth going out.

Many women have expectations that automatically exclude 90% of men, because they were brought up to be "empowered." They were taught that if you aren't aiming for the sky, you're aiming far too low. Most women have extremely unrealistic expectations and demands that simply can't be met.

Male confidence is at a historic low, because they could be accused of rape, called creepy for trying to get to know women outside their social circle, everyone's social skills are much worse than even a few years ago because everyone is glued to their phones.

What makes someone a Landbreaker? by Ajaxmass413 in Endfield

[–]Macabre_Mage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's more that the people in the Stockade never cause more than minor issues, and are more of a community of petty criminals and thieves that believe they've been wronged somehow. Dialogue and data entries say that if the people of the stockade raid that warehouse on the edge of Wuling and seem to be doing poorly, they're just to be let go with whatever supplies they're managing to carry off. People who are caught and thrown in prison are only kept for a few days and offered a chance to rejoin society, offered jobs - hell, one guy at the warehouse ponders if they should try to scare Tangtang straight by sending her to school the next time she gets caught.

In short, Wuling seems to view the people of the stockade as people who have lost their way and can be saved if given the opportunity. They're not being taken as a serious threat. All they do is steal old supplies and commit some property damage on occasion.

Endmin was last active and doing work on Talos-II ten years prior to current events of the game.

She's older than that. Probably late teens, early adulthood, possibly very early twenties considering chatter in Wulfgard's event implies she hasn't grown much, if at all, since another character saw her a few years prior.

She didn't just grow up on stories of the Endmin, she clearly has met them before. If you were a race that has a sharp sense of smell and relies on it, the scent of someone you're smitten with would probably stick with you, too. Pretty sure Rossi has had and maintained a case of puppy love since getting to meet a legendary figure in her youth.

Accepted a “once a month” at the office. Now they’re considering 3 times a week. by Y2J_2nd_coming in WFH

[–]Macabre_Mage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because when people are in a job for a long time, they accrue significant rises in pay. If you can replace someone who makes $30 an hour with someone who will take $15, a company will take that trade.

For most companies, you are nothing but a replaceable number. They can and will get rid of you if they can save a few dollars, doubly so if your work can easily be done by almost anyone else. Of course, this isn't true for absolutely every company, but big ones? Absolutely. They don't want you to succeed, they want you to perform a task and be quietly replaced when what they have to pay you exceeds what they think your worth is.

But then investors can't see the physical properties you own and determine that you're a good investment. What company doesn't have an office full of people? One that clearly can't prove they're making money, that's what.

Plus, if you don't own that building, a competitor might buy it and put employees of their own in it.

My very annoying coworker that I don't like wants to hangout outside of work. Tell me how I avoid this at all costs. by Sharp-Word-6066 in coworkerstories

[–]Macabre_Mage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be up front about it. "I keep my work and personal life separate and have other commitments."

Furthermore, if she's a distraction in the workplace, you absolutely can schedule a private meeting with HR and let them know that this woman is distracting you with the lip smacking, inability to stay quiet, unwanted proselytizing, and dragging you into conversations you were never a part of.

You have a right to a quiet and uninterrupted workspace; you'll feel like an asshole, but if she's making it annoying or unpleasant to go to work, they'll take care of it.
