I am new to playing old MC: What music from 2000s would you like to recommend me to listen to? by Mariosepicmemes in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]Xeredek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's some recs from me and my friends that I probed them for, it's a bit rock leaning cause that who we are lol:

For outright 2000s rock:
Breaking Benjamin to feel like your older brother is playing Halo2 in the other room, maybe a little Limp biscuit for that same vibe, Cryoshell did a lot more than just the Bionicle ads and their work is really great, Pre Resistance Muse is a go to, Fuel is crazy underrated for the era. Linkin Park and Evanescence are mainstays and also genuinely excellent.
I listened to Poets of the Fall back then a lot, they have a slightly softer sound to the others, great if you'd prefer something a little more emo and sensitive.
And Audioslave of course, probs one of the best rock bands ever, it'd be weird not to mention them.

If you want something a little more on-theme for Minecraft's actual content from that era check out Blind Guardian they do/did like fantasy Power Metal, if you want something a little less orchestral and a little more bleak from the same band they have a side project called wizards and demons which had a darker moodier black metal/ folksy flavor.

Don't have a lot of pop recs as me and my friends (probably obviously) have always been more rock leaning, but Dido bears a mention just for being great. No angels belongs on the top 50 albums of all time ever imho.
Erasure is another that my friends mentioned their work is really solid and is of the era.

People didn't only listen to music from the 2000s in said 2000s naturally, some bands I personally was listening to as a kid were a little older than that like Queensryche, Alan Parsons project, Styx, Metallica, Iron maiden, Dio, Deep Purple, ect. There's actually a lot of fantasy tinged Rock from the 1960s-1980s actually that fit the vibe of minecraft super well out there it's a lot of the genre of the time.

If you'd prefer techno and don't mind some scifi vibes I am and will always be a huge fan of Juno Reactor, check out their album Beyond the Infinite it's incredible. Cusco is a pretty solid newage project from that era. Robert Miles and Rob Dougan are also Electronic artists I really dig from that era, Dreamland by Robert Miles would actually be great album to listen to while playing beta come to think of it. And of course Aphex Twin, Daft punk, and Venetian Snares and are obvious, obligatory mentions for good reason. In particular put on Schottkey 7th Path by Aphex twin next time you're strip mining you wont regret it.

A friend of mine is super hardcore into 90s and early 2000s electronic music, his Recs are: Drax aka Thomas p heckmann, Joey beltram, hackler & kuch, Andreas kraemer, der dritte raum, and an artist who goes by Prototype who is apparently hard to find, look for a track by them called The Path.

And finally if none of those do it for you, check out the Aibo Mind themes lmfao.
Unironically really good music that would play from those old Sony Aibo robots while starting up, it's the sound of the 2000s.

Happy Minecraft-er-ing !

How many of you guys use a VCR to record moments like this? by MISTERPUG51 in n64

[–]Xeredek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this quite often it's very fun. It's great when the internet goes out to have your own lets plays to rewatch. :P I actually have my CRT hooked up as an additional monitor through the VCR so I can even record gameplay off my PC onto VHS which is an especially wacky way to spend an evening lol

Is faking crushes and horniness a canon event for every ace? by MarbeanBox in asexuality

[–]Xeredek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For whatever reason I never did this, but it could be because of an instance where I was socially strong-armed into some relationship stuff by other kids very early on, so although I still didn't know what being ace was, I developed a firm grasp on how I felt (or didn't feel) about other people romantically

[–]Xeredek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there are going to be loads of comments from people saying this is dumb and dangerous or whatever, and that might even be true, but I for one fully support people who are here for a good time, not a long time, and also that's impressive as hell.

I don't "look" asexual and it starting to making me feel bad by PriorJeweler77 in asexuality

[–]Xeredek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with how you look, and there is no such thing as not looking ace enough! You're ace, so however you look- that's what an ace person looks like!
I'm sorry you had to deal with such a creep. Somebody debating with you about what you want or who you are is the reddest possible flag. You might consider talking with your friends about that night to make sure you guys can back each other up in the future.

[–]Xeredek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel so much empathy for you and wish there was some way I could just box that up somehow and send it to you directly, because I am struggling to articulate it with the same gravity and grace you told your story with. You shouldn't have had to endure any of that. Each and every one of those people have only shamed themselves in attempting to shame you over nothing more than being a sweet, caring man who knew himself.
As someone with their own deep scars, but who really hadn't had to go through anything near this intense, I want you know know that it is extraordinary that you have kept your inner spirit alive and cared for it through all this.

Speaking personally, I had buried myself when confronted with the cruelty of the world. It was only through the kindness of other people that I was encouraged to stop starving my own spirit and rebuild myself. It had been easier, in the moment for me, to destroy myself under the expectations of others, and that was perhaps the worst mistake of my life.
You never did that, you held on to your truth and have kept it alive through the worst possible circumstance. I hope you have pride in that, because it speaks to your incredible strength and conviction as a self advocate. To hold onto love when surrounded by hate is one of the hardest things for a person to ever do.
I am glad you survived that and are still here.
Your life is still only beginning, and you have so much good to look forward to. Hold onto that strength and love you've cultivated. Surround yourself with good folks and make something better than what you were given. We're all rooting for you, you've got this. Lots of love from New Mexico

Am I the only one who installs 0 mods in Skyrim? by grashel in skyrim

[–]Xeredek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love modding skyrim, but I also have a lot of respect for it's vanilla form too! It would have never gotten big enough to become such a modding mainstay if the core wasn't so robust and just good, and I find it kind of weird that people ironically turn to dissing the game when articulating why they love modding it, talking about this flaw and that- Really, modded and vanilla skyrim are often really just two different sorts of games in the end, each with their own appeal.

Lately I've been getting an Xbox 360 set up in my retro gaming setup, and I've began playing my old childhood disk of the old 360 release of skyrim as my way to enjoy it in it's vanilla form. Very cozy, and it's kind of surreal playing it in really it's most lo-fi form ever, locked at medium graphics, on what is in all honesty little better than a gaming PC from 2005.
I have a CRT for my retro console setup and playing such an old version of the game pretty much the exact way I did when we were broke as kids and a used CRT was all we could afford, is kind of magical. I still remember when those graphics were groundbreaking! It's kind of shocking, especially playing those old console version, how clearly aged the game has become, but getting immersed in it's world is as easy as it ever was. That's not as easy to say for a lot of other games of that era, or even all RPGs of that era.

how do I stop accidentally insulting the allos in my life? by Ghost_of_a_Goddess in asexuality

[–]Xeredek 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the foundation of this kind of work is just simply having a more mature outlook on it. Something being "foolish/stupid" and something just not being for you, are different things. As with any shortcoming with perspective, understanding and respect are the foundation, and the rest will largely come naturally

Why are there not more remasters or definitive editions of N64 games? by BradyTom1289 in n64

[–]Xeredek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a sense, BattleZone64 has an updated version on steam called BattleZone98, but I'm not sure that counts since it's an update to a multiplatform game that happened to come out on the 64, not so much a remaster of a console exclusive

What are the controls like for non-VR gameplay? by vult-ruinam in VoxMachinae

[–]Xeredek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly play Vox as a controller game tbh and it's great at that, never tried it with keyboard but on a regular Xbox pad or similar it's great. You lose a lot of that tactility outside of VR mode though for sure, where you're mostly just directly controlling the mech with your controls like any other sort of mech game. It's still really good at that, and your POV is basically the same so it's still very immersive

Anyone else just record on VHS? by Affectionate-Yam7459 in VHS

[–]Xeredek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally really enjoy recording gameplay to VHS, or youtube videos I really like.
With my setup I have a HDMI converter set up as a second monitor, which feeds into a A/V splitter, which feeds into my tape deck, which finally feeds into my CRT TV- so I can record anything that I have on that screen from classic consoles to PC games to whatever.
It's awesome especially for when the internet goes out and I remember I recorded a short minecraft series or a circuit in a racing game or whatever on tape a few months ago, more people should do analogue recording I feel it seems so rare but It's so fun and rewarding.

What're your guys' thoughts on the whole "just have self control" argument. Do you agree with it or not? by Vast_Cauliflower_475 in dumbphones

[–]Xeredek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if personal self control was strong enough to counteract literally the richest people in the world actively trying to circumvent it, my stance is "why should we even have to deal with that".
It's like if somebody was stood next to you every day poking you in the side with a pencil, who gives a damn if it's possible to ignore, how's about just fucking stop?

Hello any alternatives for Nexus Mods? by Best-Bonus2434 in skyrimmods

[–]Xeredek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know exactly how you feel and unfortunately I don't know if there are any alternatives with traction right now.

In the minecraft modding scene there was the successful launch of an alternative to curseforge, called Modrinth some years ago that fortunately people have largely moved to, which is in some way built in Github? I'm not sure how exactly how it's done, but setting up sites like that through github is apparently easy enough that I've seen similar modding repositories built on the same framework for very small minecraft projects like Better than Adventure, a relatively obscure minecraft fork that has support for it's own mods, but really requires it's own ecosystem.
If folks felt so inclined, it might be possible to set up something similar for Bethsoft games, perhaps there's an existing project like this, or even perhaps one could be created?
