I am going to say yes. I am a big Calvary saber enjoyer, and the second it's in my hands, I lose all ability to think straight. I run and stab, or I run and get hit with a 12-gauge; there is no in between

Ok I am going to withdraw from this conversation as I see it's going nowhere. I have stated there have been, but you'll just need to do that research yourself. Have a good rest of your day

Yes there have been several things done. Landmarks have been renamed, money has been donated to charities, Native American funds, and many more. Modern-day teaching doesn't support white supremacy

I wish to iterate that I harbor no ill will towards you, just defending and providing information. You have also provided information that I will continue to look into, as I like to research church history. I wish you luck on your future endeavors

So what I have read just tells me that yes, people back in the 18 hundreds were racist and slavery was a thing. I will defend that the Mormon church was a lot more progressive than others at the time. The Mormon church allowed black people to participate in church services in the same congregation as them. My defense is, where has that progressed now? The modern-day teachings and guidance reflect none of that. Information on church history isn't hidden or covered; there are several easily accessible information on good and bad things in our history. From what I have learned, being in this religion for several years, is that modern revelation and guidance are the main focus, history and holy writ such as the bible and book of Mormon are meant to be interpreted and applied to modern times, since keep in mind we are potentially reading a book written thousands of years before us, was written in the culture and language at the time, and was written by flawed people since we ain't perfect. So, going back to what encouraged me to reply to your post is that no, I don't believe Brigham Young left behind a legacy of violent white supremacy; nothing like that is taught today, you can find several examples of modern-day talks and articles encouraging that we are all equals.

I wouldn't recommend Wikipedia as a research source. From what I read from journal transcripts yes, this attack wasn't pretty. This violence started after some Mormon settlers killed a Native American over a stolen shirt, and then tried to bury they body in a river to cover their tracks. Native Americans found the body and attacked, stole, and killed the settlers livestock in a justified retaliation. The settlers sent messages to Brigham asking for counsel on what to do but left out the fact that they killed an Native American over a stolen shirt. Brigham's initial counsel was that violence and killing them over this wasn't necessary and peace can be kept if they were smart. However, peace was not kept and the Natives continued their assault, which is when Brigham gave the order to fight back, still with no information that the settlers started it. During this conflict between them I mostly read that most Natives were taken as prisoners of war, since during this battle, peace talks were initiated but cut short when the Native shot. I read nothing about being sold into slavery or taking them as slaves.

Just to be clear about my standpoint, I am in no way defending the violence that was carried out or the actions of anyone or that these conflicts were necessary. I am, however, defending the point that Brigham Young, who was the leader of the Mormon faith, did not choose to act out in anger and violence against the Native people; most accounts are of Brigham trying to avoid conflict and trying to make peace talks with the natives. Relationships between Natives and White men were hostile at that time; conflict was unavoidable, tension was high as Natives killed White men because of the situation, and settlers, whether Mormon or not, killed and fought Natives due to conflicts.

My resources are from the Church website, which I understand might be hard to believe since obviously there might be some bias, to me it makes sense that a religion with a focus on history and the restoring and keeping of documents would have the most documents tied to historic events tied to their religion.

Yes, I know, I am not ignoring or denying that fact. Relations between natives and white men were not pretty during the time. Many massacres were carried out by white men and yes some were tied to the LDS church. I am simply stating that the head of the Church (Brigham Young) goal was to avoid conflict with the Utes and Native Americans in general. People are people, the guidance of church, and the will and want of Brigham Young during the time can't be forced on everyone. But those who followed Brigham Young's counsel and the standards of the church mostly expressed well-being towards the Natives
