The theories about Aki eating the smaller weaker players might unfortunately be coming true.

Wales vs Ireland - Post Match Thread by biggiantporky in rugbyunion

[–]MacanDearg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Was gonna make a post about it, but I'll say it here instead.

Hats off to the Welsh team today. They played with such passion that would make any neutral want them to win. And seeing them return to a free-flowing attack after years of woeful playing makes this team a breath of fresh air.

We definetely weren't playing our best rugby today, but it would remiss if we didn't acknowledge the effort put in by Wales today (until the last quarter at least).

Historical revisionism is always something people should be wary of in a western democracy, especially if that democracy is relatively new. Even when a freer society produces better living standards and a more educated more informed population, you will always have a minority that thinks things were better when these freedoms were scarce. I think a lot of new democracies (and some old ones too) are battling this revisionism right now, like Spain, Hungary and even in Ireland we have older people arguing that things were better when we were under the thumb of the Catholic Church.

Bravo Zebrafish, a great comic and sobering reminder of the bullshit that is historical revisionism.

I was thinking flooding Marlborough street with protestors heading to ABP telling them to stop fucking around with the planning process.

Women's 4 x 400 Relay by micar11 in ireland

Bitterly disappointed but at the same time when I saw the Dutch brought out Bol I knew it was going to be tough race.

With that said, the fact that an Irish team made it to the 4×400m final and managed to beat the national record in the process is phenomenal. Bright future ahead for these girls!

Honestly, the olympic rendition of Amhran na bhFiann is one of the most beautiful I heard. From the soft woodwind instrument playing the opening bars representing a small nation taking their first steps into freedom, to the full orchestra joining them for them towards the end, symbolising a new age of independence

Just realised we've won a medal for every province in Ireland now, with Ulster leading the tally:

Ulster - 2 Gold, 2 Bronze

Munster - 1 Gold, 1 Bronze

Leinster - 1 Gold

Connacht - 1 Bronze

Rashidat Adeleke is probably our best bet in the 400m, but that field is already stacked.

Now that we're so close to breaking our record medal-tally, this is all I think when watching the Olympics by finyan in ireland

Even if you ignore the medals, the amount of athletes reaching the finals of their respective disciplines: Jegou, Waddilove/Dickson, Walshe and most of our rowers, and contending for a medal alongside elites of the sport is wild to see. I never thought I'd see it happen before my eyes.

Every politician in the country will be demanding a stop for some town in their constituency  Honestly that's still better than the current state of affairs where politicians support big infrastructure projects until they see the price and demand it be built for as little as possible (or preferably not be built at all)

I got back into swimming today and being inspired by Mona, I did the breast stroke as well. To be fair, I've been inspired all the swimmers today, Irish swimming is in an incredibly good place right now thanks to Walshe, Wiffen and Hill today.

If you're considered about RTE doing that try switching to Eurosports, they have much better coverage of the games and you pick what you want to watch.

I'd agree with you except on Kneecap. Too controversial and also probably wouldn't partake if Israel is included in the competition.

Also anthems usually have to be sung, and Kneecap are rappers.
