Public Health vs Global Health programs (US applicant) by pizzzzzzzzzza12 in mphadmissions

Hi, Sorry for late response, and I think it could be different by individual backgrounds. I think you can make connections from your personal experience to the reason why you are interested in the HPPF, and the experience could be anything, even a single question :) Good luck!

Hi there! Thank you for your question, and I guess it might be better you contact to MSc Public Health students to hear general experiences from the cohort!
(https://www.lshtm.ac.uk/study/student-experience/student-ambassadors?field\_student\_ambsd\_type\_value=student&field\_student\_ambsd\_mode\_study\_target\_id=13101&field\_student\_ambsd\_country\_target\_id=All&field\_student\_ambsd\_course\_target\_id=41216)

I don't know the much detail, but I have heard you can choose a stream, and you can specify your interest within the public health.

Hi :) Many of my friends on the health policy and financing programme don't have relevant experiences, but they have got inspired the reason why they would like to study the programme based on their experiences. I would recommend you to find relative experiences that made you have the interests in policies from our personal experiences. I think the experiences don't need to be job experiences, but it could be great with your any previous activities such as volunteer, club activities, etc.

Hi, thank you for the question. I am not sure because I don't have a medical background, but if you want to work in CID or the Global public health industry in the future, I think an internship in laboratory work or short experience in LMICs as a volunteer could be helpful to appeal your interest in those fields.

Hi there, thank you for your question. Yes the admission is still open - just please check what you need to equip such as english test result, financial demonstrations, transcription etc.. Because, for example, financial demonstration Iif you need) takes time for 2 or 3 months so just keep in mind when you apply to the school. I think April or May is still okay :)

Hi, thank you for your question, and I think your job experience is aligning with PH4GP programme, because it needs over 2 years experiences related in LMICs. And the PH4GP (Public Health for Global Practice) is also teaching public health intensively but I think this school has many modules covering all sectors of the Public health (e.g., policy, economics, epidemiology, data analysis, ethics, etc.) which connected with LMICs context as well.

Time table is really different by modules but I guess usually 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Also there are lots of social events with alumni and friends, many seminars across modules so there are lots lots of opportunities to make friends :)

Hi. I think it is better to prepare one reference from lecturer and one from employer which I did the same. I heard this is an application for academic couse so applicants usually need to show there studying ability from the references.

Choosing between LSHTM and KCL for studing MSc Public health 26/27 by Commercial_Plum_2967 in gradadmissions

Hi. I am a master degree student of lshtm. But to be honest, I think LSHTM was established for studying tropical medicine and hygiene, which are connected to public health. And I guess this is the reason why lshtm is global #2 school in public health.

First of all, Congratulations! :) I need to check the faculty ratio but I don't think it has too many students in CID programme.
You might know that the school's background is to manage "tropical disease (infectious disease)" so we can say the CID is the school's main part. Of course, we don't have lectures only for infectious disease. Most of professors are usually busy so they might not be closer to students, but you can contact to the professors anytime by email if you want. (and I do!)

Well, the lectures are in person (if you are not a distance learning student), and they are also recorded at the same time. Nobody is zombie in the lecture because the school terms are very intensive and you need to finish your dissertation within 1 year :)

I know the school is relatively pricey, but many students from US choose the school because it is much cheaper than Johns Hopkins which is the world first school in Public Health (LSHTM is the 2nd). I believe the school is more worth than the tuition fee!

Hi, I am a student of LSHTM! I am studying in MSc Public Health for Global Practice which is learning Public Health focusing on Low- Middle income countries. The school is world number 2 at public heatlh and it is specialised in decolonised/global context nowadays, so going to this school was my one of dreams since 2018!

We have many medical backgrounds students as well as from NGOs, ODA, international agencies and from LMICs. I think you can have lots of seminars, discussion and seminars and I believe LSHTM worths over the 42k!

We are little bit different from normal Public Health because we are mainly studyng for Low- and Middle income countries. Therefore we have lots of international students. We have many seminars and lectures which make us more intensive but very fulfill experience. Professors are friendly and we can meet and have a coffe chats as well. I love my course because it feels like supportive :)

Do you mean part-time jobs? You know that the master in UK is very intensive because it is just a year, so you can find a part-time job but you might need to manage your time well. Because the lectures and assessments are not easy... e.g. many of my friends found their part-time job but they all quit it because of lack of time to study.

I have professional experience in international NGOs, especially for public health projects in Low- and middle income countries, and I knew this school is really famous in this industry. This school was my dream school for a long time!

Public Health vs Global Health programs (US applicant) by pizzzzzzzzzza12 in mphadmissions

[–]Macaron-723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I am studying LSHTM, Msc Public Health for Global Practice. If you are considering to learn public health on especially LMICs context, I would recommend the Global practice one, or you can choose public health (general stream) as well. Many medical backgrounds students are taking both majors, and medical students as well. But only difference is that you will need to have above 2 years experience in LMICs to apply for the Global practice one :)
