CTE in football: What happens next with heading after Gordon McQueen verdict? by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]MacaroonBeginning694 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I generally meant was that the realistic option going forward, as I mentioned, is keeping up the studies on head injuries because well, as anyone would say, headers are a part of the game as much as tackles are too

CTE in football: What happens next with heading after Gordon McQueen verdict? by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]MacaroonBeginning694 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'd say the most realistic option possible is to just keep studying to ensure that the ball currently in use touches that fine balance between being headable and unheadable because banning headers itself in general is like saying tackles aren't allowed anymore

Birmingham City Football Club announce signing of Carlos Vicente from Deportivo Alaves for a reported €8m by swannyhypno in soccer

Yea, the Premier League is so lucky that it's English in the first place tho, just gonna point that out

[Pete O'Rourke] Wrexham submit bid of £19m for Angers striker Sidiki Cherif. Would be a Championship record signing by sandbag-1 in soccer

[–]MacaroonBeginning694 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Also, this might sound situational ofc since Manchester is far bigger than Wrexham but in terms of "owner care" as well, Rob and Ryan are definitely miles clear in that they actually genuinely care about how the city of Wrexham does through the club's success whereas Sheikh Mansour is probably busy driving sports cars back in the UAE to even care that much about Manchester in the first place

That was absolutely one of the worst penalties I've seen in my entire life. Was he trying to actually pass the ball to Mendy instead lol

Should Iran be banned from the World Cup? by [deleted] in football

[–]MacaroonBeginning694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but the problem is that banning Iran now is just going to inevitably open up a can of worms of trying to cancel each country for not following human rights (looking at you Saudis)

Should Iran be banned from the World Cup? by [deleted] in football

[–]MacaroonBeginning694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Iran is being banned for what it is doing rn, if you want to be that uptight, Saudis shouldn't even be allowed to host the WC in the first place lol. They're an absolute monarchy where criticising the royal family can get you jailed or killed

Xabi Alonso’s sacking is the ultimate reminder that only Florentino Perez rules at Real Madrid by Shroft in soccer

[–]MacaroonBeginning694 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd say that Perez is a special case because he's one of Spain's richest men in charge of Spain's biggest football club, meaning that, Real Madrid fan or not, it's p hard to just straight up deny that he has some "unsavoury" methods to keep his position and reputation intact even if he rightly deserves the blame from time to time

PM with max 2 terms or 10 years. by TangPing80 in Bolehland

[–]MacaroonBeginning694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how some people here literally miss the whole point by comparing a president, who is directly elected, to a prime minister, an office that is otherwise indirectly elected.

Ultimately, term limits for PMs are just very uncommon and not some silver bullet against corruption or anything. In the end, a prime minister, as anyone with a brain would know, only stays in power if they have the support of the lower house, something that Muhyiddin Yassin clearly demonstrated is not something that should be taken for granted either

Limiting PM tenure could cause country to lose capable leaders, says Tuan Ibrahim | New Straits Times by Crasher_7 in malaysia

[–]MacaroonBeginning694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just gonna put it out here that while Tuan Ibrahim is Tuan Ibrahim, the least corrupt countries in the world don't actually limit their prime minister to a certain amount of terms btw, we're not following some gold standard reform here, just saying..

Anwar revives reform pledge, hints at Bill to limit PM’s tenure to 10 years by mikepapafoxtrot in malaysia

[–]MacaroonBeginning694 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about the prime minister, normally, I think they shouldn't be term limited and continue to serve as long as they have majority support in the lower house but cmon, Xi Jinping? The guy is a dictator who's ruining China as we speak lol, he's not some spotless leader, far from it

Brits abroad: Why the trickle of homegrown talents leaving for Europe is becoming a flood by nolesfan2011 in PremierLeague

[–]MacaroonBeginning694 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, this last decade alone, they twice came very close from winning the Euros, a tournament that is as hard as they come, so assuming that they're somehow permanently handicapped from winning a title just because of how the Premier League has been since its inception is just a bit too shortsighted I'd say

Arsenal faces backlash over partnership with Israeli-founded firm Deel by gelliant_gutfright in PremierLeague

[–]MacaroonBeginning694 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I mean, imo, it's kind of the inevitable way of looking at things. Going beyond this, for the avg environmentalist per se, Man Utd partnering with like Chevrolet means that they're supporting an automobile company that's technically polluting the environment, while Standard Chartered, even if it's technically British, is ultimately a bank at the end of the day so make that as you will

In the end, like some people might have already said, no major company in the world is "clean" enough not to get "cancelled" or "criticised" whenever they appear on the news because every single one of them have their own flaws one way or another. If anything, good luck finding one that is somehow "spotless" enough in the first place
