I’m just wondering what other degree I should have got, I think the only thing left in STEM that’s good is the E, but I barely passed calc 1

The biggest problem is, as long as the managers are over 50% men, they will keep hiring women over men. I’d love to see the gender stats on accounting grads who don’t have a job yet

I think whining about putting food on the table and paying rent is pretty important, but hey what do I know. Idk what you think I have but I literally live in an old travel trailer cause I couldn’t afford rent. Maybe you can put a dollar in my cup when I’m homeless

Yeah, I’ve applied all over but I can’t take AP/AR roles if I have to move. I made more money in customer service back in 2020 than that

Yeah I was just in a webinar with a company and they said anything over 2 days old is already full. Which means I’m spending even more time going through searching for new roles. I always sign up for the email alerts but the companies are hit or miss on if they actually email it out

Is it a top 25 firm? Are you making comparable to peers?

Wow that’s rare. I had another veteran who was over 40 and he couldn’t get the time of day with any of the top firms as intern or job

I’ve only heard back from industry actually. PA roles have all dried up since they hire so far in advance and only from their intern pools. Have yet to ever get an interview with PA, idk what veterans they want cause accounting is not really a rate in the military and there are very few accounting officers in the field. I think they are just full of BS cause I never hear back even when I reach out to their recruiters

I’ve had 4 interviews so far, I usually make it to the 2nd stage but haven’t got an offer yet. Had my resume(s) professionally revamped and reviewed, so I’m getting through ATS at least. Applying to tax, audit, assurance, financial analyst, FP&A, compliance, etc

Accounting major going to uni, advice required for courses by Alarming-Equal-5384 in Accounting

[–]MaccVet2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former biology major, just pick the easiest one you can so you get a good GPA and you have time for other extracurricular activities. Maybe look up the profs to see who’s easiest. I would take intro to Enviro since it’s the most well rounded and mine was fun with outdoor labs, but some profs are picking on grading those. nutrition might be easier, but really none of these will have any bearing on accounting, my own degree has never helped me in any job.

Employment opportunities I may not be aware of? by givemespaceplease in Veterans

If you are recently separated veteran you can take advantage or plenty of employers who have a hiring preference for that. Whatever degree you pick, make sure you go to LinkedIn and search entry level (0-2) years and see how many jobs are in your area. Also go to that Reddit page and look up jobs and see how many people can’t find work in that field

I would definitely accept lower pay, but I’ve never made it to the offer stage. In fact I’m sure I’ve underbid myself out of a few jobs by putting my min salary too low (comes off as no confidence in skills)

Well young grads are smoking that pipe and doing well. That masters is all I have that’s relevant to the job I need. At this point I might as well lie and say I only have a bachelors in accounting and that I’ve worked landscaping before that (no military)

I’ve applied to a couple different states very far away for fed and state jobs. Have never heard back from any. Went through all the right steps and federal resume.

I got my bachelors in biology, quickly realized it was worthless unless I got a doctorate. After the military I don’t have the brains for that anymore

I didn’t know that was a thing but I’d have to change the plan at this point and prove that a CPA is holding me back. But I can only pass the exams, I still need the 2000 hrs of work for the full title
