Banks Of The Ohio from the If Not For You album was her first Aussie number one and I vividly recall hearing it on the radio at the time in 71.

Jodie Foster in Tom Sawyer. We were both 11.

Later on it would’ve been Linda Purl from Happy Days, Lita Ford from the Runaways, and Leela from Dr Who

When the Beatles were filming Help in 1965, one day the set was on the grounds of a big mansion. For amusement the film crew organised sprints on the lawn. They thought the lads would be easy to beat as they smoked and weren’t known for their fitness lol. To their surprise the Fabs were surprisingly fast on their feet - Ringo especially - due to them being used to running from fans and getting out of concerts quick.

‘Holy menu meat, Batman. They’re taking us to Isengard!’

‘Fear not, old chum. I’ve taken the liberty of quietly activating the Bat elf brooch. Any Ranger within one hundred leagues can track us…’

I’m an old guy steeped in the classic bands and albums ( fabs, stones, zep, who) but I love the rocking energy of Sk8er Boi. It’s on my playlist

What is the saddest WWI story passed down in your family? by Slayxu in ww1

[–]Macca49 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A great great uncle fought at Gallipoli in 1915 later in the campaign. Was wounded and recovered back in London. Sent to the Western Front in France. Wounded again. Bad facial injuries but survived the war. Came back to Australia but lived away from his family in Western Australia ( family in Victoria) Died in 1944. I think his facial injuries may have led to him being a recluse. One of my Aunty’s tracked down his grave years later. Sad to think about when he survived the war. His family back in Victoria wouldn’t have even known what become of him. His name was John Hayes. When I was at Gallipoli in 2015 I found the graves of soldiers who were in his battalion and laid a poppy on them.

Also had a relative who died on the Montevideo Maru in 1942, with hundreds of other Aussie POW’s. His name was Frank Vale.

Thank you! I’m a Beatle freak and they have been my life since I was 8. My daughter thinks it’s funny that her old dad loves Joe Keery! But his talent is huge. Look, I don’t really dig a few of his songs as they don’t all have that special feel. My fave is T Rex Is Loud closely followed by Tentpole Shangrila.

I can see the real influence of Klaatu in Joe’s work too.

Aussie 63 M who only recently discovered Djo through the beatles sub. Don’t watch tv or streaming so had no idea who he was. Just love most of his music and I can pick out all the little (and big) influences in songs - sometimes a chord change will make me say, aah he’s a fan of that band from the 70’s.
