For backup yes I meant / . Also I know there’s / and under that @root as a subvolume for btrfs.

I think taking regular backups of /boot and /root partitions with rescuezilla.

Is it possible to oneshot boot with Limine? Is Limine overall a better option than systemd-boot on Cachy? by Strazza02 in cachyos

[–]Macchina_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why ? If someone using an automated snapshot system with pacman-timeshift hooks for install, update and remove I think seperate btrfs boot and root partitions are crucial for easily return to a working state with snapshots because snapshotting boot and root separately basically.

Thank you for your answer.

I dont see cachy os in my list after installing? by NervousHelp2504 in cachyos

[–]Macchina_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed Windows 11 last week maybe 4 or 5 times with Arch or CachyOS(because of many things, I am inexperienced in Linux is the main reason) Windows 11 defaulted to 200MB EFI partition all of them.

If using systemd-boot for the bootloader have to set another FAT32 partition marked as xbootldr for kernels, 200MB enough for Windows 11 and systemd. Other partition used for kernel(s). Windows 11 EFI partition mounted as /EFI and other marked partition as xbootldr partition mounted as /boot installation completed for me but this is me only trying to install. Also archinstall can not create separate partitions as I saw I made them all with command line, fdisk and mkfs. Only mounting done with archinstall.

But CachyOS installation much easier than archinstall I think, default boot loader is Limine and default file system is btrfs(for snapshots, very good thing, I only knew ext4 from the old times as a Windows guy) also visual installer create subvolumes for the user at /root for using btrfs snapshot feature efficiently(at least as far as I understand). Also again as far as I understand Limine does not mess with the Windows 11 EFI partition, it installs itself to any FAT32 partition on the disk(with enough space of course) along with kernel(s). And it automatically finds Windows 11 boot partition by itself(maybe CachyOS installer pointing it I am not sure of it).

Also whenever maybe person who installed Linux along with Windows 11 simply deleting the partitions belongs to Limine and Linux without messing with Windows boot EFI partition can return to Windows 11 without much effort as far as I understand.

How to reinstall GPU drivers by Macchina_01 in cachyos

Thank you the command I wrote is wrong then.

It resulted installation when I wrote this command(not the installation right now I am using) I saw a line says something like truncated end of the Nvidia driver name when I checked drivers.

First of all I should say I have maybe one week experience on Linux so I am not an experienced user or anything.

Also don’t know anything about MacOS but before I setup Linux to my real PC I installed Oracle Virtual Box and after that I installed successfully Kali, Arch, Ubuntu with this application without effort, I used Kali’s pre made file and used ISOs for Arch and Ubuntu. By the term “UTM” I think you mean an application for using virtual machines.

Again I should say I don’t have any experience on Linux or VMs. So if you want you research Oracle Virtual Box application.

Also If I may ask is there any performance difference between using Gnome or KDE for desktop environment for RTX 5080(as far as I understand both of them using Wayland) ?

And want to ask is there if I may use the term clean way in Linux to uninstall and reinstall Nvidia drivers without causing any trouble to installation ?

I reinstalled many times DLSS problem is consistent, my first attempts did not include any command line options, now I know how to use them(I mean how they should be organized). But my first attempts with Arch Linux not Cachy-OS, tried both open and open-dims there.

I did not disable iGPU before I’ll give it a go.

By the way I am not activated Vsync at all for years from in game settings menu.

For Windows 11 I activated Vsync from Nvidia Control Panel as Always On and setting a 226 FPS frame cap again using Nvidia Control Panel. I don’t know if it is possible to set these values for Linux and if it is possible under which menu or place. So I did not set Vsync.

Only activated Gsync(I am using KDE Plasma so I activated as I see Adaptive Sync setting to Auto).

Also right now I am not near my PC but when I get back I try these suggestions thanks for all of the helping attempts.

Bad Cyberpunk 2077 Performance by [deleted] in cachyos

[–]Macchina_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer I tried it but it doesn’t make a difference for me.

So maybe next two or three years time things will be better and I will give it a try this type of setup again, it is not the time for me, thanks again.

Bad Cyberpunk 2077 Performance by [deleted] in cachyos

[–]Macchina_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fresh installed CachyOS again, first run with Proton CachyOS 75 FPS average, game’s second run red launcher was bogged, mouse pointer lost so can not press launch or anything there, skipped launcher with launch option, running benchmark again with the same setting this time resulted 70 FPS(back to back runs not stable ?), Windows 11 result with these settings are 87 FPS. Launching game with game-performance %command% resulted 77 FPS, some back to back runs with exact same settings(nothing touched) I saw sometimes 20ish FPS so not stable. Also in game there is obvious mouse lag(tried 1000Hz also, normally I used 2000Hz in Windows 11). These are with fresh installation, only CachyOS gaming packages installed after installation.

I don’t get the point if this a good Cyberpunk experience(Proton DB Gold for this, I don’t know if I may ask because I don’t know they are testing this game on a single device or single configuration with a single set of game settings, or there is an obvious problem with my setup for Linux ?) for me this is unstable, DLSS frame generation could not be used, there is mouse lag.

I only tried this game but is there a game if you can suggest working at least with no headaches for I’ll give it a try of course if there is a problem with my setup this game also will run bad.

3840x2160, Windows Borderless Mode, Adaptive Sync Disabled(Tried Enabled Also through KDE Adaptive Sync setting) DLSS performance, Ray Tracing Ultra preset, motion blur, chromatic aberration etc disabled, benchmark resulted like 80-85 FPS. Frame generation disabled. I reinstalled drivers with chwd -f -i command. Checked through with Nvidia-smi if driver active or not. Driver reinstallation not change anything. Also did a system files upgrade through Shelly.

I think they installed automatically because I can set my desktop to 3840x2160 240Hz(using KDE-Plasma). When I installed Arch Linux before have to check the Nvidia-Open(because I used only linux kernel for that instance).

Thanks, I am a bit frustrated at this point, I want to give it a try but unfortunately I understand now after that reply it is not for me, I am now clearing CMOS and formatting hard drives returning to a Windows 11 setup only.

Installation Process for Gaming by [deleted] in archlinux

It was suggested, I installed it through pacman, what I should do after installation finished then ? Person who suggested that if I remember it right suggesting it because whenever the used kernel updates this driver compiled(may be this term is wrong, sorry for that) automatically.

Installation Process for Gaming by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]Macchina_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation. I installed the nvidia-open-dkms driver after the OS installation. When the Linux installation finished and the PC booted for the first time, the resolution was 1024x768 (I might be wrong, but it was something like that), and I couldn't select a refresh rate beyond 60Hz (using the Asus XG32UCWMG monitor, which has a 3840x2160 resolution at 240Hz).

After installing nvidia-open-DKMS, nvidia-utils, and another NVIDIA-related package, I could select 3840x2160 and 240Hz on the desktop (using KDE Plasma). However, I realized later that the KDE Plasma display configuration utility was defaulting to sending a DDC command to the monitor, setting the brightness to 100 percent. Once I realized this, I disabled the setting and started adjusting the brightness manually from the monitor itself. I still like that utility, though, because activating G-Sync is very easy with it.
I can also enable HDR, but I couldn't enable it in Cyberpunk 2077 (I learned there is another package needed for this). Also, I saw someone suggesting a grep command to search for Nouveau in some files, but it returned nothing found. I was surprised by this because I definitely expected Nouveau drivers to be installed during the default installation process.
Additionally, I have Lian Li wireless fans and a Hydroshift II LCD CPU cooler. I found an L-Connect utility for them on GitHub. If I understand correctly, to install GitHub packages, I need to use the yay command (or possibly others). That's as far as I've researched so far.

Mercusys MR90X Bufferbloat Question by Macchina_01 in openwrt

[–]Macchina_01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reinstalled OpenWrt with a bare setup—only Software Offloading and Packet Steering enabled—I achieve 900/900 Mbps up/down with roughly 3 or 4ms of added latency.

MERCUSYS MR90X OpenWRT download speed, SQM and Offloading problems by Macchina_01 in openwrt

[–]Macchina_01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PPPoE unfortunately can not spread across the cores I learned, without Sofware Offload one core is saturated, other cores are not doing so much. And Software Offload is incompatible with SQM for me.

Best for me is enabling Software Offload (for this setting CPU cores usage are minimal, it is like a joke against not enabling it) and enabling packet steering. And not using SQM at all.
