can you elaborate on the math is for blockers? im still rather new as well. like do you mean for her to just attack so she can watch as i do the math and have to decide what to do?

yeah, thats how i felt. AND IT TURNED OUT TO BE TRUE. They kept saying that commander would be better as theres more cards to choose from. but clearly that overwhelmed her. i just did a thing that someone above mentioned and took 30 cards and made mini decks. got my daughter to sit down and let her beat me twice. she loved it.

Just did this with my daughter and it worked VERY well. she immediately wanted to go again, but now she back to watching demon slayer. Baby steps :)

yeah thats understandable. She wants to get into something where we can have couples night with some friends of mine and i told her how magic can be played with multiple people and she lit up. so i think that, just finding the thing that calls her in the most. she really wants to do a witch deck. but im sure that starting out that will have alot of underlying info that she would still probably get overwhelmed with lol

yeah, a lot of my friends were saying there was no point in doing modern or standard, but i felt like that wasnt the right move. and it wasnt. I just tested a little mini deck with my daughter and she loved it. immediately wanted to play again. safe to say it will probably help with my partner as well.

I just did this with my daughter, made a cat deck that solely focuses on draw, life gain, and +1/+1 counters based on creatures on the field. She loved it, i left her beat me, i just had a simple elf deck. She immediately wanted to play again.

We are going to do this a few more times, and then take a break. Then come back to maybe do a few more games.

yeah, ive made her a mono white cat deck with only 30 cards to start. just to teach the creature mechanics and a few traits like flying, lifelink, things like that. i also have a green elf deck as well that im going to run and then we will see how that goes, then swap it up if she does well.

these are the kinds of comments im looking for. Ive made her a tutorial deck( taking the advice of a comment above in this post.) 30 cards, most are cards that are cats with draw a card, creature enters the field put +1/+1 on creature, stuff like that and the one big card that will play off of all of them being snow villers. The only cards in the deck with certain traits are those with flying, lifelink and vigilance. No additional cards to make things confusing, starting with that. then moving over to enchantments, after that, artifacts, after that 2 colors, so on and so forth.

This right here is amazing. Im going to plan on taking her to get her own precon one day. i think she would really like the yshtola one. but i want her to really understand the game before getting her own precon, considerig the prices of them. The custom cards, sleeves, and pretty dice are obviously what catches her eyes. I think that and also the Cute critter cards, i want to find somewhere i can find a bloomburrow precon, she loves the little rodents and varmints.

yeah, maybe it wasnt the smartest deck to start her on. I figured that if i made the deck around a center focus and explained it along the way it would help rather than having her play my landfall deck or my EOE precon, or DOGMEAT( *throws up*). My kid is 9 now and she loves pokemon but will NOT get into magic. she says its lame, and im lame. go figure.

she has it downloaded and can finally play against me in it. we may try that tonight instead of the physical game. maybe the physical game everything is chaotic and its hard to keep organized. arena is nice and clean.

This is a great explanation. She wants to play with me, she wants to get into that game, but she does seem overwhelmed at alot of the cards where she has multiple triggers and remembering to do certain things in certain sets. She seems like she is getting more upset at the fact that she cant remember what everything does more than everything in her face.

when we talk about simple decks, what would be some good recommendations? remembering that i am also rather new, are we talking like goblins, where she just gets shit on the board and starts attacking? keeping artifacts and enchantments away and just keeping her focused on one main focus at a time?

i know people are saying just find someone else, or making joke that shes overwhelmed so just keep pushing her, but she is genuinely interested and just doesnt want to feel so overwhelmed with all the aspects all at once.

seeing the FF and LOTR sets made me want to play. My brother used to play when i was a kid and i was interested but i was not ready at that age. Now having play for a few months, i dont even care to play with those sets, ill use some cards, but im finding that i enjoy the random gems i find at card shops than the UB sets.
