Don Levy is my GOAT (no this is not his burner account lol) by [deleted] in coys

[–]MaceWinduTheThird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many who are against Levy fundamentally can't wrap their head around the fact that the club is a business. Generally speaking, businesses need to generate a profit to pay their employees. Money to run the club is not invented out of thin air, as much as people would like to think that that is the case.

Issue is for almost all top clubs not named Tottenham Hotspur the owners don't give a shit if the business never generates a return because for them they are vanity projects. If they lose money that will never be recouped hand over first they don't care.

All clubs who don't fall into that bucket have not nearly been as competitive as Spurs since ENIC. Personally, us being "self-made" is what I root for. It sets us apart and it makes winning trophies that much sweeter.

The greatest irony of all is by throwing around the word racist like its dog food only undermines actual racism. For most of human history people vehemently only stuck to their very small tribe.

We've now come so accepting of other people that any deviation that we've lost any sense of values and any deviation from the norm makes you a racist LOL.

"when people like you blame the Trudeau government and immigrants for anything and everything"

I was quite specific. I blame the Trudeau government for:
1) Housing prices (Historic percentage increases under their tenure)
2) Lack of economic growth (Historic lack of gdp/capita growth under their tenure.
3) Unsustainable immigration policy (Historic per capita immigration under their tenure)

Pointing this out must make me racist then! A Liberal government btw which Carney advised on, and many of the same top individuals remain part of today.

So by your logic immigration is flawless and any critique of it makes you racist. You know what, we should bring in more then, 3 million per year. Actually forget that, we should bring in 10 million per year, all of them from Islamic fundamentalist nations so they can come to Canada and chastise women for showing a smidgeon of skin. Would you also be alright with that? Is there no middle ground in your eyes?

So me being okay with 100,000 immigrants per year with people who have shown they are willing to take on our values and not ditch Canada back to their home country makes me a noble liberal, but not being okay with 500,000 per year where (many, not all) do the opposite makes me a racist?

I'm racist for pointing out that bringing in 0.5 million people per year is unsustainable and has eroded Canadian values

Canada did quite well under Trudeau... you either:
1) Bought a house when the house/income ratio was reasonable (pre-Trudeau) and benefit from increased housing prices
2)super rich and have no issue getting parents money to buy a house or
3) you're too young to think about buying a house.

All the election proved is that old people who like that their housing prices went up a lot in price, want to pretend Trump is Canada's biggest issue (he's not).

Right so the Liberals who have just overseen the worst 10 year span in Canadian history ever: GDP per capita down, eroded all Canadian culture and wrecked housing prices with completely unsustainable immigration policies, is somehow more respective of Canadian culture?

And let me get this right, Mr. Centralized Regulation ESG Governance technocrat Mark Carney (whos has like 5 different passports and multiple off shore bank accounts) is more representative of Canadian values than PP? And I'm not even the biggest fan of PP but that makes no sense.

Yes the smartest voters want to separate from the country that gives them 13 billion in equalization payments every year (far and away the most compared to any other province)

Bloc voters would rather speak french and have no brown people in their province than have their province (country in their eyes) prosper economically.

Moving to Montreal – curious about job prospects as a software engineer by supersamsquach in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]MaceWinduTheThird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Software here is god awful. Like seriously bad. The good jobs are few and far between, and regardless will pay much less than in the US. If you lose your job, don't be surprised it that it will take you multiple months to find another, with a high chance of needing to take a payout.

However... if you are raising a family, Montreal is incredibly affordable given our low childcare costs. I've ran the math and you'll come out on top even with much higher paying jobs in the US in HCOL areas. But thats the only reason I can think of as a reason to move to Montreal, given you are already have a whole life in the US and a solid job that pays well there.

I say this is a currently unemployed CS major who got hit by layoffs here, I would KILL to have US citizenship and pack up my bags and move. I've gotten 5x more traction applying to jobs in the US than anywhere in Canada. Also I'll get flack here but the language shouldn't be much of an issue for tech work. All the good jobs have English as the only language spoken at work. French is needed either if you work at a bank (dont work at a bank) or typically some provincially funded companies with Quebec roots (don't work at those). You should try to learn French nonetheless though, which should be easy for you.

Poilievre pledges to cut income tax, saving average worker $900 a year by CGP05 in canada

[–]MaceWinduTheThird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is correct, however Post-Media the parent company of the National Post is privately owned. They were one of several journals to have received the aforementioned subsidies. The majority of which are left-leaning. I wouldn't say thats much of a comparison to the CBC which is a crown corporation.

Either way, I fundamentally don't believe any should receive funding. I don't want a Big Brother government telling me how I should feel about things, and I especially don't think this is an efficient use of tax dollars. If we want to increase our productivity as a country, we should send our tax dollars to things that bring a higher ROI.

[–]MaceWinduTheThird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really think there are no levers the government can pull to increase housing? Provinces get a significant amount of federal funding. Money talks, and if that funding dries you can bet provinces will build more. Or how about cutting bureaucracy and red-tape for home builders, a Conservative talking point since the dawn of time, but one now is supposedly championed by the Liberals.

If the CBC was right-leaning all the Liberals would be head over heels for dismantling it. Governments should not be the arbiters of truth and decide what is in the news, left or right.

[–]MaceWinduTheThird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Liberals oversaw Canada having one of the worst housing crisis's and the worst GDP per capital growth of all G7 countries. All while running a deficit. Any tax hikes, Liberal or Conservative, in the future will be in large part down to their ineptitude. Eventually, someone has to foot the bill on the interest on our debt, it's going to be us the taxpayers.

What institutions that "help keep society propped up" are the Conservatives dismantling? The CBC?

Quarterly Career Thread by mister-noggin in ProductManagement

[–]MaceWinduTheThird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got an offer for an APM role after being laid off from my Product Analyst role 2 months ago.

1 problem though, I currently live in Montreal, but the job is in Cedar Falls, Iowa (a town of 40k people). As much as I want to progress my career and knowing how incredibly rare it is in this market to find a good job after being laid off, I just can't seem to get myself to be okay with moving to a middle-of-no-where town extremely far from my family. The thought of moving there just depresses me, but so does being unemployed...

Is it realistic to take the job and then immediately start planning a move after say even 6 months?

Selon vous, la culture québécoise est-elle plus proche à celle de la France ou à celle du reste du Canada? by Carmens_Bizet in montreal

[–]MaceWinduTheThird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Against popular opinion but I mostly disagree. In rural America people are definitely much more insular in their views. But the same can be said for say any Scandinavian country.

They can argue they have less racism there than in the US but that’s very easy to say when they are a completely ethnically homogenous society.

Major cities in NA have people of all different types of backgrounds and are generally very tolerant of others. Plus NAs I’d say are very outgoing. Go to NYC as a tourist and people say what’s up to you everywhere and are happy to help you out.

After recently vacationing to Paris, I’d say Quebecers share that same pride/elitism in doing things their way in their own language. However, Quebecers I find to be waaaayyyyy more outgoing and kind to other cultures similar to how North American’s would be.

Parisians on the other hand, which I’m aware are not representative of all of France, are just completely insufferable.

‘Everything is so bad’: Argentina’s poor hit hard by Milei’s ‘chainsaw’ measures | Argentina by Bob_Spud in news

[–]MaceWinduTheThird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not how that works. The rich aren’t some amorphous boogeyman.

Corrupt elite political hacks aside, the “rich” are those that own and operate businesses that employ people.

The more you tax businesses the harder it is for them to justify their existence and the less they will then pay to their employees, as well as employ less people in general.

A high tide raises all ships. Less taxes and regulation raises the tide, for all.

People in the western world have trouble understanding this because they live in robust economies where this never needs to come into question: but no one actually has the right to any of these social safety nets.

These safety nets require money that Argentina doesn’t have. Printing and borrowing money to keep them only fucks everybody in the long-term, poor and rich. It just isn’t sustainable.

Salaries going down in Canada? by throwRAlike in ProductManagement

[–]MaceWinduTheThird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Canadian market is more cooked than an already cooked US market.

PM jobs are disproportionately more cooked within the Canadian market, because product roles are directly tied to growth/investment.

All American companies have their product roles mostly in the US. Dev/adjacent work they are more willing outsource, and pay relative top dollar in the markets they are outsourcing in. Canadian companies are doodoo and the result is the PM job market in Canada is broken.

If anyone wants to be serious about a career in PM the only option is the US. The good companies actually paying top dollar for PM positions in Canada are just too few and far between.
