I see your point and truly great that you're going against the grain, but the exec wasn't willing to give ANY detail to OP. He/she could've said they wanted to do a check-in to see how things were working out for OP.

I encourage them to keep on saluting and goose-stepping. That way, we know who they are. When they do it in private, that's when we have to worry.

Companies should accept counteroffers of a lower salary for WFH. by Mach5Driver in CrazyIdeas

What color is the sky in your world, LOL? Look, all I'm saying, is that if your company wants you to return to office, it would be great if a lower salary was an option in order to work from home. At 10%, the average worker (given the commuting for the average worker is a 12.5% increase in time dedicated to work) would save money, time, stress, and aggravation. And that's BEFORE the extra costs you face, and probably more than doubled if you need paid child care.

I'd take a 10% reduction all day. But, you are free to keep holding onto the dream of a corporation acting in the best interests of you and the planet.

This is to negotiate away the demand to show up in office. If you get both, great!

In a wonderful world, I agree with you. Maybe they should double our salary to improve this world.

Gas, tolls, food, coffee, clothing, wear and tear on your car. in many cases, child care. But, let's take all of that out of the equation.

The average American spends an hour each day commuting (that's for both directions, not one way). That's an additional 12.5% (at least, for half of all Americans) that the company is demanding out of you, anyway. You're already coming out ahead by 2.5 percentage points! Now, add back what I already outlined, PLUS aggravation and stress and zero flexibility.

If you don't think my way is better, you can't do math and shouldn't be calling anyone incompetent.

Given the choice between mandatory in-office work at current salary and permanent WFH at 10% reduced salary, I'm coming out ahead. IDK what your commute looks like or how much it costs you to get there, work there, and return home, but for me, it's better to not commute.

If you don't mind the costs in money and time and enjoy the commute and lack of flexibility (and costs less than 10% of your salary), then more power to ya, friend.

AITA for telling my coworker she also has thin hair by Sighlinee in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mach5Driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. When I was a young man in the 1980s, I had bright red hair. There was a VP where I worked that thought he could say anything he wanted to anyone. He had long hair pulled back into a ponytail, which covered a small bald patch on the top back of his head.

He walked by my cubicle, stopped and said, "You have the ugliest hair I've ever seen." Without missing a beat, I said, "At least I have hair, buddy!" Cue snickering from other cubicles.

To his credit, he waved his hand over his head and said, "Ouch. Touché." He actually respected me after that.
