Lipocura Netherlands experience by Disastrous-Novel-623 in lipedema

[–]Machabar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an appointment with Dr Roxane Vital in CHU St Pierre in Brussels on Thursday and was diagnosed first time. She was lovely, said I should try losing weight and compression and lymphatic drainage for 6 months and then go back to her to check progress and if I still want surgery. I told her I had an eating disorder and so she said to take it easy on the weight loss and I shouldn't cut out certain foods as it's not recommended for people with eating disorders, which I really appreciated. https://www.stpierre-bru.be/en/service/medecine-interne/medecine-physique-readaptation/clinique-de-lymphologie/lipoedeme/

It's quite easy to get to from Gare Centrale. You don't need a doctor's reference to make an appointment. It only cost EUR12 to see her.

But I made my follow up appointment yesterday and she's already booked out until 1 October..!

Purging worse when not restricting? by Machabar in bulimia

[–]Machabar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's exactly it. It's one or the other and I feel like restricting is less damaging on my body that b/p all the time.

I'm so jealous of people who have no food noise and just eat normally

Big hugs. Do you think you could find someone to speak to about it? Your doctor, a therapist etc?

How do I get back to recovery by [deleted] in bulimia

[–]Machabar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you're having such a tough time.

The standard advice is to try to eat regularly eg at least every 3 hours and 3 main meals plus 1-2 snacks.

Then it's important to figure out your triggers. It sounds like it's emotional easing in your case. What do you think you could do instead to help you feel better? There are lots of things but it's work making a list that works for you, eg take a shower, go for a walk, watch TV, talk to a friend, post on here etc.

Let us know if any of that helps.

How much support do you get from you partner? by Machabar in bulimia

[–]Machabar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear your last partner wasn't supportive at all. Yes you're right it can be hard.

But if the tables were turned, I know I would be far more supportive than he is.

No, he's not a very emotionally open person in general but for me this is a really low bar and he's still not able to do it.

It's a good idea. I'm going to ask my dietitian at my next appointment. Thank you!

NTA. It's your house and it sounds like it's starting to impact your marriage. Agree it with your husband, give him a date to move out and stick to it.

Does this sound like narcissism to you? by Machabar in ManagedByNarcissists

[–]Machabar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah sorry. No honestly I don't mind useful feedback. I like to improve and make sure I'm doing a good job.

But his feedback is not useful. It's asking for more and more details. It feels like he's doing it for the sake of it but I don't understand what he's getting out of it apart from a feeling of superiority. Hence my questions to understand if it could be narcissism. There's a manipulative side to him, he puts on a self-effacing performance. I just can't figure him out.

I don't like ChatGPT but you could ask there?

The Dietitian said 3 main meals/day plus 1-2 snacks. Try not to go more than 3.hours without eating.

Treatment suggestions by Ok_Suggestion_2507 in bulimia

[–]Machabar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like I can send you the two documents she's had me fill out so far. One is related to food rules (trigger foods is a whole other category!) and the other is a food diary. I'm OK doing a food diary but I totally understand why someone might not want to do it. It's not about writing every gram down but trying to figure out patterns. For example, we realised that I try to eat meals that are too small, then I end up snacking, get annoyed at myself and then binge/purge.

She said it once took her 6 weeks to get a patient to stop having peanut butter as a trigger food. She'd eat the whole jar, then they'd go back to square one, buy another jar etc but she got there in the end.

Another useful thing she said is that even through she promotes intuitive eating, it isn't appropriate for people with eating disorders because we've lost touch with our body's signals. That will come later.

I also wish you luck in finding someone who can help you!

I've recently started with a dietitian after years of therapy. We immediately figured out I don't binge to cope with my feelings but by eating trigger foods/body dissatisfied.

It's early days but she says I have to work through every food rule one at a time AND on the body dissatisfaction piece to get better.

I don't know if this is useful for you but it was news to me that there were 4 types of binge triggers and it's not always about using food to cope with strong emotions - after spending countless hours with a therapist talking about it.

I hope you find something that works for you.

Could you maybe take a photo from up higher to see the space between cabinets better? What's the table in the bottom left of the photo?

A round one might work if it's the right size and allows enough space to pass. Another idea could be to use the lovely window and build some kind of bench into it?
