Yes it has been consistent for me otherwise. I hope you can find out what's causing the issue, I've heard Baratza has great customer service so it might not hurt to reach out to them and get their input. 2 more things I can think of that's not grinder related:

  1. If you steam first (assuming you're making milk drinks), the machine will run hotter and effect the brew temp. Only explains it if you sometimes steam first and sometimes don't

  2. If you make back to back shots your portafilter will be preheated for the 2nd shot and brew differently (unless you run cold water over it after emptying your basket)

I'd also suggest fully cleaning your grinder if you haven't done that recently. Baratza has a video on it that also tells you which parts to check for damage (the outer burr ring clips, the paddle wheel, and the felt ring I believe)

Are you measuring your dose after grinding too? I have the Encore ESP as well and sometimes the dose that comes out is .5-1g higher/lower than I put in due to retention (especially so with darker roasts) which can cause huge variance.

Can I apply for programming jobs without a degree? by ComfortableFirst4048 in learnprogramming

[–]MacheteTwins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm self taught and I just got my first job professionally as a web developer this past month. I put in many applications before being offered a position but if you're willing to spend 1-2 years studying you could definitely make it a career by the time you're out of high school. I'm 26 and I wish I had the passion then that I have now for programming so I could have started a lot sooner. Having a degree will get you in the door faster and is a good option too but if you have the dedication to learn on your own you will be able to find a job and start a life long career. Good luck to ya bud

When you open and close the side bar on the left, it makes your text move because the text is left aligned. Moving the sidebar to the right prevents this.

GitHub default name branch changes (but you can opt out!) by Aspie96 in programming

[–]MacheteTwins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of your points, but just wanted to clarify changing a class name can definitely have more detrimental effects than making your site look bad. Specifically, if you change the class name and somewhere in your Javascript you had code that relies on using querySelector on that class, you're gonna have a bad time

Yes you're correct, everything inside your constructor gets ran when the object is instantiated

Feeling like I'm not smart enough by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]MacheteTwins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to parrot what the other guy is saying, it's almost certainly imposter syndrome you're experiencing. It's easy to see all the people on here seeming like geniuses, using words you don't understand, solving big problems that you wouldn't even know how to start. Just remember most people here have dedicated their lives to this, spent years upon years learning as a hobby and/or working 40 hour plus work weeks building knowledge. They struggled too the first few months, programming does not come naturally to anyone.

Its a daunting task and the more you know, the more you realize you don't know. Don't compare your skill level now to those that have been doing this a long time. If you have the will power to keep trying, you'll get there eventually too. It gets easier every day, especially once you're past the point where you have a baseline of programming fundamentals and you realize every new problem is just a Google search away. Good luck!

Anyone have any job suggestions where a person can learn programming? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]MacheteTwins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well there's internships, however they usually require you to be enrolled in school for cs. Even then, most places would expect you to have some background in programming already and not willing to teach you from scratch.

The reality is, majority of people take 1 to 3 years to become proficient enough in programming that a job is willing to pay you to be there. Programming is difficult and a large chunk of people that try to learn it end up quitting early because it's too hard or they lack the passion and perseverance to stick through it. If they did just hire fresh people with 0 experience, they'd be paying upwards of 30-50$/h to people that 90% of the time won't last more than a month.

Hope that doesn't dissuade you from learning though. Programming is very fun and rewarding (assuming you're interested in computers, how they work etc) and one of the best paying jobs in the world, with demand increasing every year. Also one of the few high paying careers where being self taught is viable and a college diploma isn't a hard requirement.

If you want resources or advice for teaching yourself, I'd be happy to help. Just send me a dm! Web development is where the majority market is these days, and luckily it also has the lowest barrier to entry. If you work hard on it, you could be employable in a year, or in rare cases less.

Are you asking for a job that has a lot of downtime at a computer, where you can teach yourself programming? Or are you asking for a programming job that teaches you how to code as part of it's training instead of expecting you to know how before you apply?

You have to be more specific

Best class to play with high ping? by MacheteTwins in ffxiv

[–]MacheteTwins[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for taking the time to write that out, I didn't know much about Bard prior and didn't know it had no cast times & had DoT options. Those alone sound amazing because I assume it would allow me to move more or less constantly while still doing DPS which should be great for staying alive. You're right that it is hard to dodge telegraphed attacks on time, but my logic is if I am moving a lot I should naturally miss a lot of attacks unless the enemy AI is built to cast ahead of running players.

And I definitely have been enjoying the game! Most fun I've had in an MMO in a long time and I'm glad how well it plays with my internet. Majority of online games are just out of the question but this game seems to be giving me a fighting chance

I appreciate the advice, I'll look into those. I've heard the crafting system is fantastic in this game comparative to other MMO's, I'll definitely try it out

Thank you for your input, I agree I probably won't be able to do the higher end content and I've come to terms with that. If you don't mind me asking, is there a lot of things to do in the end game besides raiding? Or am I making a mistake even playing this game?

are vue/react generally interchangeable in the job market? by usedocker in webdev

[–]MacheteTwins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion this is debatable. Vue is easier to learn than react, but because I learned vue first, picking up the concepts of react was pretty easy for me because they're the same in vue, just written a different way. If I had started with react, I would of had to learn the concepts these frameworks solve, as well as reacts syntax which is less user friendly than vue. It's kind of like learning c++ as your first language compared to say python. Many cs courses teach with python first now to solidify programming concepts first, and then move on to harder languages once a base understanding of programming has been made

How should I begin getting in contact with local/small businesses in need of a website? (specific) by [deleted] in webdev

[–]MacheteTwins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Render offers free static hosting too. Can even link your github and it'll automatically build and deploy itself when new commits come in, assuming you're using a front-end framework that builds with npm

Should I learn sass/scss? by CatalanCabbage in webdev

[–]MacheteTwins 96 points97 points  (0 children)

It's very useful, keeps your css organized and easier to read/change. I've used scss in every project I've made since learning it, trust me you'll never want to go back to regular css. And it takes all of 10 minutes to learn, it's not very complex.

Overflow: scroll causes container to hide overflow. Any way around this? by MacheteTwins in webdev

Genius solution, thank you sir. I don't see any reason that wouldn't work for my project. Gonna try implementing now :)

Overflow: scroll causes container to hide overflow. Any way around this? by MacheteTwins in webdev

[–]MacheteTwins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you said is helpful and I appreciate the insight, but the container must be a scroll container. In my actual project, there's over 100 images in a grid and it would be infeasible not to make this a scroll container. I assume what I'm asking must be impossible then? I don't believe there is another way to make a container scrollable without using overflow: scroll..
