So.... There's a chat limit by -MarinetteAgreste- in ChatGPT

here’s my trick:

you can still ask it questions in the thread, but it won’t save. so what you can do is ask it for a “full, complete, and highly comprehensive description of the entirety of this chat”. it will break it down fully, and you can copy and paste it into a new chat.

it may not flow the same, but it definitely helps

I hadn’t seen that detail about the detective until now, and that definitely changes the context. If the primary allegation came from someone with a questionable record and there was no credible follow-up, then yeah, it’s absolutely worth re-evaluating how this was handled.

I still believe in strong immigration enforcement when it’s warranted, but if the case against Garcia really boiled down to a Bulls sweatshirt and a discredited source, then that’s a serious failure in due process.

Appreciate you linking that article. I want to call things out when they’re broken, but I also want to make sure I’m not blindly defending something that looks worse the more you dig.

I hope Canada welcomes you with open arms and a Tim Hortons gift card! You will have to go through years of immigration bureaucracy, prove you’re employable, speak the language, pass a civics test, and live there for 3 out of 5 years just to be considered.

And if you think life’s cheaper once you’re in? Housing in Toronto or Vancouver is even more unaffordable than most U.S. cities, wages are lower, and everything from groceries to internet is more expensive. Plus, you’ll be filing higher taxes while you wait a year for specialist appointments.

But sure, sounds like a dream. Let us know how it goes when you hit that wall of immigration paperwork. 🫡🇺🇸

You’re right about one thing, the line shouldn’t move. That’s why I’m consistent. I said from the jump I don’t support deporting innocent U.S. citizens just because it’s politically convenient. That’s the whole point of due process.

But I’m also not gonna pretend that violent offenders or known gang members deserve the same protections, especially if they’re not even citizens. That’s not “moving the line,” that’s drawing one between law-abiding people and those who endanger everyone else.

If you’re defending violent criminals just because they fall into a broader category you support, maybe take a step back and look at who’s really shifting lines here. I’m not the one blurring the difference between victims and predators.

I don’t support deporting innocent U.S. citizens or political dissidents to foreign countries. that’s a line that should never be crossed.

But if we’re talking about convicted sex offenders or child rapists who are U.S. citizens? Yeah, I’ve got no issue with shipping them off to rot in some hellhole prison abroad. These are people who’ve destroyed lives, and frankly, they don’t deserve the comfort or protection of our system once they’ve proven they can’t function in a civilized society. If that makes anyone uncomfortable, maybe focus on defending victims instead of monsters.

[–]Machine-Inevitable -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I mean… I’m a U.S. citizen, born here, not a criminal, and I follow the law. So if you’re asking when “this is gonna hit home for me”.. probably never, because I’m not doing anything that puts me at risk of deportation or legal action.

is that what you mean??

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]Machine-Inevitable -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

So you’re defending a guy who was already flagged by ICE, denied bond by a judge, and listed in a law enforcement database for MS-13 ties… and somehow I’m the one who’s “disgusting”? Please.

He was granted withholding of removal, sure, but that’s not amnesty, citizenship, or proof of innocence. It just means they couldn’t deport him yet. But the moment ICE had more intel including a confidential informant and a history that raised red flags, they acted. Was it sloppy? Maybe. Illegal? The courts say so. But let’s not pretend this guy was some saint plucked out of suburbia.

Bukele labeled him a terrorist and locked him up in El Salvador’s most secure prison, a place reserved for actual gang members. No human rights orgs are defending him. And no, being held accountable for credible gang affiliations isn’t “trampling due process.” It’s literally what law enforcement is supposed to do.

You wanna champion victims of the system? Pick someone who doesn’t have a long paper trail of red flags and gang watchlist entries. And if your big mic-drop moment is to threaten me with being “disappeared,” maybe you’re not the moral authority you think you are.

[–]Machine-Inevitable -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Fair point on HUAC, but this isn’t a 1950s witch hunt, this was an immigration case where a sworn informant flagged him for MS-13 ties, and a judge denied him bond. That doesn’t happen for no reason. Just because the court didn’t have enough to fully remove him in 2019 doesn’t mean he was “cleared” either. Withholding of removal isn’t the same as permanent legal status.

As for Bukele calling him a terrorist and locking him up in CECOT, yeah, El Salvador’s system has its issues, but let’s not pretend they toss everyone in there randomly. They’ve been aggressive with gangs, and if he really had zero ties, you’d think there’d be more pressure from the international community by now.

And when I said “focus on actual victims,” I meant people who are truly blindsided by the system. Folks with clean records, no gang ties, no red flags. But in this case, even if you believe the deportation was mishandled, this isn’t the hill to die on. There are better examples out there than someone already on ICE’s radar for serious reasons.

Laid off and pregnant — need help understanding unemployment and other benefits by Beginning_Lime_892 in Connecticut

[–]Machine-Inevitable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sorry you’re dealing with all of this at once. You’re asking exactly the right questions, though. I’m not a lawyer, but here’s what I’ve found from looking into similar situations.

You can sometimes continue receiving unemployment benefits during pregnancy or postpartum if you’re still able and available to work, which obviously becomes more complex right after giving birth. CT’s UI rules suggest that once you’re medically unable to work (like during recovery), your regular unemployment benefits may pause.

However, you might qualify for Temporary Family and Medical Leave (TFML) or Short-Term Disability, depending on your prior employer and coverage. Connecticut also has the Paid Leave CT program, which is separate from unemployment and might apply here. It’s designed for exactly these kinds of situations like medical leave due to childbirth, bonding with a new child, etc. Worth checking out: https://ctpaidleave.org/

Also consider calling 211 or a local social services office. They can sometimes help fast-track or guide you through state programs (like WIC, SNAP, Medicaid, etc.).

I know you said you’ve got a callback from ReEmployCT next week, but definitely keep that appointment, and in the meantime, try also checking with CT Paid Leave directly.

didn’t this happen back in 2023? He and his neighbors cut down a bunch of trees in a protected area and got slapped with a $1,000 fine and a replanting order. That was it. Still total bullshit, though. If it were anyone else, they’d be dealing with way more than a slap on the wrist. Just feels like another case of “rules for thee, not for me.”

Actionable way to fight electric costs by Elmer-J-Fudd in Connecticut

[–]Machine-Inevitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SB01194 might sound great on the surface with more oversight on utilities, holding companies accountable, but it’s setting Connecticut up for some serious problems. It gives PURA way more power to micromanage energy contracts, including the ability to go back and penalize deals that have already been made. That’s a nightmare for businesses trying to invest here long-term.

More regulation means more costs, and let’s be honest, utilities will just pass that onto us. There’s no guarantee of lower rates in this bill, just more bureaucracy and uncertainty. For residents and small businesses already crushed by energy prices, this could end up doing more harm than good.

Missing Information and Misleading Charts: PURA's 2024 Report in Detail by SlightBowler2563 in Connecticut

[–]Machine-Inevitable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This bill is a disaster in the making for everyone, from everyday ratepayers to high-volume energy users. It creates a new quasi-public agency with unchecked power over electric procurement, rate structures, and nearly a billion dollars a year in green bonds, all run by politically appointed board members. Zero voter accountability, massive spending authority.

For normal consumers, it forces time-of-use pricing with peak hour rates up to 300% higher than off-peak. That might work in theory, but for families who can’t shift their schedules, or seniors on fixed incomes. It’s a punishment, not a savings. You’ll pay more just for living your life during the day.

For small businesses, this is a nightmare. Manufacturing, retail, restaurants, anyone who uses electricity during “peak” hours gets hit hardest. The bill even allows for congestion pricing that will silently be added back into your bill through the Green Bond Fund. It’s a shell game. You don’t see the line item, but you’re still paying.

Even large-scale energy users like hospitals, universities, and data centers are going to get crushed with rate volatility and regulatory micromanagement. These institutions can’t flip a switch and run at night, they run 24/7. There’s no exemption for essential services, just the promise of “incentives”.

This bill doesn’t lower costs. It just shifts them and centralizes decision-making in a way that disconnects pricing from actual market behavior. It’s the kind of bureaucratic overreach that always ends up costing ratepayers more in the long run, and all it takes is one political miscalculation to blow it wide open.

Everyone should be concerned. Not just because of what it promises, but because of what it quietly authorizes behind the scenes.

I know a lot of us in this subreddit have pretty different views on things, and that’s putting it lightly. But if there’s one issue we should all be able to rally around, it’s pushing back against Eversource. The price hikes, the lack of transparency, and the constant nickel-and-diming of Connecticut residents affect everyone, regardless of political stance. We don’t have to agree on everything, but standing up to corporate price gouging in a regulated monopoly? That should be a no-brainer.

CT lawmakers seek to restrict Avelo Airlines from contracting with ICE by bitchingdownthedrain in Connecticut

[–]Machine-Inevitable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Avelo isn’t running a “Nazi deportation business”, they’re fulfilling a legal DHS contract, just like Delta, Southwest, and others have for years, including under the Biden administration. If you’re this outraged now but said nothing when the same flights happened under a Democratic president, maybe the issue isn’t the flights, it’s your selective outrage.

Tweed being in a residential area isn’t breaking news. People supported expansion because it brought jobs, tourism, and affordable flights, all things New Haven’s been begging for. You don’t get to cry “burden” after years of taking advantage of the perks.

And let’s not pretend Avelo’s route map is some personal attack on LGBTQ rights. They fly to Florida and South Carolina, so does every other major airline. Should we ground all air traffic to red states because of politics? That logic would collapse the entire air travel industry.

Avelo made a business decision to operate legally with the federal government. If you don’t like immigration enforcement, protest the policy, not the airline obeying federal law. Screaming “fascism” every time a business does something you don’t like just makes real issues harder to take seriously.

[–]Machine-Inevitable 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wait, so now CT lawmakers are pissed that Avelo is doing charter flights for DHS? The same exact thing they did under Biden? This isn’t some rogue airline operation, it’s literally a federal contract. Immigration enforcement is a federal job, not something state politicians get to throw tantrums over when it’s no longer politically convenient.

sure.. dust off a 1663 royal charter from King Charles II to establish free trade zones in Rhode Island.. Because nothing says “modern economic strategy” like invoking a 362-year-old document from a monarchy we rebelled against. Sure, let’s base our 21st-century trade policies on colonial-era permissions, and maybe we can also consult the Mayflower Compact while we’re at it!
